Yeah, i would have to agree with this, as Freud would postulate, this denial comes in the form of distancing himself from the subject. In this case it certainly seems like he is trying to present a negative view of the show due to his lack of comfort with his own love of the ponies. If this is in fact the case then you should not react to him when he starts on you, in fact don't react at all, with any luck (and if my theory is correct) he with eventually come around. In any case don't let this get you down. If he is just trying to troll you the reaction is all he wants, don't give it. Cheer up, put it behind you and embrace your love of the program. The evidence to how much the show can affect people in a good way is right here on this site, people with honesty and a genuine caring attitude who will offer support. View attachment 2938
If he says "You're gay" or "You're a *squee!*" just say "don't get your hopes up" then leave. It will get him thinking for a bit and by the time he gets what you said you would be gone. Although make sure he starts it or else it's just unnecessary.
I would not suggest he ignores his brother completely, just on the subject of ponies or the show, still engage him in all other conversation. If he comes with genuine questions about the show then indulge him. View attachment 2939
my bro was a kind of hater, he's not hating anymore but he isn't a brony either. why ? well he heard the awsum music that comes from bronies or that is brony related and that did the job!
Nah, now we forgive his past hatred of it and give him a warm welcome to the herd, just like everyone else. Remember that a huge number of us here started out the same way.
YES, LET'S PAAARRTT---AAYYY!! PONY ROCKIN' IN THE HOOUUSEE TONIGHT, EVERYPONY JUST HAVE A GOOD TIIIMMEE! PONIES GONNA MAKE YA LOOOSEE YOUR MIND! AWESOME! I demand Pics. :derpe:
Awesome! Now get him to watch more of it with you, he'll go from thinking it's 'ok' to loving it. How could he not? Especially when Trixie shows up.
I'm glad it worked out in the end. For anyone else dealing with someone criticising the show, can I offer a little advice? Just leave them to it. Shrug, and go "Fair enough", even if you don't agree with them. My family occasionally make fun of me for liking a show aimed at people twenty years younger than me, but who cares? If you're actually getting repeatedly brutally victimised/violently assaulted because you like MLP, by all means, it's a genuine concern, but if someone's just like "LOL PONIES R GHEY", who cares? Their not liking ponies/not giving the series a chance shouldn't bother you, and doesn't detract from your enjoyment of the show. If you don't give them much of a response, they'll get bored and eventually drop it. I guess it's because one of the main criticisms I hear about the MLP fandom over all others is that apparently we can't cope if someone dislikes/has no interest in the show, and try to force the show on people. While that's not relevent in this particular case, it can happen; personally, I don't care if someone criticises the show, but you see the odd pony confession on Tumblr or whatnot in which someone is genuinely upset that someone they know doesn't want to watch the show. I just don't get it. I like what I like, and, if other people don't, that's their prerogative.
That is absolutely 100% correct! What I wish people would realise is that we bronies aren't doing any harm. Why bother us when we don't bother them? I mean no one I know has criticised someone because they have a Darth vader outfit. So why criticise us if we want to wear our favourite brony t shirt?
