I can get away with trying to 'convert' people. It's "cause I'm a girl". One of the manliest girls you will ever meet. And my bf is one of the girliest men you will ever meet.

Poor Twilight, being hit by a head in her butt, and being hit by a butt in her head...
Anyway, of course, the first look on the show gives it a Girly feeling. The only people who would call it girly are the ones who haven't watched any episode of it.
I (And a lot of other ponies/bronies, obviously) got into the show because of Curiosity, I was like "How the Colorful Rainbow did this become so popular among older men?"... After watchin' 2 episodes, I sure did know how (3rd and 4th).

When I first heard of MLP: FiM, honestly, not once did I ever say "My Little Pony? That show is stupid and for girls!". I've never seen an episode of it before so, I'm not at liberty to judge somthing I've never seen before, am I? After watching "Sonic Rainboom" and "Fall Weather Friends" (Thanks Sedaheht!) I was in love!

Anyway, let's steer this thread back on topic shall we?
(not that this wasn't turning in to a fun conversation!)

The GGG definitley has a lot to live up to after this episode! Am I right?
I have a feeling there's no way this episode will be topped! No two ways about it!
Unless that song where, apparently, all six of the mane cast have their own solo in it, that I hear is going to be in it is epic enough, than maybe it just might slip by! Who knows?

Should we mention Pinkie Pie's most infamous fanfic , or pretend it didn't happen. In the case of the later, ignore this post!!!

This is the funniest episode. And one of the most serious episodes... And of course one of the best episodes.
Pinkie is really great here. Her chasing Rainbow Dash was exciting and funny. With straight hair she looks so beautiful... Singing telegram was a good idea too.

I certainly haven't read it, and I don't intend to, so I'll probably never know all the details, but I get the gist of it. (wow, 3 different coordinating conjunctions in a row- that's like a 3-hit combo!) This episode raised an interesting point related to that fanfic that I brought up in my analysis of Pinkie- what could have happened if the party didn't change her? What if she had stayed in the form of Pinkamena forever? Would she have become a psychopathic killer? Chances are it wouldn't have gone THAT far, but we all saw just how crazy she went. Need we be reminded of the oh-so-popular derp eyes scene? As I've also occasionally mentioned before, I've got a fanfic idea where Pinkamena returns, and she doesn't act quite as insane as she seems in this episode, but she definitely is psychotic. This isn't helped by the fact that this time around she has [REDACTED], which she uses after she [REDACTED] to [REDACTED]. To find out what has been redacted, you'll have to wait until I eventually get around to writing it. Now I've completely deviated from the original point, which is this- it's a freaking good thing that Rainbow was able to get Pinkie to that party. Of course, if she hadn't, we'd all see what Pinkamena would have ultimately become, which I don't think would be pretty any way you slice it.

This is one of my favorite episodes! I loved all of Pinkie's manic facial expressions in this one (especially reacting to Spike). The suspense of the situation was really amplified by her craziness. Oh, Pinkie Pie...

This is the only episode I've ever watched with anyone.

I showed my little brother. He wasn't really a big fan but he's a thirteen year old boy so I wasn't expecting him to embrace it like I do. He's accepting of my ponyism even if he doesnt quite get it. I can listen to everypony radio with him in the room though.

I love this episode, so much. It's deep, and makes a lot of sense.

Pinkie Pie couldn't party on the rock farm. She lived a solitary life (not alone, just unsocial). When she saw the sonic rainboom, she was introduced to this world of fun, parties and happiness.
Pinkie Pie supressed this childhood, almost building a second life on top of these foundations. She left behind this life of misery and solitude for a friend filled life of partying.

Of course, with her friends leaving her, she is stripped of this constructed life, and reverts back to her childhood. Unable to deal with this, she desperately clings to the remains of her party life, as shown through her 'contructed' friends (Mr Rock, Mr Turnip, I forget the names). Those ticks that she goes through seem to represent her childhood seeping through the cracks in her broken party life. The way the constructed friends talk negatively about Pinkie's real friends seems to be Pinkie shifting her childhood onto them, denying that they have been taken away from her, and are instead just as bad as her childhood.

I don't feel Pinkie was truly psychotic in this episode, rather desperately trying to supress a lonely and depressing childhood.

Is this REALLY a kid's show?

Yes, it is. But then again, it's a family show, and you can analyze ANYTHING to extreme depths if you have enough spare time

As for your theory, while it's a logical explanation, it's still an explanation to her insanity. We know Pinkie has limitless energy, and this caused questionable sanity, as it would in most people. However, this energy is funneled to her whims, and if said whims suddenly change, the energy will be directed to them. This is where the spinning top principle comes in.

A spinning object will maintain it's direction. As such, a spinning top will stay upright. Now, this is also true of people, who will, as they put energy into a behavior, be harder to steer away from said behavior. I have seen this happen to too many people, and can see it in Pinkie too. However, with her, the result is more obvious. At first, as you said, she funnels her energy into her party life. This is to such an extent that she is unphased by most events of the series. However, after a large exertion of energy (the party of the previous day), and with a sizable push (rejection by all of her friends), Pinkie is shifted from her party 'rut' so to speak into a depressive mood. Then, as she put energy into said depression, she needed a sizable boost to get her out of it. However, with no one to provide said boost, she just went deeper and deeper. If not for the fact that this is a kid's show, I doubt Pinkie would ever have left said state, or at least have stayed in said state for a fairly long time.

Confound this pony goa, it drives me to analyze.

I think Pinky Pie looks good with her hair down, I just don't like how her pink color becomes dull as well though, but I like when she suddenly pops back to normal at her party.
