Community Post #159 Yep! I'm working on this still! This is as far as I am right now. I've had other things to do, I'm afraid but I will return to working on it later on. For now, enjoy the amazing joy of SELECTING CARDS ACTION! Yeah, some people might see this and smell something fishy. I mean, there's cards in this game, apparently. And you can guess that they're pretty important if I made that first. So, I think it's time to come clean on what's inspired this spirited second go at all this: NO! NOT YOU! I KILLED YOU! YOU'RE DEAD! YOU'RE DEAAAD! I can't get away from not talking about this stupid, idiotic and infuriating game. Kingdom Hearts Re:Chain of Memories is a game with an OK story which tries to have some vicious moments marred heavily by a staggeringly misguided combat system that ties all actions into a card game system where you throw cards at your opponent to perform actions like swinging your sword, casting spells or summoning other characters to help. Playing cards at different times would be necessary to take advantage of the priority trumping system of the game where higher numbered cards cancel out lower ones. You can also group cards together in order to perform special attacks. It was annoying, kinda dull as the system was seriously shallow due to the fact that everything happens while you still need to move around a 3d space to ensure you're not killed, so devolves into figuring out the best method of dumping a deck on your opponent without much thought, for the most part. Though, there's bits I like. The idea of a card game where you're deck is able to create powerful combinations from simple elements and a system of priority where you're able to parry then counter an opponent's attack, no matter what it is, is pretty neat. If it wasn't happening while simplistic keyblade fights were happening at the same time, demanding increasing amounts of multitasking that just gets frustrating more than fun. I'm amazed I ever finished this thing... So, my plan is to fix it. I'm going to take this stupid, botched concept and make it properly. I'm going to do this thing some justice. Maybe as some form of therapy or attempt at penance. Maybe I'll stop thinking about this damn game if I fix it. Or maybe I'm just nuts. The idea here is simple: We take some form of the Re:Chain card system and put it in an environment it would actually be comfortable in. Out with the bizarre action system and in with a kind of turn based system instead. Some early concept art courtesy of Neoshadow Zac. Thanks, man! Looking pretty neat already. You play as the controller for a Spam-Bot busting robot. Your robot is made up of a frame with places for equipment to go. You have a Power Core, Headgear, a Chest Plate and two Weapons. These are the main place to alter your robot as each piece of equipment will have various abilities that can be activated for an effect. Usually attacking but some equipment pieces might be able to effect others. For example, your robot's power core might be able to cause your weapons to do more damage or help your armour resist damage more effectively for that turn. You also have a deck of cards, as shown above in my glorious demonstration up there. That bit is showing off our equivalent of the deck from Re:Chain. The difference here is that you spend 'Energy' cards from your hand in order to power your abilities. So, firing your weapon or activating an ability requires a number of 'Energy' cards to pull off. Using costly abilities too often, drains your deck and you have to reload your deck for a turn to get them back. They sound familiar to what? Rubbish! Ours are completely different because... Umm...Ponies. Robot ponies. Here's the thing though: turn actions are simultaneous. You load your cards into your robot then you hit the go button. You and your opponent then fire at the same time. So, no first player advantage thing to think about. Though, it still raises an interesting issue which we can still yet work into a mechanic. Priority is something we're working into this too. All 'Energy' cards have a little number on them ranging from 0 to 9. 9 generally beats everything but 0 is our trump card, but can be trumped by anything else. When you load a card into a piece of equipment's ability, that ability gains a priority value from the cards loaded into it. So, if I load a 5 Energy card into my gun to fire it, firing my gun has a priority of 5. With me? OK. Priority comes into play when you end your set-up step. Once both players are ready with their card placements, each action is then played out with the order dictated by the priority of the ability. So, I fire my gun with a priority of 5 but my opponent fires theirs with a priority of 8. They're shot lands first because of a higher priority, then I fire. This gets a little more complex as you think about the timing of abilities. Anything you want to guarantee comes first gets those all important higher cards while later abilities get the lower ones. Ideally, you'd want to throw all your highest grade cards at your abilities to ensure they get in ahead of the opponent but that's something rather finite as you burn through your deck to stay ahead of the game. Admit it, you'd want to give this thing a hug after it shoots the head off something. Though, we're also working on some Keywords to ensure low cards aren't useless. Some abilities will allow more than one card or require cards over or even under a certain limit in order to activate. While you might be losing steam with this hand, you can always attempt to use your remaining deck to gain the upper hand. It's a roundabout way of looking at the rules but I hope that makes sense. More on that when we've got it! - Site News I don't know if you've noticed the new role for the home page. Originally, you were supposed land on that page, like the old Everypony site but like a dumb-dumb, I didn't set it up right. Now, we're making something useful of it. Anything on the site deemed worth sticking on a little pedestal and bringing attention to, we'll stick up on there. Sadly, the Blog section is exempt from this as there's no functionality for it. But forums are all fair game. So, find some interesting bit of news or just throw a neat idea and you might make the Everypony front page! I also should announce the winner of the Everypony Deck the Halls competition. The games and the honour of having their theme included in the roster of themes on this site goes to... Pause for dramatic effect... Jewel of Rarity with Ridley Wolf in such a close second, I think we might apply the colour scheme anyway in it's own theme. It actually looks pretty neat, especially as a Celestia theme. Congratulations. Contact me for your games! JoR's theme on the other hand is already up. It was submitted to us in a Xenforo Theme format and honestly looked pretty swanky so it's available to use right now. We might fiddle with it to 'pony' it up a little more but as a base, it's pretty slick looking. Well done! Thank you to everyone that entered! I'll have to think of another competition to try and run sometime. - Recommended Reading - I could just link you to the home page but I think we'll keep this around for what the homepage misses, shall we? Right, anyone got a good name for a fictional element that explodes? Wow, this one reminds me of when I took my Religious Education exams back in secondary school. It was a question on the representation of religion in the media and I mentioned and talked about Father Ted in it for a little bit. Somehow managed an F overall. Never understood that one. Japan has pro-wrestling? This is a thing? Well, why not? I do wonder if it's kinda like real life Anime but I'm sure it's still fun. If you're a fan, how about MLP characters being compared to Japanese wrestlers? I suppose it's a good way of getting a foothold on who to root for. Where does Poisonous Nightmare get these stories?! First, Wisconsin is fining the parents of bullies if they don't change their ways. Honestly wish that was a thing in my school growing up. I might have earned my school enough for a new computer lab or something. California is apparently now making child vaccinations mandatory, overriding parent's right to refuse because of beliefs or what have you. I'm on the side of California for this one, personally. Schools are full of head lice and cold germs, we don't need that one kid that has the parents petrified of magic autism introducing typhoid. Again, my opinion. Not representative of the staff and Everypony.com, blah, blah. You know, I never get anyone thinking of using here to get people to sign up for RPs. Here, this is what's around at the moment. We have a sci-fi one! Galactica! Your mission is to transport an ancient relic aboard a high tech ship. Seems like a neat Sci-Fi slice of life thing. Maya's Bar is still a thing. A casual RP set within an Equestrian bar somewhere. A casual RP for those in the mood. *Dead As*, a supernatual RP about death and those tasked with ensuring the passed on don't cause any more harm by coming back within a metal suit. Because zombies would be silly. It's just started too. Yeah, this ones mine but it still stands to reason that you guys don't ever poke me about RPs happening on the site when you should do. I think that's it for this week. See you guys around!
Wait, what? I never finished making a theme. I certainly never submitted one. Also, your game needs more explosions.
If you really want to talk about anime.... I do have a promotion for you... but that'll have to wait. But here's a thing that is something else.
While we're at it, is there any possibility we can see all the entries as a jpeg or picture? I'm really curious on Ridley's final theme and Stuffy's
I'm more of a spectator towards card games. Except for Go Fish My friends and I can really start laughing and yelling and cussing like sailors once we've played about 3 games. Does that consider me to be that childish and innocent?
Ridley hasn't 'won'. Jewel of Rarity did, I just liked the WIP image enough to try making that into something too. If Ridley has a more complete version then wonderful but I liked the colour scheme, so figured it might make a nice theme.
I apologize if I sounded presumptious. I just wanted to bring it to your attention that I was confused.
