Operation Appreciation

I don't think it's a matter of giving up on the show...It's just...--ugh, I just hate it, this whole thing...i feel hurt and I feel I'm going to be bashed no matte how I feel, and it won't change anything...I just can't with a straight face think about MLP right now...this all seems so wrong...

Why am I less of a fan for feeling hurt?! Why can't it all just go away...?

I cried when I watched the above video. And that made me realize something; I love Derpy. No matter what happens, no matter what her name is, even if she never speaks again, I love her. I am emotionally attached to this character, and am therefore grateful to Hasbro for making her possible. I look forward to everyone's favorite mailmare appearing in the background of future episodes.

In the end, it all comes down to love. I'm not angry at Hasbro. I respect their right to edit their material, even if they do it in a way that does not please me. That's because I love the show. I've discovered that I have some very strong feelings for this show, and especially its characters (Twilight Sparkle in particular). That's why I posted the link to another video below; it sums up my feelings.

So we shouldn't be hurt, and because we are hurt, and feel lied to after Hasbro said they wouldn't change her, and then are told it isn't a big deal...we are in the wrong?

I'll always love the show, but this was handled the wrong way by the higher ups just as much as those sending threats...at least tell me you understand our sadness right now.

There IS such a thing as blind support, you know...I love Studio B, but I cannot support them or whoever did this on THIS matter.

 

I don't think anyone's in the wrong :/ I think both sides are overreacting on all accounts, and that we should appreciate the show for what it is. It's supposed to bring people together, not apart. I love Derpy, but she was always a background pony. Still being a background pony won't change anything. They tried something, it didn't work. At least they tried.

 

Well said. However, being a Derpy lover, I would speak for those who value the character by saying that we want her around.

And indeed, it may be that many bronies have gone about this the wrong way, and instead of appreciating Hasbro, they have been ungrateful to the company that has brought us so much. I agree with the original video you posted in that we should show them that we care for them and for the material they produce.

But appreciation isn't something we should direct simply at Hasbro, Studio B, and their affiliates, but rather at everyone. That includes the character, as well as the Bronies we disagree with.

I love this fandom, I love its creators, I love its producers, I love its characters, and I love you guys, darn it. As Bronies, we stand or fall in any direction together. And I'd rather it be that way: together.

pixel, just follow your own heart. I know you don't need me to tell you that, but I consider you my friend, so I thought I'd say it anyway.

We both know love is important, and sharing it is just as important.

I agree. At the end of the day, we should all just sit down and enjoy the show.

 

I have faith that the community will be back to normal soon enough.

I'm just spitballing now, but think about this; it's whatever makes you feel that makes you alive, you know? Some people like to say that they achieved. That's great and everything, but it's not for me. I want to say that I felt something. And I do. I think that's what gives life, and all actions, their meaning.

 

While I appreciate everything the creators have done, it's still disappointing to see them caving in to political correctness.

 

Pixel, I'm sorry I sound butthurt, but to be honest that's what I've been called since this whole thing began...it upsets me, and as a person with Cerebral palsy I can tell you with all honesty that this has hurt me and many others very deeply. We all love Derpy and who she is. Respectfully, she is NOT just a background character to a lot of us. She's a symbol of someone who was imperfect but faced every day with a smile despite those imperfections. Someone who tries her best but messes up, and only wants the best of intentions.

I feel this is a sad state of affairs when our society decays to this point...what does it say then if they made a pony version of ME in a wheelchair? Do I offend? Can i not be used to touch peoples' lives just as effectively as anypony?

I will always love the show, Pixle. I just find this to be totally, totally in the wrong and I can't simply forget it. They could have handled this in a better way than just caving in...they could have said that that was not what Derpy represented, and be PROUD of her. If you take away her eyes and name, she isn't the same pony...sure, you can make her essentially a jinx, but the power of her character being different for more real, serious reasons like her eyes being crossed and being ridiculed for that, or being perceived as dumb---real people go through that...real people feel those emotions and felt a connection to Derpy due to that.

You are not a Derpy fan and that's cool, but, for the past few days I have had nothing but hardship over my missing her and so have many others...I understand it's a big issue right now and many are caught in it, but if you want people to respect that some don't care about it, then at the same time do not lump us all in the same boat as being simply unable to tolerate! It's not that we don't love the show...we just miss her and feel sad about it...Don't tackle it as if anyone who won't "Shut up and watch" is in the wrong...let the grievers grieve...we will watch the show, and I don't blame you for wanting unity, but unity needs understanding...I understand you, but you need to understand the side of the people who are hurt as well. It will be alright in the end, but a lot of us are just going to need some time, and a shoulder to cry on... I know I do.

 

I actually think that pixel just wants everyone who makes the show possible to feel appreciated because there was a lot of negative attention directed towards them. To him, I don't think Derpy is really the problem. He thinks the real problem is the negative way the fans have acted.

I have no grudge for what they did. Its a shame but I still love the show and I do appreaciate what studio b and hasbro has given us.
