    Alright, i just downloaded Audacity.

What i did was open the mp3 file of the song (in Audacity), and i figured i'd just sing along with it. Turns out the mp3 is way too loud, and my voice recording is way too quiet...

Another thing i probably should add is i can't sing too loud... Neighbors and thin walls and such...

Turn down the Output volume and turn up the Input volume (indicated by a microphone icon) to balance it out. If you want to get rid of the songs, vocals, go to Effects > Vocal Remover for Center-Panned Vocals.

Vocal remover doesn't always work very well though. I've had it happen where it butchered everything else in the song to do it, or (but I think it was a poor mp3) removed all sound. But regardless, give it a shot and if you don't like what it does to the song, then by all means Ctrl+Z (or Undo, as it were).

I already did that. I turned down output as far as it could go without completely turning it off. My input was set to maximum.

Here's a screenshot of what it looks like:

I can't hear my own voice at all.

    Vocal remover failed.

The advice given on this page has helped me out a lot. When you get to using Equalization, I set mine so it looks like a "U" rather than just the square looking pattern. I've noticed that works a lot better. Another thing you could try is playing around with the Amplify effect. It helps to quiet down the music a lot, but be wary of using it to increase the volume of your singing, as that makes it easier for clipping to occur.

Let's all agree to move away from 'T-rex arms' as the reference for tiny arms and move to the more appropriate 'Carnotaurus Arms'.

Ok I found a song. I for one won't record with the song playing. I can't balance it well with my voice. Other than that, I'm using my laptop's built-in mic.

if you are going to add me on xbox live or the nintendo network, be sure to tell me in my profile.
