On meditation; if you try to shut off your brain you'll only end up frustrated. It's impossible to do that for anyone who isn't a zen-monk. Just lie or sit down and try to breath slowly for a few minutes, and maybe think about peacefull things (ponies? :3) It's hard in the very beginning, but it's just that rough start you have to get over.
I agree with Twinkle on meditation. In the beginning, you might want to start with just five minutes of sitting quietly, and do that every day for a week. I'm sort of a, well, I don't want to claim to be a natural meditator (is that a word? Where's my Sweetie Belle?), but I can relax my mind pretty much anywhere and at any time. But I've been doing it for many years, sometimes without realizing it. At first, just let your mind flow, and watch where it goes in those five minutes. You'll be amazed.
I'll have to try that ^_^ It seems like a very good way to start and end the day. Also, I got my test results today. My doctor is referring me for "general surgery for gallstones". So, it's looking like bye bye gallbladder xD
I have a tendency to laugh at my hyperactive analysis of many things. Everyone once in a while, my thoughts will branch off into so many things that I stop and think, "Wait a minute. How did I get here from here?" These same observations in group conversations while playing WoW are quite hilarious, too.
If I might make a suggestion, take a peek in this thread: http://www.everypony.com/forums/showthread.php?2901-Lucid-dreaming It's about Lucid dreaming, but about halfway through the topic switches to that of Sleep Paralysis, and how to force yourself into it. This is essentially meditation and if you're having problems falling asleep, this will make it much easier. Give it a go if you feel the need.
