I agree with you on that, but what I'm getting at with overpopulation is the fact that before advances in medical science people were leaving the planet at a much higher rate with smaller life expectancies and the like. Since our medicine has evolved a lot, we have longer life expectancies, are better at saving lives, recovering from illnesses that would have destroyed whole cities, and etc. With this all happening and snowballing forward, our population has boomed, making it necessary to clear what used to be farm land and forest for developments (I've seen it happen all over the place where I've lived). I agree we do not know how to manage our resources, nor do a lot of religious extremists realize that their texts and dogmas were meant for a time in which a mother had a 50/50 shot of dieing in childbirth, children died at young ages all the time, and it was important to keep your population high for political/territorial reasons. They use these ideas to justify the "incorrectness" they claim about non-hetero joinings. They see it as lust and not love, not a reasonable step forward for the good of humanity it can be. Oh and I am straight and want children someday AND support the LGBT community . There are many more like me out there, but you never hear about us...
I'm just so very very gratefull I'm not in some American highschool. That this kind of stuff happens is disgusting. Kids shouldn't have to feel afraid to express who they are. Religious fundamentalism... it's basically just fear of the unknown. And making others suffer over it. Yuck.
It's sad, but true. I wish there were more people like you. That way all of this talk of political "bias" because all of the supporters of LGBT are ACTUALLY LGBT themselves would cease. It's stupidity.
Yes, and quite often we're objects of scorn among some, understandably bitter people in the LGBT community as well. They feel becuase they were victims of hate and prejudice it gives them the right to do the same, and it can be just as hurtful. If I had a dollar for every time I got called a: "small-minded Nazi", "fish", or "breeder" because I defended man/woman relationships, I'd be rich. I HAD to defend them becuase there was a lot of hate-speech being spread by those bitter people, and well, two wrongs often don't make a right...unless we're talking numbers...curse you science!! I believe we straight supporters in my college's GSA used the mantra: "We're straight, but not narrow!"
Irrespective of who these people are or who they represent, what they say about the LGBT community and its members as individuals is wrong. Wrong, wrong, wrong. If they feel like they need evidence of that, they can look at the cold, hard fact: a girl killed herself because she felt like she wasn't accepted. Not just ostricized, but put down and made to feel like she was worth less than other people. That hatred, that spiral of words and actions that culminate in someone taking their life will always be wrong. Those ignorant, biased, hateful people should feel ashamed. Not only have they caused suicides with their banter (or something close to cause), but they've taught their children to do the same. If I sound angry, it's because I am. I'll admit it; this stuff gets to me. The truth is that there are people in these groups (the extremist Christian factions such as the one in this town) who are OK with suicides like these. I've met those people: people who say children like that deserve to die. Who the buck do you think you bucking are, saying that about other humans? That they deserve death or eternal damnation? I love and would cry on the shoulder of any of my Christian friends. They've always been there for me, just like my LGBT friends. Christians are poorly represented by those extremists. I'm not Christian, but I still see how Christians, like any group of people, are capable of love and affection. All we can do with every new day to make ourselves better is to show that we are different, that we care, and that we can accept people for who they are. The victims should know that there's always a place for them. Next time, when you see someone say something hateful, stand up for what's right. That's my rant. I'm not sure what else to say. Things like this are just horrible.
People fear what they cannot understand. Imagine the Salem "witches". If you did anything wrong, someone just cried witch and there was no reasonable/logical way to disprove and you were pretty much burned at the stake. The "gay agenda" is the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard. Like... PETA ridiculous.
That's a fairly apt analogy, especially since I read "The Crucible" last year. I wasn't aware all the gay people had a meeting and decided on an agenda. :derpe: That's entirely ludicrous.
I'm with ya, Saikyo. I wish this world would wake up and accept what is going on this world. Gays among us? We must bully them to the point where they either snap or really, kill themselves. Nothing gets me more frustrated then seeing a Gay boy or Girl getting picked on by a crowd of people picking on him or her for this. It's clinches me up in angry and drives me over to the crowd of bullies and makes me sucker punch them in the face. As a heterosexual boy, I support Gays. Their happiness for who they are is their way of happiness and Didn't god what us to be happy? If so then why being Gay make God angry? Abomination to all things good? Bull S**t! That person is a human being you are picking on just like you and me and you picking on this person of his/her sexuality is just ignorant and wrong. Everyone deserves happiness and taking it from this person may be bitter sweet for you but this person...No.
I'm Christian,I'm slightly homophobic (DON'T JUDGE ME!) But I don't go around bashing gay people and driving them to suicide. I have nothing against gays i just don't support gay marriage. Like i said DON'T JUDGE ME! It's extremist idiots like these that make athiests hate us....
Sparky I have no reason to judge you. While I might not like your stance on the matter, it doeant mean we can't be friends. I see no problem with any 2 people being married. Be them, gay, straight or whatever. Why shouldn't they be allowed to be married. Is it hurting anyone. No not at all. Being athiest myself, I don't hate christians, I just don't like their reiligon and their beliefs. You know all that junk. It your choice, your life. Do with it what you see fit. I might not like it, but I won't judge you for it. -- Sent from my Palm Pre using Forums
yeah, like pixel said, everyones entitled to their own opinion. as long as you arent hurting anyone, or shoving it down anyones throat, its fine. and for the most part, athiests dont hate Christians as a whole. i cant speak for everyone, but unless you're a really bigoted extremist, i dont hate you. i dont hate until they have done something to wrong me.
Part of me agrees since the actual definition of marriage is specific to a man and a woman. However, I support gay marriage because honestly, would you want to be denied a ceremony uniting you and the love of your life forever? I think it should be equal opportunity, regardless of the word necessary to title it. ^.^ Anyway, homophobia is just something that takes time to get over--if you're trying anyway. I think the best thing is to just be comfortable around gays and tolerate it. You don't have to like it, but the people don't deserve to be hated solely because of their preference. Unfortunately, the phobia is so unreasonably strong in places that it's driven people into the pool of humanity's infinite cruelty. This article is one of far too many examples.
Well definitions of words change all the time. Why can't we just change the meaning of marriage. Haha That would never happen, I could only imagine the uproar. -- Sent from my Palm Pre using Forums
If anyone finds themselves in an argument with an anti-gay who uses the Bible as supporting evidence, feel free to bring these up. http://www.11points.com/Books/11_Things_The_Bible_Bans,_But_You_Do_Anyway Personally, I believe God loves everyone regardless of what they do, and anyone who says that God loves someone more or less because of their lifestyle cannot rightfully call themselves Christian.
Yeah, but you know how people are about the bible." Oh those are just guidelines blah blah blah." -- Sent from my Palm Pre using Forums
Religion has evolved, though it still tends to suffer from misinterpretation or opinion. http://www.calamitiesofnature.com/archive/?c=629
Well said. I have always said the difference between good and evil christians is that the former accepts that the bible is manmade and therefore falable. The latter is so convinced that the bible is the infalable word of God that they become a slave to it. In this way, some christians are my allies while others are my mortal enemy.
