The season is only 13 epsidoes since all new seasons of ANY show start that long. Once a season ends, the network either leaves it or orders 13 more. If those are succesful, the season will be longer.
A great example would be the new Futurama seasons. Season 6A finished airing last year, and season6B finished airing this year-both 13 episodes long, both realeased in separte dvds.
It's just a basic network thing~
A movie for FIM is likely to come eventully though, as the old MLP gens had a fair amount of dvd movies.

A movie would be great, but I really don't think it will happen. At least we have the 2 parters.

AkyrumAcklejappI think a movie would be nice, but it probably wouldn't be great. It would probably just be a rejected idea for season 3 pilot or something that they extended by 20 mins and called it a movie.
