(Here we go!) Poppy was mixing chemicals when she got the call. Her wrist watch beeped, and she glared at it almost comically. "A.D.R.I.A.N.," she spoke out loud, talking to the AI unit in in her watch. "What does my most recent alert say?" "It appears that you are being summoned, Poppy," the unit responded. The voice was calm and cool, and slightly lilting, designed to specifically ease any of Poppy's worries. She groaned, and put down her beakers, pulling up her goggles. "Now?" she asked, eyeing her experiment. "Now." A.D.R.I.A.N. responded, a little more insistent this time. Poppy sighed, and slipped off her medical gloves. What a waste. After disposing of the chemicals, she turned on her heel and began to head to the meeting room. @Stuffy McPatch
Once she had entered the meeting room, she would find a tall man facing away from the door, hands crossing politely behind his back. He wore a black suit, with a silver piece near his ear that was undoubtedly a wireless earpiece. If she cared to look closely at his details, she would find a faded lipstick mark on his neck from the previous times that he most likely didn't see before getting ready. It was well-hidden behind his collar. Francis turned his head slightly. "Good evening," he spoke, with a smooth and low voice.
Poppy inwardly groaned. Those corporate types always wanted long, drawn-out meetings. She would not be getting back to her chemicals for a while. "Good evening," she responded politely, looking around the room. "What's going on?" She shrugged out of her lab coat and folded it over her arm neatly, looking at Francis expectantly.
Francis turned around to face, checking his watch. "I'm going to make this quick, as I have other things to attend to," he began with an annoyed sigh. "The director has called upon us to operate a rescue mission. Details were not described for who it is, but all we have as of yet is a location. According to him, this subject is imperative to a certain comprise. Further details will be received eventually, and all the information will be sent to you once this is over. We will meet tomorrow evening at the helicopter pad. Bring items of your own choosing, but preferably helpful ones." He began walking towards her, the taps of his shoes echoed as they hit the floor. He passed her and opened the door, pausing for a moment. "See you then," he said, before exiting. (Hopefully that was okay haha)
(That was perfect.) Poppy drummed her fingers on the desk in front of her, amused but a little frustrated. "I suppose I don't really get a choice in the matter," she thought as she turned around and exited the room. Her footsteps were loud in the empty hallway, and she pulled her hair back into a more convenient ponytail as she reentered the lab. She tapped her wristwatch. "A.D.R.I.A.N," she said, "Let me know if any new information on the mission is sent in." "Yes, Poppy," the AI responded. She leaned against the counter and sighed. "I'd imagine that the reason I'm being called is for medical purposes," she thought absently, turning to the shelves on the wall that contained pills, syringes, bottles of unknown substances, and poisons. She ran her fingers along them lovingly and took off her doctor's pack from a hook on the wall. It was already loaded with the standard elixirs, but she added a few that might serve a longer journey. She added a small surgeons kit, with scalpels, scissors, probes, and the like, and she also tucked her gloves inside. (Would you like me to create some more specific details on the mission?)
(Yes, that would be good. I won't be online for a bit due to my phone not working and I have to do something, so I'll post when I get back.)
(Alright! See you then!) After a while, A.D.R.I.A.N spoke up. "Poppy," it said. "More details on your mission has arrived. Would you like to hear it?" "Hmm? Oh, yes please," she said, focused on her beakers. "The Averlin Ambassador to Utrana has been taken hostage by the Caedis. Utrana and Averlin are on the brink of a war that would completely obliterate the planet. You will be providing the medical help on the trip and your partner will be providing the defense. The small group size comes from the necessity of subtlety; you will want to sneak in, and sneak out." Poppy was still working as the AI talked, and after it finished, it took a moment for the words to catch up with her. She paused suddenly and glanced at her watch in disbelief. "Wait.. What?"
Francis, meanwhile, had exited the building and returned home. Once he opened the door he immediately got to work, packing weapons and helpful necessities into a compact backback, some of which included glasses that could record and become night vision, if needed, knock-out gas, and a few tactical grenades. A beep came from his watch and the details to the mission appeared holographically. His mouth formed a tight line, and he straightened his tie. He had work to do.
(Zoom!) Poppy walked across the roof with a simple pack on her back. She carried her trusty watch, and she wore a grey vest over a dark blue blouse. Her hair was pulled back in its usual style, and her eyes were bright and alert. She crossed the roof towards the landing pad, excited for what was to come.
A helicopter awaited her arrival, the blades rotating slowly, but fast enough to disturb the air. The door slid open, Francis on the other side. He was wearing something similar to the other day, except gray. "I assume you got the new information yesterday?" he spoke, his voice raised slightly, to be heard.
He slammed it shut, the noise of the outside immediately quieting. After a moment of speaking to the pilot, he sat down to face her. "Ah, excellent. I don't think we had time for pleasantries last time. I'm Francis Craw. And you are?" He offered to shake hands.
"I'm Poppy," she responded, shaking his hand with a smile. "Poppy Abernathy. Nice to meet you." She settled back in her seat, her pack on her lap. She gazed out of the window for a second and then turned back to Francis, a question already forming on her lips. "So.. do you know exactly where we'll be dropped off? I mean, a helicopter just landing at the Caedis' headquarters would draw a lot of attention."
"We'll be dropped off on the outskirts of their main HQ, far enough to not be noticed. With our equipment, it should be quick to find the place, assuming everything goes as planned." He checked a technical device, watching various things.
"Gotcha," Poppy said, gazing idly out the window, watching her home disappear from her sight. It was mildly disconcerting, so she turned to look back at Francis. "So, I guess you're the fighter of this duo," she said, crossing her arms over her chest and studying him. "How long have you worked here?"
A slight sneer appeared on his face, but he didn't bother to look up. His legs were crossed politely, and his clothes were pristine and without a wrinkle. "Hm. Around 11 years. I began as a secretary when I was young in search of money. Luckily, they saw something in me," he paused. "And yourself?"
She cocked her head and studied him. The sneer bugged her, but she didn't say anything. "About two years now," she said, shrugging. "They needed someone to study in the lab."
He raised his eyebrows sarcastically. "Hm. Interesting. Though, it is helpful to have someone who knows what they're doing to come along with. Usually it doesn't end well with rookies."
