It's still internet censorship, regardless. I tire of having a school filter, but a government filter? Are you pulling my hoof? Seriously. I'd create a huge proxy server if I had the money. I frequent some UK sites to see the news there and stuff like that... This is ridiculous.
SOPA Also means copyright work - Not just country block access. If they passed the full bill as it is it means that if you uploaded a pony video for example - not matter how long, you could be fined thousands or even jail - an yes I am being serious! I've read parts of what the bill entails
Oh you can bet there is trickery, it's a 78 (~) page bill, I'm sure that entertainment companies would find some way around any restrictions. Heck, they're doing it right now.
^ This ^ And Rain Dash, Sorry about the confusion, I realize Google, YouTube, Wiki, and the majority of the internet is on our side, I was refering to the entertainment industry as in Hollywood, News corperations, Etc.
This video pretty much sums up Congress.
It's mainly the guys from Hollywood and Apple that are supporting the bill. He's hoping that the Democrats/Republicans aren't idiots. Which all politicians are. I swear to god, if Obama doesn't Veto this bill, he's even more dead to me than he is now.
Trickery indeed. I think it's time we rename the bill for what it really is, the DIE (Destroy International Economy) act.
SOPA: Son of the Patriot Act. Really though, its another dark congressional cloud. All we can do is hope the storm clears.
NEWS! Since its introduction, the number of opponents to the bill have been increasing. The bill is currently scheduled for markup by the House Judiciary Committee on December 15. An aid to Rep. Lamar Smith has stated that "He is open to changes but only legitimate changes. Some sites are totally capable of filtering illegal content, but they won’t and are instead profiting from the traffic of illegal content.” What does this mean, hmm?
Well, the internet was fun while it lasted, huh? Seriously though, I just hope they do the right thing and dismiss the whole thing due to it being incredibly stupid unconstitutional! I'm 98% sure Congress never actually said that. I hear even if he does veto it, there's a way for it to be passed anyway. Oh, America. Sometimes, well, okay, all the time, I worry about you.
The good news is, is that SOPA will probably not pass this year, (according the the Mozilla emails I subscribed to, which provide weekly information on SOPA). Today was the date for the "markup" of the bill, which is a time for legislators to edit the bill to make it less harmful. So we are safe..for now.
