Just a quick announcement. The Forum Games subforum has been temporarily modified so that it no longer adds to your post count. Among the reasons for doing this is that some feel that it should not add to your post count as they are just games and not meaningful forum posts and that they just allow post counts to become largely inflated. If this goes well and is received well then this change shall become permanent. Please tell us what you think below. ~Foxytail
I disagree with this move. Every other forum on this Internet classes forum games as posts, so why should we class them as sub-posts? Maybe class them as half a post? *Prepares for epic backlash*
Well look at it this way: When a new user joins the forums they keep an eye out for those who have been here longer as a way of figuring out what to do and how to act. Since we no longer have the rep system this can be identified through post count. What we're trying to do here (I assume) is to keep forum games from adding to ones post count because as you can see it easily has more posts than the General Discussion Sub-forum with at least 8,000 posts, so in the future those with high post counts will have them comprised of posts that are more than "^Banned for [Insert Reason]"
Not necessarily true. I've seen other forums do the same thing where games subforums do not count toward post count.
Actually, a lot of forums I've been on have used this system as a given. Never caused any problems, I don't see why it should here.
I think this is a good move. Forum games are just that, so they shouldn't reflect changes to the post count.
Sounds like a good move to me. Considering 'The Person Above You' thread has The second most posts on the forum, And I scarcely think that most of them have any considerable meaning to them, It seems like a sound plan.
I'm assuming anyone who has posted in forum games will still have their post count? I'd have lowered them respectively, but it's not my call. Perhaps the general chat thread too, considering it is just that - general chat? Maybe, maybe not, I'm not sure.
There's some meaningful stuff in the general chat. Lots of pony discussion as well, I don't think it would be fair to cancel the posts.
I don't know, while there may be some things in the general chat thread that may have some significance and be well thought out, though most of it seems to not be like that. I don't know though, I don't spend much time in it as the rest of you so I'm not a fair judge in that. Perhaps it would be best to leave it up to a poll as we did with the rep system?
The general chat is also a handy place to post ideas that don't need a whole thread to be discussed in, and it's a great place for new users (like me, when I first joined) to get aquainted with the site and the rest of the community. Sure there's some random jabbering as well, but I still think it counts. Just my opinion.
We do not want another poll like that. Post count was part of the problem with the Rep System anyways. Consider this a delayed part of the solution.
