I don't like being called a pegasister.

Yeah, I was thining about the similarity between 'Brony' and 'Trekkie' the other day. Personally I don't mind being called a brony, and I don't really have a problem with pegasister either. No, I don't think that the word itself is particularly attractive, but I do appreciate why some fans would like to have different names for fans of different sexes.

To be honest I like both terms. I consider myself a pegasister becuase more than a few people have nick named me "big sister" so it's more personal to me than the term "brony."

The nice thing about being sentient beings with free will is that we have choice. I choose to enjoy the term and others don't. Doesn't mean I don't respect you <3

AND if we're going to be technical, Pegasus was the name of the horse, the correct term for a winged horse is a Hippogryph. :p

A Hippogryph is the offspring of a Griffon and a mare. A winged horse is a Pegasus.

Ok we're both part right. You're correct on the hyppogryph front, but Pegasus is the name of the winged horse, not the technical term for it. You could call a winged horse 'Pegasian' to describe its physical appearance, but to call a winged horse a "pegasus" (lower case) would be like calling a random man, whose name you don't know, a "Bob."

BUT at the end of the day, Western culture has dubbed the winged horse a "pegasus" and no hollering of mine will change that xD

I'm not entirely sure what 'technical' term you're referring to. Pegasus is a Latin term and is derived from the Greek word Πήγασος/Pegasos. In Greek mythology "Pegasus" is the horse's name, sired by Poseidon as a horse-god. It didn't become a universal term for all winged horses until the 20th and 21st centuries. So the origin of Pegasus, isn't a term, but the name for the horse-god.

Which was in turn, originally, a proper name like "Jason", "Bob" or "Susan" not a species descriptor like "horse", "mare", or "colt." So calling a winged horse a "Pegasus" rather than some other species term like "winged horse" seemed kind of odd to me and always has. That was what I was getting at, is all.

Yeah, I knew where brony was derived from. I was a /b/ro at the time of the release of FiM.

Well honestly, I can't find an actual species because "Pegasus" isn't a species, and Google isn't being nice to me:derpe:. It was one mythological horse, and the name was simply adopted as a species.

True, winged horses are named after Perseus's mount, not the other way round.

This might be a little off topic, but did anyone see the remake of the Clash of the Titans?

Yeah, google just isn't the same omnipotent being of infinite knowledge it used to be. But yes, to type into the original topic, we can split hairs all we want about terms for things, so long as we can look passed it and see that it is, in fact, what it is, then it shouldn't matter. Also I shall never use commas ever again...*lie* >.>

And it poses a good question. Will the winged horses ever get a real species name? We are now offtopic, so I'll end by saying that maybe in the future of mythological animals, someone will create an actual species name.

Pegasus is a lot like alicorn. An alicorn is the horn of a unicorn. The term was later coined for a winged unicorn. It's the established norm and clears up confusion as it is simpler or more concise. I think that is why everyone prefers brony. There is simply no need for pegasister when everyone accepts brony as the generalized term for both genders.

But at the same time there are some, like me, who are still newbies and were not aware there even was a community at all. When I heard both terms I prefered pegasister. I'm not a bro lol. Plus it's easier talking to pony neutrals when a lady calls herself a pegasister. Just my opinion.

In the end it's your decision. Some girls hate pegasister, others like it.

In the case of speaking to others, I just say, "I'm a fan of the show."

    I think pegasister sounds cute.

I'm not a female but if I was I would want to be called that.

However it is a bit sexist to have a special word for one particular gender and then a word 'brony' to encompass both genders. I consider pegasister a subcategory of brony. So somepony needs to invent a manly word for us.

    Begin the brainstorming.

    how does Brocolt, sound.

    Wait OMG I know Unicolt!

This confuses me, a colt is a male horse. Are we thinking of a new name for brony...? Lets not do that. Brony is fine, Pegasister is ok for those who like the name, but brony is perfectly fine for all genders.

I think all he was getting at is ladies shouldn't be the only one with an alternate option to keep things equal.
