Ok. This is a bit rant-ish, but i just want to say it and see if anyone has the same thoughts as me. I stand VERY strongly against shipping and sexual fan-fictions. I dont know why, but these irritate me to ABSOLUTELY NO END!!! The FlutterDash, PinkieDash, RainbowPie, FlutterPie, The G&P Trilight Sparkle, etc. Another thing Im against are the horror fanfics, but specifically Cupcakes, Sweet Apple Massacre, and Rainbow Factory. They are just so....wrong! The thought of taking a show about magical ponies, then taking one, torturing her, then mutilating the body such as Pinkie and Rainbow Dash, or Big Mac and Scootaloo is horrifying as well as sickening. Im sure other people disagree, and have there own opinions, as well as they are entitled to, but these are just mine and a few others opinions. Thanks for reading if you did. ***UPDATE*** OK, I've somewhat waded through the replies, and have seen phenomenal understanding from both sides, but my point still stands. It didn't occur to me that some of the fan-fics I read, could be labeled as some of these. I, after putting deeper though into this, don't hate on cloppers, whatever "gets you off" I suppose. Some of the fan-fics I do like: (Even though I cried very, very, very intensely and it made me reconsider my outlook on life) My Little Dashie. The writing and imagery were BEAUTIFULLY made, and the story was FANTASTIC. BUT, it isn't a favorite of mine because of how sad it is at the end. Fallout: Equestria. I may have had a different perspective on it, but I LOVE THE ACTUAL GAME SERIES FALLOUT! So, my opinion may or may not be a little bit biased. I don't remember the name (If you know it, please tell me) but it was the fanfic where Prince BlueBlood's older brother shows up to the GGG after the episodes events. I am, still however, opposed to the...heavily sexually charged fanfics. The romantic fics, every once in a while I'll read one I enjoy, but these hyped up, more than likely hormone crazed, pony-based orgies are NOT respectful to the shows, it's morals, or anything it stands for, and in my opinion, is disgusting. I wish I could say I tolerate the people that make these, but I have to be honest. I have absolutely no tolerance for it. *THANKS FOR YOUR TIME* -F1R3FR05T
i completely a agree i may use such fanfics for comidic refrence in my own fanfic, but i can not as a loving uncle to a 4 year old who likes the show, approve of such fandom i like the show cause its innocent, cute, and gives a few good lessons on friendship not cause its the perfect veawpoint for twisted so called "artist" to work with
I like shipping, I really sure why, I just love Twixie and AppleDash. I guess it's cause I think it's cute. Clopfics though, I'm not a fan. I read one, it was okay, light on the clop more on the story. Still not my thing. As far as the grimdark stuff goes. I like it too. Not the S.A.M, that fic was horrible. I loved Rainbow factory. Cupcakes is kinda . I kinda have a grimdark project going now. I always like cute things turned creepy or dark and brutal. The artist are not "twisted" it's how they express themselves in art and I have no problem with it. If I don't like the content I just don't look.
Pedophilia rape is not "art" and if thats how they express themselves then i shed no tear in there deaths (reffering to S.A.M) (just to clear up on my last post) im good with a horror fic or two and im good with shipping's or simply implying that something of that nature happend im also good with, but when fandom gets so gory and perverted to the point that i consider no longer letting my niece watch the show now thats something different entirely
Well Im most big against the clopping, clopfics, shipping, and grimdark stuff. Really the only fanfic ive read that ive enjoyed was Fallout: Equestria, so its not that i hate fanfics in general. I also find the clopfics and shipping and grimdark stuff mostly target Rainbow Dash, which irritates me as she is my favorite pony.
I'm okay with gore Fan-fic with fans of the show draw and post on the internet, that's all find to me. The only thing i find unappealing is the Sexual content fan-fics from the fans. Look, i'm not say stop what your doing and stop drawing these, but its like a kiss on the cheek, that's fine with me cause it suppose to be cute. But doing stuff like ponies having sex or licking each other or showing off there bodying in a sexy pose i go....Why? I seen these and at first I was like "Okay? Whatever..." Now it silly now. I'm not asking to stop but to all seriousness...it's silly.
Sorry, I was skypeing and didn't have time to read the whole thing. People like Lupr and Crookedtrees, who draw the awesome creepy art. That's how they express themselves. Those people should be allowed to do that as they see fit. There is a group on deviant art called MLP abyss. It is all creepy, Grimdark art work.
I thought Rainbow Factory was a cool idea. Cupcakes and S.A.M. were not. I like Romance and Shipping, but I don't like clopfics. I've written a Romantic MLP fic, but clopfics are a literary turn-off for me. Implied sexual relationships are fine sometimes, because then it could add to the story, but I don't actually want to have to read it. I love their stuff.
Fanworks in themselves are simply not for everyone. If there's an idea, it can evolve into something. I, personally, am a huge fan of romance. It stems from a variety of things, but I like reading about the happy love stories. In the case of Rainbow Dash: She's arguably the most popular of the Mane 6, and the attention received is mirrored through every outlet equally. The fanfiction and art will always be there because the ideas are there. My best advice is to just not go looking for it or ignore it.
I'm not into girl on girl, so the shipping doesn't appeal to me in the slightest. I'd prefer new "episode" like stories or EPIC SAGAS through Equestria. Though I'm with the OP on this one. We love the show for its innocence, clean morals, great message. Why would people WANT to turn it into the Ponyville Shore?
No one wants this. As long as I've delved into fanfiction, such a thing isn't wanted by anyone. That show is awful. When I look at the romance fanfiction, I don't see it for the pairings of genders, but rather, the characters. I could care less if they were male or female. But again, this is me personally.
I've read two fanfics. Not just for MLP, we're talking ever. 1)Creeping Darkness by Pen Stroke. I read this one out of morbid curiosity that grew out of a conversation on Youtube, and I really liked it. I will say that this convinces me that darker stuff can be done with FiM IF YOU KNOW WHAT YOU'RE DOING AND DO NOT ABANDON THE FEEL AND IDEALS OF THE SHOW. The darkness does weigh in, but it never once came at the cost of warmth as well as the preservation and power of innocence. And that's important, because if you don't maintain that integrity, you're just writing a story with ponies as characters and not a MLP:FiM fanfiction. 2)Forever! By....*swears*Don't remember who, but this was a Dresden Files/MLP Crossover...except not really, it's more like Pinkie goes and causes Dresden some trouble. It was cute and funny, no real comment on it though. It was sort of accurate to both sides...sort of(Dresden's universe got violated as some of the villians Pinkie contacts don't act accordingly). On the whole, one of the reasons I don't like fanfictions normally is because they betray their source material by not staying true to the ideas and moods of them-they just do whatever. As such for FiM fanfictions, this is a real problem for the grimdark writers, because it is SO HARD to balance optimism and joy with the weighty things that dark pieces call for. From the little trial I had with writing the sample chapter for A Spark for the Lost, I've already struggled with that notion, and I'm CHEATING in that story-it's part of the reason I'm not keen on following up on it unless I get response for it. As for shipping....*sigh*That breaks the integrity in all sorts of other ways. I mean, look at Rainbow Dash-she's the most popular shipping subject, and without reading any of them, I can promise you none of them maintain her character. I'm not saying it's impossible-on a unrelated note, I would love to see a well done episode focused on Rainbow Dash about the disturbing trend of many young women in adolescence of radically changing their personality to, if nothing else, fit in with all the other people who are now being tugged by their hormones, I've seen it happen and found it tragic but don't have a solid answer in regards to it(really, I shouldn't)-but you either need to be a master writer to keep within Rainbow Dash as she is now, or you would need to set it up several episodes/stories in advance(And that can be just simply the societal change of adolescence, with no mention of attraction towards another person). Shipping stories, though, take place in one story, and often set in a time close to the show's continuity. It's hard to get a online readership to follow a fanfiction series-it's hard enough to get one book. Point is: Most people just can't maintain character integrity while establishing a believable romance for shipping fictions to make them even worth looking at. And then...there's clopping. ... (At No One In Particular, definitely no one I know here)WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE? THEY ARE HORSES. IT'S CALLED BEASTIALITY. I DON'T CARE HOW SMART AND PERSONABLE THEY ARE, THEY ARE STILL HORSES. THAT'S CREEPY. Distrubingly, I actually do understand WHY some people's thoughts go that way(drawbacks of anthromorphization), but I still can't believe people act on it enough to create fan works around that idea or jack off to them. I can't beleive we have a unique TERM for that, that's how boggled I am. As for everything else, as well a SUMMARY FOR THOSE PEOPLE WHO ARE LAZY: I believe-and encourage the pursuit thereof-in the idea that fans can create something of quality that can meet or even excell beyond the standards set by the original source material. BUT I believe that most people writing these sort of things either do not think about their works in such terms or have practiced their skills enough to do so. In doing so, I create a catch 22 in regards to fanfictions, since these are often the ways writers improve in the first place at younger ages, where I encourage and could potentially see some very satisfying works but automatically assume the worst of them and therefore never give them the credit they may deserve. IMPORTANT POINT! But so long as you remain true to the source material, even in a work full of OC's and original locations and such, it is possible to for this stuff to be amazing, particularly since they aren't under the same limits as the original creator often.
.......... i just read that hole thing and have only this to say....... rule 34.... bad very bad...... people who follow this rule are no real fans of anything but perversion
I like shipping, but only to a certain extent, and it has to somewhat make sense. I hate "cupcakes" fanfics, drawings, anything. I think it's gross and I find no humor in it. Grimdark is ok, but once again only to a certain extent. And as for rule 34...just no. And be careful mentioning the subject, it's not allowed here.
