Most of the bronies out here only care about the content. But all this wouldn't be possible without the writers. Moderated by Meghan McCarthy (formerly Rob Renzetti), this staff, consisting of Mitch A. Larson, McCarthy, Cindy Morrow, Dave Polsky, Amy Keating Rogers, and Mary Williams, all the humor wouldn't be possible without these 6. (In case you're wondering why I didn't mention Charlotte Fullerton or Chris Savino, Savino left after season 1, and Fullerton after season 2). You can call me whatever you want, such as "Asspie" or "Freak", but I'm just odd this way. Now, I'll pop in once in a while to reveal some details/news about the writing staff, as well as other miscellaneous things. Me and Testyal1 will be keeping an eye out for other stuff and will be having some banter. Feel free to post what you think of the writers as well, bronies! TL;DR Me and Testy are starting a writer's thread, all bronies welcome.
so is it okay to talk about writing itself, or just opinions on writers? Either way, I want to join the party! Also, a question: are you a genre-specialized author, or do you write in all the genres?
Either way will do. Coincidentally, I am majoring in writing, and I'm trying things out, but it seems like I'm more suited for humor.
We're going to kick this thread off with my individual writer grades: Charlotte Fullerton: She can be a wild card. On one hand, she wrote "A Bird in the Hoof". On the other hand, she wrote "Look Before You Sleep". "Suited for Success" and "May the Best Pet Win" are middle-of-the-road. B- Mitch A. Larson: My favorite writer. All of his episodes have been hilarious and have a great plot. A+ Meghan McCarthy: "Dragonshy", "Green Isn't Your Color", "Party of One", "Sweet and Elite". All awesome. She'd be my favorite writer if not for "Call of the Cutie" and "Lesson Zero". A- Cindy Morrow: On one hand, she wrote "Winter Wrap Up" and "Family Appreciation Day". On the other hand, she wrote "Griffon the Brush Off" and "Owl's Well That Ends Well". B Dave Polsky: You ain't looking so good, Dave. We'll wait and see, but it's two strikes already for "Feeling Pinkie Keen" and "Over a Barrel". C- Amy Keating Rogers: Great humor and plot. It would be an A+, but "The Cutie Pox" was forgettable. A Chris Savino: All I can say is, thank god he's left. F Mary Williams: "Hearth's Warming Eve" was alright, but you can't be forgiven for writing "The Mysterious Mare Do Well". D
perhaps you have a link to a list of who wrote what? I would comment, but I don't have enough information to judge for myself in this case. Particularly for Rogers and Larson, perhaps Savino as well. I've got to say, though, I think Meghan McCarthy really should get an A. 'Lesson Zero' was pretty clever, and the positives are pretty noteworthy. To be frank, I mostly ignore CMC episodes, so I can't remember what the other negative was even about.
PREDICTION TIME: When "prediction time" is called out, I name the upcoming episodes and will try to predict who will write them. I correctly predicted that Cindy Morrow would write "Family Appreciation Day", so let's see if this works out. Baby Cakes: Meghan McCarthy The Last Roundup: Charlotte Fullerton The Super Speedy Cider Squeezy 6000: Amy Keating Rogers Read It and Weep: Dave Polsky Hearts and Hooves: Mitch A. Larson These are all purely hypothetical. I take no responsibility if you lose your house when you follow my predictions. And besides, what were you doing betting your damn house anyways?
Timur: Look up "List of My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic episodes" on Wikipedia. It should be a comprehensible list of who wrote what.
You dislike some of the episodes I enjoyed in favor of ones I didn't care for. Who wrote Boast Busters (Trixie's episode) and A Dog and Pony Show (diamond dogs)?
I'm Agree with Aynine on this one, Twilightsprinkle. Some of the writer you marked with a bad grade are the ones i really enjoyed. Not to say the rest of the writes aren't good but frankly, i think all of them are great writers.
Just a reminder: These episodes are ALL my opinion. Yes, I have received lots of flak for hating on Lesson Zero, but I just hate it. These are all my opinion. Aynine: Chris Savino wrote Boast Busters, Amy Keating Rogers wrote A Dog and Pony Show.
To be fair, as many neat jokes are in Lesson Zero, I know that one's not high on my rewatch list. For now I mostly chock that up to the fact I actually didn't like Twi's breakdown, but I suppose sometime I shouldgo in and really analyze the episode.
I thoroughly enjoyed Lesson Zero, but I don't feel it's appropriate for both the show or the character. Boast Busters was one of my favorite episodes and I, among others, wish Trixie's return.

You know what, this thread was a bad idea. And it looks like Testy isn't going to help me out. Mods, lock it, please.
I don't know, it could still turn out for the better. It's good in concept (maybe we should take a slight conversation change, that's all-writing encompasses quite a lot of material).
Oh come on, there's no need to be like that =3 I find this thread quite interesting. Don't fall down on the first hurdle!
I don't have a parchment and quill cutie mark for just any old reason! I have a BA in digital art and English writing. While I had to get the practical degree, I adore writing fiction, as well as editing documents too. I post on fictionpress and fanfiction.net but I'm not going to advertise here. I think people trivialize writers and what they do. I'm so happy to see on or two names per episode, instead of just a gigantic team of piece-meal writers. The show itself is so intelligent and well-written you can TELL they put a lot of time, care, and effort into it. It tickles my black, inky heart! And is it just me or would Princess Luna and Zacora be especially fun to write dialogue for?
Okay, I'm restarting. A question for you bronies: What do you think of Charlotte Fullerton, Rob Renzetti, and Chris Savino's departure, and Meg McCarthy becoming the new story editor? To be honest, I'm a little bummed about Fullerton and Renzetti leaving, but it's definitely alright by me that Savino's left. And juding by the episodes McCarthy's wrote, she's going to turn out just fine.
I miss Nightmare Moon all the while wishing to see her return or to see Luna and Celestia in slightly more prominent roles. Nicole Oliver is such a vetted voice acrtress, I'm surprised they don't have her with more lines. Cheerilee and Princess Celestia are both rare occurrences as it is. Who wrote Luna's (as well as Nightmare Moon's) character (S1E01-2, S2E04)? Who wrote Discord (S2E01-2)? It was kind of disheartening to hear that John de Lancie's work was done separate from the rest of the VAs.
