I'm pretty sure that the moderators/admins can change your vote to the correct one you wanted. Anyways I voted for #2, but there would need some massive amount of tweaking for that system to be balanced.
*Shudders* Please, for the love of Celestia, Luna, or whichever pony you choose to or choose not to worship, please never put my name and that word in the same sentence again! -_-; But yes, I still stick to my view; Remove it completely!
Hmm I am stuck without a computer for next couple days. Grey would you mind putting my vote as remove since I can't vote from phone? If it's not to much of a hassle. I agree with ePONY for the most part and if we have pony's feeling unimportant because of a lack of gems then I believe it is causing more harm then good Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I voted for the complete removal of such a system. I did initially suggest an alternative, fairer method of revamp, but ultimately I decided the very idea of the reputation system was flawed. Not wrong, just faced with too many problems. If someone would like to highlight a useful purpose of the system i.e. not 'people like having rep', I implore them to speak up.
What annoys me is when people actually ask other people to rep them, such as I have seen in the forum games section a lot. People actually have to beg, plead for another member to click rep. I find it sad that people should feel they have to find rep this way, or should even be overly bothered about such things as getting images of gems over their avatars. I think that reasons should have to be given by the rep-er, and valid reasons at that, otherwise it won't count for nought. Also, when you look at someponies reputation page, there's always an N/A under the date. I have never seen this area actually used though, so what on earth is this for?
I liked the rep system, it just after reading ePONY's post I voted to have it removed. Forgive the dumb comparison, but people asking for rep feels almost like boosting in a online game. Sure you get the reward/prize, but nothing was done to earn it. Making it a worthless achievement. So as much as I like the idea, it is to far flawed to be used. So I hope it is removed entirely. -- Sent from my Palm Pre using Forums
I've been doing a little thinking on the matter. At first I saw flaws, and wanted too take intimidate action. But, after a few words with a couple of friends, And reflecting back on some past events, I began to consider other views. And came to a series of questions. So. Some of the rep that has been received by users is "Worthless"; It was given for reasons that cannot be considered As honorable as the post supposedly doesn't deserve such. Perhaps. Has ALL rep been given for such reasons? Of course not! Are users still thrilled by receiving gems? Many are. Shall we deprive each and every single one of them of it because Some of it can be considered "null and void"? Ask yourself that. There are no rules outlined for giving rep, Such things are left to members of this community to decide. And not for the community's driving forces to come to a consensus On what are reasons for giving rep. That's up to each person to decide what they want or do not want to give rep for. The rep system, It may be flawed. Does that mean it should be removed? Would an analogy help? Say you injure your arm, causing permanent scarring. Do you chop the thing off and get rid of it all together? The rep system, You may not like how it works. Is it explicitly bothering you? Will its removal have a distinct beneficial effect for the community? Will those benefits justify the loss some users may experience? (Namely those who didn't mind the system.) The rep system, It's not perfect. Do the imperfections cause users hurt? These are questions I began to ponder, Partially due to reading over the thread a second time, Partially due to some chats I had with friends. Where do we stand?
I guess I should have been clearer. Not all rep given is worthless. Some of the rep I have, I don't feel I should have. I only received because of a joke I made in a forum game. Now looking at that statement I feel bad. If I se it as worthless how would the person who gave it to me feel? Sure there are no set rules. So I guess rep giving is decided by the giver. But the people that ask for rep. Are really just boosting. They didn't earn it. It was handed to them like it's just any old thing. So I guess a small group of people shouldn't be decide what the entire sites rep system is. -- Sent from my Palm Pre using Forums
I still like the idea of a rep system, but it needs to take longer to get gems. In addition to making it harder to get gems, there should be a way to remove rep that you should not have received.
But as greyOne said, who are we to decide what rep is good and what is worthless. One way to fix the system is to cap the rep points given by members. Every member should be able to give a max of 3 points. When they give rep, they should be able to choose 1,2, or 3 points. That would make them harder to get. -- Sent from my Palm Pre using Forums
After much consideration, I have... very little to say. Well, maybe a little bit to say: Basically, this system is messed up, and it's already been stated several times above me that it is. But it's the details as to why it's bad that's important and I think ePONY said it best, it causes inequality in an environment where everyone is supposed to be equal. Last I checked, we were a society of people willing to be friendly to each other and to put aside differences whether it's about sexual orientation, gender, race, religion, of anything that people feel they can really judge upon to make the greatest community on the internet. When we entered here, we were given a fresh start from whatever we were viewed as on the internet before, I was a troll, but no one on here judges me for that now, I'm a brony and I believe in Love and Tolerance, we we all should. This rep system not only goes against what our site motto is, but it goes against the brony motto in general, it's hard to be loving and tolerant when there's people boosting each other with a system that's viewed as the main standing point when it comes judgment. That bothers me thinking that there may be some lesser gemed bronies thinking they're nothing in comparison to people like me and a few others who have obtained a few more pixels below their username, self consciousness should never be something this forum causes. If possible, I'd like to get my rep switched off as soon as possible, I'm getting tired of looking at it. As my final remark, I'll quote Ronald Reagan.
I vote... take it down. All Reputation is to me is a, "Who's the popular guys." This can cause a seperation, which is seen in most schools. Back in my old school, I was among the top 10 most popular people, and I hated how the "lower class" stereotyped my among the other preps and bullies. Once I said, "screw it to reputation." I began making friends from both ends of the spectrum. This in turn only made me loved by everyone just because I was tolerable and didn't care. OK, end of the story, and moral.... Rep is not needed at all. On another note... I accidently clicked the first one.... i'm still feeling light-headed, and Berry would know why. But I want me vote to the 4th. Hooray for the collapse of Civilization! Down with Democracy! or something like that.
Should the few who don't like it have it removed from the ones that like it? I feel the same way. Some people here need more gems then they have. Some people I think should have less. For lack of better example, I'll use me. I'm proud of the fact I have a red gem. I just don't think I deserve it. I recall I got because DRD repped me for a TwiDash picture. So without that I'd still be on purple gems. I'll admit when I first joined all I cared about was getting rep. So I tried to emulate the people with the most rep. When that didn't work. I'd rep people and leave my name so they would rep me back.I only started getting repped by people when I started being me. When I no longer tried to be zephyr, yeti, Lupr or ePONY. Now enough about me and more about the system. GreyOne brings up a good point. Why should we remove it only because I small groups doesn't like it. I think we should wipe all the rep away and start over with everyone being able to give 1-3 points of rep total. -- Sent from my Palm Pre using Forums
There 'should' be an option to turn it off it in the edit profile section. Sent from my GT-I9000 using Tapatalk
