If I grew up like my grandparents wanted. I'd be a christain that only listens to country music. I'm glad I found punk. I broke what they wanted, but I'm still respectful, kind, caring and all that stuff.

Kids need to stop looking up to people like 50 cent and kesha

Look up to ian mackaye or adam savage. Someone that is a good person.

    I dunno, I feel like I'm rambling.

No problem, he is a great man. One that truly deserves to be a role model.

I look up to Tory Belachi moreso than Adam, for more subtle reasons. But I love Adam and find him a great role model for other reasons.

He was just on the top of my mind at the time of the post.

I'm complaining about positive role models being "uncool"

While 50 cents rapping about pointless dribble is considered "cool"

I find Eminem to be better than most Rappers to look up to... but still, I find that almost all rappers are pretty crappy to look up to.

While I don't share his beliefs, I look up to Charles Darwin because of his intuitive nature and how he revolutionized how humans think about what our origins are.

Eminem is better then most, except when he's slim shady.

You said darwin, to most of todays kids they probably don't even know who that is and if they do he falls under the "uncool" banner.

I will always look up to my mom. She is 90% of my upbringing and the reason I have many virtues. I can't really speak of any idols via the media, really. Maybe... Jim Carrey or Bill Gates.

It doesn't have to be media. Just anyone that is a positive influence to your life.

I can't say my parents were the the best to look up to.

I can relate to that. While I liked my dad, he did bring unspeakable shame to my family. My brother is hard working, my uncle is an example of how application and force of will can result in dreams come true and that sometimes fate can take everything you worked for away in the blink of an eye. My sister is living proof people can change (though my beliefs are very complicated on that subject). Then there's my other sister who is an example of how you can destroy your own life through bad decisions.

I haven't particularly idolized friends in a positive way. I respect some for their beliefs, but it's usually minimal at best.

The media needs to have more positive role models. Great thinkers of our time would be great, even if many could only comprehend bites of their wisdom. I suppose I idolize Bill Gates for his views, contributions, and charity. Without him, and many of his background and innovation, the world would not be what it is today (positive).

My family isn't the best to look yp to. I don't wanna go into detail, but my father leaving my mother with two kids. We were both still young. When he can back, he was exactly running from the law.

My grandparents aren't the best either with all there racism and junk.

My brother doesn't care enough about life to wanna do anything.

Common is a good rapper to look up to. His raps aren't pointless mishmashes of words, his raps actually have feeling put into them. For example, I used to love H.E.R. is kind of about hip-hop was starting to get taken over by meaninglessness (this was 1994) and how it used to be where every line of every rap had meaning to it. Favorite rapper imho.

Cool, I'd say anything off of Resurrection (1994) or Like Water for Chocolate (1999) are good to listen to.

Well, somepony should probably bring this thread back on topic.

maybe Arizona just has better schools in my area, but I think the majority knows who Darwin is, even if they aren't familiar with the details of his theories. And AZ is known for slaughtering the education budget as a sacrificial lamb whenever the state legislation wants Fiesta Bowl tickets (now that they have to pay for them)

I think the stereotype is right on. For example, anyone watch season 6 of Dr. Who?

He's int he oval office when all the president's guards show up, gun's drawn. He's confide3nt of not being shot. Then River says, "They're Americans!" Suddenly he holds his hands up and says, "Don't shoot, we surrender!"

because, as all we know, Dr Who is a reliable source of knowledge and pure fact, completely pure of any jokes based on, say, stereotypes.

I don't see a button with, 'kind of the truth, but mostly speculation, with extreme bias, and fabrication thrown in there for good measure" *cough*thatshowournewssyestemworks*cough*

This is one of those things where the minority ruin it for the majority. Not just Americans are stereotyped, it's everyone: teenagers are vandals, Muslims are terrorists, Black people are drug dealers, women are only good for making sandwiches, Blondes are stupid, British people are fancy and they drink tea and eat crumpets (not such a bad stereotype), Asians are extremely strict (actually kind of true), I could carry on.

I think that America is a great country but it is those few Americans who are actually fat ass-holes who shoot everything and think that they're the best who ruin it. A lot of my friends hate Americans and I used to until I matured and became more open minded.

Also, just to be clear, those stereotypes are NOT my opinions.
