My thoughts are that it probably will pass... BUT, if we oppose the bill enough, and get enough important people on our side, the bill will be less threatening.
This Bill is a Joke, It's a Waste of time for even discussing this is Congress, It's a Globe-Economic Disaster, if passed, and We have more important stuff to deal with then worrying about Hollywood's issues. So all this endless arguments that Congress dishes out, How about we just drop the bill and move on to like Help getting some people get jobs? You hear me, Mr. President?
Exactly! And people wonder why the US economy is so bad... UGH, the government needs to set some MEANINGFUL priorities.
This Country is run by idiots and i find it funny that we get more Rightful ideas from the People then the Congressmen. I don't want to say names who really destroyed this country, cause I might Hurt someponie's Political Views but i think that majority of this country knows who Reeeeally did it. Our Current one is okay, that is all i say to him. If Pres. Obama Passes this Bill, I'll loose all respect for him and quote this. I feel the same way. Obama has been ok for me. And he gained more of my respect for FINALLY pulling the troops out of the Iraq. But if this bill passes, all my respect goes flying out the window.
I found this while browsing through <insert well known torrent website here>
Update: Avaaz, a popular site with nearly 10.5 million users, dedicated to fixing the problems of the world, has received over 1 million signers in a worldwide petition on SOPA. Obama responded, and allowed Avaaz to have a 1 hour meeting with White House officials to deliver their petition, and stand on SOPA. Avaaz has been privately contacted by Obama, and has stated that he is likely to oppose the bill in its current form. While this doesn't mean it is the end of SOPA, it has a poor chance of passing under its current terms, and must be revised to be made less impacting. More information and updates: http://www.avaaz.org/en/save_the_internet/
If Obama vetoes, it stands no chance of coming back from Congress. They may be under-educated about the internet, but even they know it's really that bad from the mountain of opposition--especially with a country naturally lazy when it comes to voting for anything.
If Obama vetoes, the bill will go back to Congress for a 2/3 vote. If it wins in favor in this case, it will pass regardless of the President's decision. Then it would be up to the Judicial Branch to decide whether or not its constitutional or not (which it isn't!). So in its current form, there is no way it will pass.
Actually, it is just delayed until after the holidays. But yes, with Obama at our side, it will not pass. The balrog is SOPA and hopefully Gandalf will be Obama when he veto the bill "Go back to the shadow, I am the servant of the american people, wielder of the power of veto. Your dark bribes will note avail you, shield of veto! YOU SHALL NOT PASS!"
This video is also quite informative. Apparently if this passes in its current form, the US can literally send TROOPS to foreign countries that violate OUR copyright laws. That's bull! Watch this video, the reality of this bill made my jaw drop. And what's worse is that, the companies trying to sue us for copyright, ARE THE ONES THAT CAUSED IT IN THE FIRST PLACE! Lol, no. This guy "JeepersMedia" is very popular on YouTube for making funny reviews on stupid products. He's well known. Talking ecstatically is usually accompanied by funny facial expressions. :derpe:
What this seems like is that these corporations "allow" millions of people to download these songs, just to the sue them... Cnet Download even hosts a program that lets you remove DRM from media files. DRM is "Digital Rights Management", and its the technology that prevents you from copying protected files. It basically "removes" the copyright, allowing you to make copies. They want you to do this so you can be sued.
