They did a great job portraying their characters though. Basically it fit their personalities, just more extreme forms haha.
I have to wonder if there are a few "in-universe" "out-of-character" moments, especially with Pinkie Pie ("pegasuseses").
Well she was playing a spoiled princess. Rarity, while occasionally somewhat greedy (if only when it comes to jewels and, briefly, popularity in Canterlot), doesn't seem "spoiled" to me. But maybe that's just me...
Yea I wouldn't call Rarity "spoiled" either. While she does have the rich lifestyle, she isn't snobbish like those in Canterlot. She cares for her friends, and in the end stands by them, even if it means her image may be tarnished. It sometimes takes time for her to realize this, as she likes living "in the moment" per se, but she always sticks by her friends.
Here's a video that shows a decent theory on the lack of Discord, Celestia, and Luna issue.
Thanks for sharing this. I think he did a good job of pulling things together and made some very good points.
And it actually makes good sense. It was a play to show that fighting and hatred solves no problems. So bringing in Discord's evil would contradict the feeling of the play. Of course its just a theory, but a decent one for now.
I didn't really care for this episode. This episode wasn't bad, but it could have been better. Also, the whole window thing just bugged me. Now about Discord. I think he was created because there needed to be a counter balance to harmony. The increase in harmony and the decrease in disharmony caused a creature to be formed that would equal the harmony. Since Good and Evil fight a constant battle with each other. I would like to know more about the Royal sisters.
You know, I never quite got fans were confused about the timeline of the series. Three tirbes found it and formed Equestria, Discord and was a big mean jerk, the two goddess-queens(Sorry, 'princesses') knocked him out of the ball park, took over responsibilities, Luna got upset, got banished, thousand years later, everything else happened. It's pretty easy to keep in line. Seriously, why did it get so confusing out Brony Deviant guy had to explain it?
I think the reasoning behind the "confusion" is that some of the fans were angry that the events weren't clear in this episode. We know the events, but there is still speculation with what actually happened and when. Also the fans were mad with the flag shown in the episode. It showed the 2 princesses, but weren't ever mentioned. So was the founding of Equestria before or after Discord's reign? Did Discord control the Windigoes, and if he did, why would a flag showing princesses that came AFTER his reign be used?
Discord and the Windigoes are not connected. Discord likes Chaos and the Windigoes are about freezing things. The flag issue is a bit dumb. It's like seeing a movie taking place in WW2 and the American Flag has 50 stars on it. Historical inaccuracy. It's also possible that the flag is foreshadowing the nation to come.
I agree with the Discord and Windigoes thing, I'm just stating what some bronies are fussing over. As far as the flag goes, it seems to be historically inaccurate, or maybe it was the only prop they had available. It is a play after all. However it somewhat proves the time was before Celestia and Luna as it said that all of the unicorns controlled the sun and moon. Ah well, I'm not too concerned, it's a cartoon in the end and I'm not going to be too picky over a play. If it was an actual episode on the history of Equestria, then that would be a little different.
As for the flag, granted that the dual perception thing is an issue(simeltaneously seeing both the play and the events more realistically), but someone else already said my favoring theory: why do kids use the flag with the fifty stars in plays for the founding of the American nation? because it's easy. Same thing.
Makes sense. Or using a Discord flag very well could send a wrong message. Such as "Here is Equestria, the land of Chaos!" Not the best message for a Holiday play.
I was meant to post this a week ago but I got disturbed. Anyway, here's what I think happened and if I remember correctly the video sums it up pretty well: 1) Earth ponies, pegasi and unicorns create equestria 2) Discord comes and screws over the residents 3) Celestia and Luna who are some sort of kickass goddess ponies screwed over Discord 4) Celestia and Luna rule Equestria 5) Luna has a mood swing and doesn't lower the moon 6) Celestia screws over her sister 7) Thousands of years later Celestia (and now Luna) are still screwing over their subjects
The only thing that bugs me is the whole "all of the unicorns originally controlled the sun and moon". Discord is well capable enough of controlling the sun and moon (Return to Harmony pt2 shows this), as well as Celestia and Luna. Why did the unicorns need this responsibility if their leaders were capable of such things?
