First I appologize if discussion of politics are not allowed. I looked to see if there were any guidelines about it and haven't found anything. Also I am not going to try to criticize anyones political preferences, so please don't let this turn into a hate thread. Just because the politicians do it all the time doesn't mean it is ok for us to do it. If this thread is deemed inapropriate then by all means it should and will be brought to an end.

Anyway, as the name suggests, I am a Ron Paul supporter. There are already two groups I belong to. Those are Small Businesses for Ron Paul and Gamers for Ron Paul. I'm wondering if there are enough brony supporters to justify a Bronies for Ron Paul group? I don't think it can, or should, become successful, but it could be fun.

Can't say I like Ron Paul that much, but I appreciate that you've made the discussion open enough for me to say so.

    Cheers.

Well, I don't know a lot about American politics, I'd support him if his Ideologies are close to PVV's though..
    *googles Ron Paul*
Ooh, He seems awesome. I'd join the group ;)

I hate politics. But Ron Paul is the best candidate for this year.
Here's hoping he beats any nutjobs...

After googling some info and watching some videos on him, he seems to be making the most sense with today's issues and makes some decent points. Although, I am not going to make my final choice yet, so I will remain undecided as who my preferred candidate is. I've lost a lot of faith in the US government structure, so lets leave it at that. Anyone can say anything to become popular, but once they have the power, you never know what their final intentions may be.

Well, he's openly stated he's against SOPA. That's reason enough.

Certainly a good point, but I am quite the skeptic. I will probably end up supporting him, as most of my views side with Republicans, although I will never completely stick to one side. I go by my own morals and feelings toward topics. Going "by the book" with a political party is never a good decision in my opinion. Another reason why I am starting to like Ron Paul, although he sides with the Republican Party, he stated that his views differ from many Republicans in hopes to "change the way people think". Good man.

    *Returns from dead briefly*

This thread caught my eye, I hope more bronies find out about Ron Paul and what he's trying to do from this thread and the people who post in it, he really does seem to be the last hope for this country.

Don't die!!! I will always remain a skeptic toward political figures, but in terms of today's issues and how things have been run, Ron Paul seems like the breath...if not gasp of air the US needs.

I've been looking into what the views are for the 2012 candidates, and I actually found something surprising. Most of the time I disagree with Republican candidates. I support same sex marriage, pro-choice, pull our troops out, focus on America's problems rather than world building. I'm pretty liberal in my views. While I respect that Ron Paul supports same sex marriage, I just disagree with too many of his views to vote for him. I really like how he put it though. He approves of same sex marriage as long as they don't try to impose it on everyone. The whole point of marriage equality is to not go "Neener neener neener, look what we got out of you finally ha hahaha". It's to go "Yay! I can finally get MARRIED to the (wo)man I love!" and be done with it. It should be a full integration into normal society, not making a point to rub it in anyone's face that it's legal now. That's just as wrong as denying them their rights.

Anyway xD (marriage equality is my pet issue). Back to my point. In my travelings, I found a republican candidate that I think I like. I say 'think', because I want to read up on him some more, but so far so good! Fred Karger. We share a lot of the same views. Full marriage equality (Karger is actually openly gay). Pro-choice. Wants to build up schools. Favors diplomacy when dealing with other nations. Wants to help current immigrants gain citizenship and improve border security so that it'll discourage future law breaking.

Granted, he's not your average Republican. He's a liberal gay Jewish man. But I like him. And I hope he gets up there. Unfortunately, I think Ron Paul is a bigger name and will be ahead of him. Oh well. This lady can dream =P

Edit: Ok, I guess Karger is running independent. Which really reduces his chance of winning. America loves it the two party system.

I'm glad to see the replies to this thread already. The thing is, if you think about it, Ron Paul isn't a Republican. Ron Paul is actually a libertarian. The main difference, as I see it, is Republicans are tied in with large corporations and modern day capitalism where Libertarians want much less government and corporate interaction. On social and ethical areas there is not much of a difference between Republicans and Libertarians. Now I don't agree with Ron Paul on a lot of social and ethical issues. It doesn't matter that much though because at least he will support my choice to make my choices with less government involvement. Republicans, on the other hand, are more likely to force their personal views on me while being influenced heavily by the big money. Granted it could turn out that Ron Paul could end up like previous presidents and lie to us about what he is trying to accomplish. Also he would have the very challenging job of having to work with all the other politicians that are holding office. It may be that even with good intentions that he isn't able to accomplish the kinds of changes we need in order to get this country back on its hooves (I used a brony term!), but I think he is more likely to accomplish it than anyone else.

It was mentioned that Ron Paul is against Sopa... That is true and a good thing, but I wouldn't even consider that a very important issue. I'm against Sopa also, but honestly, we will survive just fine if it goes through. I see dozens of reasons to support Ron Paul (and a few reasons not to) that are bigger than this one. Still if that is your reason for wanting to support him then that is good. Sopa is really just a small part of a much much larger problem, it is the same problem that has cost people their jobs, made healthcare unavailable to many people, making people homeless, putting people in jail, and is destroying small business. That of course is that the Corporations and big money have way too much political power. I would say that Copa is a sympton but corporate greed is the disease. Dr Ron Paul may very well be the doctor with the cure. Then again the disease may be so advanced that the treatment is just too late.

I don't really see the problem with big corporations. They make entertainment, products and give lots of people a job, allowing them to make a living.

I don't like that some corporations have done some shady things in the past, and support some not so good things. However, I don't understand how people see that as a reason to boycott a company or to protest or whathaveyou. Especially when they feel the need to attack individual workers for that company. I used to work at a WalMart Supercenter in the produce department (fruits n veggies... yay x3). I'd get people yelling at me for things WalMart has done. It's like... "Lady, you don't understand. I stock tomatoes and lettuce for $9 and hour. I'm HARDLY the person to take this kind of aggression out on."

I agree with you though, Morrowind. I think people need to lay off a bit. Unless you're willing to actually try and DO something, sitting there in your computer chair being super pissed off about something isn't going to change anything. It'll just alienate you from those around you.
