As for using them in your post, you don't even need to know the codes. If you want, you can change the basic editor to the enhanced editor. By default when you register, you are provided with the basic text box to reply with. However, you can change that.

To do so, go to Settings > General Settings.

Then scroll down to where it says Miscellaneous Options. You will see the Editor preferences. Change it to Enhanced Interface - Full WYSIWYG Editing.

Now you should have the smiley button. When clicked, it'll allow you to insert a smiley easily. No code knowledge required! I hope that helps! ^_^

 

Alternatively if you click 'go advanced' by the post box then hover your mouse over the smilies presented on the right of the next page, it'll display their codes.
