Recently, as in a mere few hours ago, two popular YouTube channels with all episodes were taken down. Cyzzacle was completely terminated while thehochmastervids simply had the videos removed. He stated in a video response that he will re-upload them all in a new channel, thehochmaster2 Personally I don't think this is a good idea for him to do this. He can get into a lot of legal trouble. But at the same time it hurts me to see Hasbro do this. What are your thoughts? Discuss.
way i see it a s*it load of mlp publicity gose threw youtube without any effort on hasbro's part, they seemd to be cool with it at first so only thing i can think of is that there going SOPA or that they might release a dvd soon
Personally, if Hasbro had a subscribe feature on their website where fans could watch every episode, they'd make a lot more money and the Bronies would have a way to watch their favorite show and support My Little Pony at the same time. I might watch the Youtube videos, but I try to get the My Little Pony merchandise I can find in stores to support it. Also, it might be a shame they're taking down these channels when Youtube is how so many people have come to watch the show, but, with them being so protective of their licensed videos, maybe they'll be coming out with that DVD box set everypony's been asking for sooner than you think! It is a common practice for Youtube to remove episodes streamed of different anime when the series is released in English in order to protect sales. That, or they could be testing the waters by removing these videos to see how far Bronies will actually go to get legitimate copies of the episodes without stealing them, so they'll know whether or not to even make the season and (eventually) series box sets.
Ehhhh I'm not so sure about it being because of SOPA. It hasn't even passed yet, so why would that influence their takedowns? But I do think it may be a DVD release. They were ok with the streams for awhile. The fact they are randomly taking them down sounds like they are planning something.
with a little time and research yourl find a few companys that are doing this to prepare for sopa incase its passed i wouldent be suprised if hasbro thinks of doing the same

I know of very few bronies who found the show by watching it free online that have not bought at least a few blind bags. Their little girl audience probably buy less then bronies do and now they want to cut off internet nerds from their demographic? Why doesn't their marketer just make toys that bronies will like and price then ridiculously high. So many bronies I know would be crazy enough to buy them. At least their hasn't been a desist order on custom toys yet, but at this rate it seems bound to happen.
The two big issues as they exist is that they are releasing stuff on DVD now and that the Hub is actually doing poorly. Both are major considerations that require them to act and limit the amount of online pony episode consumption. I don't hold it against them, and just wish they'd make season box sets already.
I guess noone except 6 year old girls watch the HUB for anything other then MLP:FiM. I even see people in live stream get angry if they are forced to watch any of Strawberry Shortcake just before the episode. Sometimes I wish fans would grow up. If the hub is doing poorly despite this fandom, then I guess the fandom is doomed. Everyone of us are internet savvy enough to get the episodes by alternative means if and even heightened toy sales and Welovefine's top sales being pony shirts then goodbye ponies.
I don't find much of this all that surprising. Youtube has always been a tool. Any and every company will abuse it. If Mic or another artist I'm more familiar with gets banned from Youtube, then I'll be angry. Not that that's likely. I watch my episodes live/on recordings anyway.
The show must stay marketed for their targeted audience. However, FiM has actually raked in a very substantial amount for Hasbro. Equestria Daily has posted their sales information a few times. I implore you to check it out. I agree that they should market show-accurate toys. It would be a major boon to their sales. I am dying for a Nightmare Moon plushie. Fan created ones (which are freaking amazing btw) sell for no less than $200. I would love a Luna scarf or other moon-decorated warming garment.

What you have to understand is a couple of things: 1) While they may think it's great we like it and enjoy their work, at the end of the day they still need to make money. A show like this won't always be popular for our demographic, and eventually it'll go back to just being for little girls and the die hard fans. Changing things like the toys and making their canon fit our fanon probably wouldn't be a good step in the long run as changes like that can go either way. 2) They do want to make it available for us to buy, but either laws or contract agreements prevent them doing so. Rather than complain and make them out to be villains, I think the best we can do is support them however we can and be patient. They make the show that we enjoy so much, who are we to be angry at them for it? Would the show be half as good if WE were in charge?
As much as this sucks, I completely support Hasbro in their choice of having the episodes taken down. Just because I don't like it doesn't mean I have to be against it. They allowed it at first which was awesome, the show got off to an amazing start and the fandom was born. But now, we're already so popular, the audience from Season 1 to Season 2 has more than doubled and toy sales are at an all time high. The videos have done what they were meant to do and there's nothing that's going to change Hasbro's mind. Those of us who can watch the Hub or go on the site should indeed do so, and for those who can't, I never said they should stop.
This. While I'm sure we can all agree it would be amazing if Hasbro would market fanon toys, it's just not possible. Although one thing that can be changed and should be changed, is for them to at least stamp the cutie marks on both flanks. That's the only thing that really bugs me with the toys. Other than that, I'm actually quite happy with the amount of toys they put out. And to be honest, I'd rather have Hasbro make money vs losing money attempting to make canon-fanon accurate toys.
I want to buy episodes, but not through iTunes. Because their bullcrap DRM makes it so you can only watch it on the purchased computer and Apple products. And I'd rather give my money to Hasbro, not Apple. So until Hasbro releases DVD's, I'll just stick to my current download source.
Considering this generation is the most successful by far, I really don't feel it's negative for them. The only real change I can think of that's positive is Celestia being pink instead of white. Naming the background characters themselves makes sense, but the established main characters seem like they should be accurate, at least.
