Hey guys! It's time for a Dilly Star Thread!

My friend is doing a paper for her Cultural Anthropology class and she's doing it on Bronies! She has a short survey with four questions that she needs filled out, and if you could take the time to answer these questions, the two of us would very much appreciate it.

    These are the questions:

    1) Can you think of any normal 'brony behaviors'? How do bronies generally behave in a group?

    2) Are there any unique or defining ways that bronies think they behave?

    3) In your opinion, what are the significant brony values, attitudes and beliefs?

    4) What do you think is important or noteworthy about brony material culture (AKA any toys, clothes, music, ect. that exist in the brony culture).

Remember that there are no wrong answers. :derpe:

1): Bronies tend to act (From my experience) just like any other person in a conversation, just with ponies included

2): From my exprience, most Bronies think they behave differently in how they deal with people trying to get them mad or other such things, but while their resistance for everyday things goes up, anything that insults ponies (like the Derppocolypse for example) they snap more easily

3): This one should be obvious: Love, Tolerence, Acceptance, Friendship, etc.

4):Brony music, art, and animation are probably the best things I've seen/heard out of this fandom outside the emotional bonds and other stuff.

    1) Well, they tend to have less fights, in my opinion, and if a hater tries to bully them, they stick together and tolerate the hater

    2) Not that I can think of

    3) Easy. I just like to think of the qualities like the Element of Harmony, minus magic of course.

    4) Well, my first answer would be the show of course, and second.... Hm... Probably all those comics on DeviantART. They never cease to make me smile, just like Snow's GIFs

Bronies aren't all that much different from any other groups to be honest, because when it comes down to it entirely we're all just people who share a common interest. The same comparison can be seen with just about any other interest, the most common one that still might be considered a little weird being video games. They hang out and talk about normal stuff just like everybody else, the only difference being that they might often talk about their interest in conversation.
The same could be said for bronies and every other fan groupings.

Kind of. At first in general, Bronies will tend to think they're morally better than a majority of fandoms on the internet due to the base that the show is created on: Friendship.
However, we all go through the phase where we essentially lose our brony innocence and realize this isn't the truth at all; we're just like any other fandom and should not only be treated like it, we should treat others exactly the same.

As you may have discerned from my previous answers: There are none. We're just people who like a show about ponies.

Something noteworthy? I think it'd interesting to note the fandom in itself exists to be honest. It was initially started ironically as a way to take a stab at certain criticisms and it turned into a legitimate fan following. It kind of shows you how unexpected people can actually be and how independent they be as well; they don't care what others think of them.

    Hope some of this helps.

I'd be glad to assist with your friend's paper in any way I can. Hopefully my answers will suffice.

    1. I do not know any other Bronies in person, however I would assume one (if they followed the morals of the show) would be extremely... normal. Perhaps a bit more agreeable, understanding, or kind. I can't say how Bronies behave in groups, I simply never have experienced it.

    2. Well, I cannot speak for myself as my behavior has unfortunately remained unchanged by MLP:FiM. (But I'm working on it.) I would assume most Bronies would like to think they exhibit the qualities espoused in the show itself. Namely loyalty, kindness, happiness, generosity, and honesty. But because I do not exhibit said behaviors, you should probably just ignore this answer.

    3. As far as values, I would like to think a true Brony should follow the moral compass of the show. While not quite perfect, it is better than most of what is spewed out by the media, generally speaking. More specifically, I believe they should simply show love. The whole "tolerance" thing I do not entirely agree with, but that is a different debate.

    4. Regarding Brony material culture, I am blown away by the sheer volume and quality of the fanart and music. The shirts are pretty cool as well, but I haven't gotten one yet, so what do I know? However, I am torn about buying the actual toys themselves. Don't get me wrong, I do own a McDonald's Pinkie Pie and I love it to death, but something about collecting the figures seems... deviant. But I contradict myself. Perhaps I'm just too worried about how Bronies are seen by the world.

I do hope I didn't overdo my answers, and that they will contribute to your efforts.

    Sincerely,
    LonelyBrony

    In that order.

    These are my answeres:

    1) Like any other random person. You cant stick a certain trait onto them.

    2) Again, they think and behave however they want to. And totally different from one another. Just like any other large group of people.

    3) The stated ones are that you should love one another and treat people how you want to be treated. However, alot of bronies dont follow that.

    4) The show is good. The brony fanbase is just a huge amount of people like any other fanbase or culture.

    1) Can you think of any normal 'brony behaviors'? How do bronies generally behave in a group?
Well, I'm part of a group of almost ten Wiltshire bronies now, and from what I tell, we don't act much differently together.

    2) Are there any unique or defining ways that bronies think they behave?
I know a lot of people who say they try and Love and Tolerate as much as they can- I try to love and tolerate where I can too. From what I see on the internet though, some people around the world are beginning to not care a lot about Love and Tolerence, though...

    3) In your opinion, what are the significant brony values, attitudes and beliefs?
I think that a lot of bronies try ta be friendly, loving and tolerant, so that I guess. :p

    4) What do you think is important or noteworthy about brony material culture (AKA any toys, clothes, music, ect. that exist in the brony culture).
Erm... I don't know. Music, the show and the community, I guess?

1.) Bronies, in my experience, all behave just like anyone else. We just also happen to enjoy the show My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. One thing I have noticed, at least among the local group here, is we all kind of fit in the nerdy stereotype. We all enjoy science fiction, we all play video games, we enjoy some of the littler known card games and board games (like Arkham Horror or Shadow Hunters, for example), we all watch anime, and we all enjoy tabletop role playing games.

2.) I think bronies tend to like thinking they're more amiable and friendly than other groups. I do think that, at the very least, we're more supportive and much less critical of various fan works (art, music, etc.) as opposed to other fandoms. This is mostly just from what I've seen and experienced though.

3.) The significant values, attitudes and beliefs that bronies have tend to stem from the show we all enjoy watching. The big one you hear about is "love and tolerate." There are also a lot of different ways we support each other and friends, most of which is taken from the show. A few examples of these include being appreciative of gifts you receive rather than nitpicking them, that people with very different views can learn to get along, that family is very important, and don't become so serious about work that you forget your friends. I found this to be an interesting article to read on this topic: http://blogs.laweekly.com/arts/2012/04/bronies_my_little_pony_friends.php

4.) One thing I think is important about brony material culture is just how varied it all is. There are all kinds of genres of fanfiction, musicians make so many different kinds of music, etc. I think when it comes to toys and clothing, these are desired for a lot of different reasons among the fandom. Some, like me, get it to show support of the show. Others, which also fits me, get toys and clothes of a certain pony because they really like that character. I just think it's really cool that there is so much variety of fanmade creations, and that the official creations are purchased for varying reasons as well. It's really cool to see something like a television show bringing together all kinds of different people of differing backgrounds and circumstances.
