On the one hand we've never seen Applejack's parents. Not in flashbacks, not at the family get-to0-gethers and apple cider competitions. On the other hand... she has a little sister...
This is a question that I'v also been wondering...I'm almost inclined to ask hasbro if Applejack could see her parents in season three...
It's not like they don't kill parents off in kid's cartoons all the time. But seriously, if they're dead is Applebloom adopted?
Rarity's parents didn't show up for a while because they're holiday makers and such like. Twilight's parents probably carried on with their lives after she went to study with the princess. Rainbow Dash's parents probably live in Cloudsdale or, like Scootaloo's, have gone I mean if they were still there they surely would have gone to visit their daughter when she was in hospital. Fluttershy's parents probably live normal lives elsewhere. Pinkie Pie's parents seemed pretty old when she was a fillly so they're possibly dead (which I doubt), still on the rock farm, or in a retirement home. In the case of AJ, because she lives with her family, I presume her parents are in a similar situation to Rarity's. They're probably famous rodeo ponies or something and Granny Smith's kind of been taking care of them for a while. That's just what I think :/
Maybe Applejack's parents are secret agents or former secret agents under the Witness Protection Act. It's possible.
I'm sure we'll get an episode featuring an appearance of Applejack's parents. Perhaps they've taken the lifestyle her Aunt and Uncle have.
actually, I remember that Laurent Faust said something about this: she said that originally, she meant for her parents to be dead, but rest of mlp:fim staff disagreed with her and said it was bad idea, and "officially", they are thought as traveling salesponies. So, they are still alive, and that explains Apple Bloom, but she said that for now, there's no plans to give them air time (this was before season 3 was announced)
I do remember that on Faust's deviantart page. But now that she has no executive control over the series, the situation of Applejack's parents is up in the air I would imagine. Eh... No, don't see it. It'd be kinda odd to find Unicorns in a lineage consisting of an entire close-knit family of Earth Ponies.
My only Solution to the Absents of Applejack's parents is that after birth of Applebloom, the Parents decided to go out traveling for awhile and never return and later found out what happen to her folks and keep it family secret to them selves and not letting Applebloom know to the truth about her parents and probably lied to her to keep her mind off her parents.
The show where the big sister is a stupid stuck up little B*tch and the little brother just wants to have fun?
