    This is a stereotype.

Stereotypes exist because they're born from a real concept pertaining to people at some point. Whether this concept can be applied to many or not is irrelevant to it becoming a stereotype. (Btw, the largest British stereotype is that they have bad teeth--which is actually the complete opposite.) I joke about stereotypes with friends and family all the time. None of us really care at all. Heck, some of us even exhibit traits of them.

The quoted stereotype comes from the fact that many Americans are indeed dangerously obese. This doesn't mean all of them are, just enough to notice it.

I'm not sure whether I came across without sounding racist but what's in the quote is basically what I meant. Even in a lot of countries, childhood obesity is a problem but America still ends up being the country of fat people, even though most of them aren't.

I'm guilty of enjoying racist jokes, but only if they stay as jokes. I don't see the point in insulting another race to prove that yours is better. We're all humans anyway.

We are the world's fattest nation. People really need to learn how to cook for themselves, but a huge issue is that unhealthy foods are cheaper. While you don't need organic foods to stay healthy, organic foods are generally 15%+ more expensive than regular food.

I also enjoy the more tasteless jokes in the context of them being *only* jokes. Obviously, I wouldn't use them in front of people I don't know or strangers. Only among friends who would understand.

America has become a catchall phrase for the United States because we're the most infamous country of the entire continent.

    America = U.S.
Other countries will be referred to with a cardinal direction designation (i.e. South America)

This is just how the nomenclature evolved. Like calling all adhesive bandages "band-aids" even though it is a brand name.

I think it is because Canadians and Americans didn't want people lumping them together when they used the term North America. *shrug*

That's my post for the month lol, laterz.

First of all, the geographic area you posted in the image were in fact TWO continents, not one. The upper is North America, and lower is South America and people are quite specific when refering to either one, or they care called "the Americas."

Second of all, it's funny, America is only the whole continent(s) when trying to disprove points or imply that someone is being exclusive, and yet when people complain about "America" they're only complaining about the United States. You (not literal you but figurative you) can't have it both ways. Plus I don't hear other countries using the term "America" very prevalently in their folk songs and national anthems very much...

So...isn't the story what people love about the show? Isn't it an American company, HASBRO that came up with the funding and, without the "capitalist greedy American corporation" the show would never even exist?

Most of Japanese animation, aside from voice acting and story is done in Korea now, so by your logic anime is Korean.

Ah, boosing egos with arguments where everyone is hyper-defensive about their favorite country of choice, or is otherwise being silly about stereotypes.

    I am amused. Proceed.

(But seriously, guys, this is going nowhere)

Well to be honest when I joined the forum supposedly espousing "Love and tolerance" and etc, I you know, was sort of expecting that. What I didn't expect was the one-sided bigotry. I figured people just didn't realize it so I made the topic. Then again, this is still the internet so I really shouldn't be too surprised.

Edit: oh and thanks a lot, now becuase of your signature I have that He-man vid playing in my head x_x

And thus, because a handful of members have stated their dislike for the country they live in (since most of the people who labled the USofA are in fact residents thereof), the rest of the over 1000 members are bigots.

    Nope, not stereotyping at all.

You are never safe on the internet. No matter how hard you try, you'll eventually end up encountering things like this. Also, to lighten up the mood, here's a picture:

Its more than a few. Every time there is a "oh woe is me, I got discriminated against becuase I like MLP" its never "what's wrong with those individual people who did this to you" its "what's wrong with America?"

So yes, its happening a lot and I'm sick of seeing it.

Bottom line is: America is full of bigots, but that doesn't make America a country OF bigots.
