Seriously, what is this? Where is it from? Who made it? Can we really call it "Art?"

I dunno, to me this picture depicts nothing but glorified potty humor. What happened to our fine arts, and why can't we have actual grace and beauty in our artist's works today? I feel that we've lost all sense of art appreciation, our sense of culture, and I'm quite sick of what is considered "Art" nowadays.

You got that right. Todays "art" is just a bunch of crap. No real meaning or feeling. My brother showed me a picture of a vertical line, it went for 30,000 dollars. That is so stupid.

Art is subjective. I feel it's just kind of mean to be like "what the crap?" Unless it's that paint splatter stuff. That I don't understand, but I don't go off on it. Just because you don't understand the point of it doesn't mean that it's any less art.

That being said, it's very well done. I'd love to see this in person someday. Do you know the name of it or where it's at? I want to look up more about it.

Unfortunatly, this is what happened to Art ^^

Now, i'm all for Art expressing yourself, but for something like this to sell for $140mil (roughly £88mil), then I feel I wasted my drawings as a kid

I found it on 7chan a while back. I don't know anything about it. It's very well done, without a doubt, but I find it disgusting, and I think it looks incredibly stupid.

Also, the above painting? I can make something similar with a box of crayons in three minutes. It's just sad that there are suckers out there willing to pay $140,000,000 dollars for it.

Did you do research and look into the artist's intended message, any context, or explanation? Art cannot truly communicate without proper context, and oftentimes pieces require a little bit more than simply looking at a photo of them to fully understand.
Now, I also get that you might be fully right, but, at the same time, this picture was clearly meant more for shock value and is without any sort of background here. I mean, maybe you went to the museum and saw it personally, but I certainly haven't, so I myself cannot make a judgement call.

Every piece of art, no matter if grotesque, beautiful, or just plain confusing, has a story. Now, sometimes that story is not that deep or meaningful, but it still is necessary to see the full picture.

It seems that Troll gave the Bull to many Bean Burritos,Causing the bull to slam the Troll into the wall with its UberFart.

You know if a Vertical line passes as art i should be a billionaire.

That Also gave me an idea for a life size WW2 Model Diorama.

Sounds like a bad (read 'typical') Spongebob episode.

I was kinda hoping to glean something by posting it here. It interests me enough to actually research it, but I have nothing to go on. 7chan already deleted the thread.

I wish I could help you, but I've never heard of it, and I can't imagine who the artist is or what the name would be. Hopefully someone will come along with a little background eventually, but it's difficult even to google properly, since I'm not really sure what is going on.

Then I have no other option than to believe that we, as a culture, have failed in acquiring good taste.

People are stupid enough to buy something like that?

    ...

I suddenly feel the urge to take advantage of this fact.

I think it's funny. Art didn't die, it just changed form, like it does every century or so. You can't really classify something with a set label as good or bad. Just because a select few aren't a fan of a certain piece doesn't mean it isn't art. Art is just art, if you get my gist. It just is, when it comes down to it, art is not good or bad, it simply is what it is.

Well, it's best not to jump to assumptions, particularly not negative ones. Granted, there is better evidence for your point to remain that has been pointed out here, but the weird seemingly farting bull simply will have to remain as evidence to neither side, at least until someone figures out exactly what it is. For example, it could be the Wall Street Bull, some other bull, or who knows what any of this actually means, it could mean nothing. But until it is proven that it does mean nothing, the better option is just to ignore it.

The sculpture is by the Chinese artist Chen Wenling and is titled "What You See Might Not Be Real" As for the story behind the artwork, well, I haven't found anything yet.

For now I'll simply say, don't judge a book by it's cover, or in this case a farting bull. Also, art isn't necessarily meant to be nice, wonderful or beautiful. Do I like it personally? No, not really, but then I don't have a lot to go by.

    EDIT:
The man being pinned to the wall is Bernie Madoff, "the admitted operator of a Ponzi scheme that is considered to be the largest financial fraud in U.S. history."

The Bull is representative of Wall Street, the Charging or Wall Street Bull, which is a sculpture of it's own accord.

"The sculpture was created by Chen Wenling to illustrate the global financial crisis. It is now on display in Beijing."

well that title makes absolutely no sense, but at least it opens an avenue to finding out more!
EDIT: apparently, the farting is actually a metaphorical pun based on the Chinese language. This is actually pretty interesting, particularly compared to Chen's other works, which I find a little monotone.
DOUBLEEDIT: I was right! The Bull is Wall Street! 10 points for Hufflepuff!

Art is subjective. "Eye of the beholder" and all that crap. Personally I get nothing from looking at that picture. But some may be like "Wow...that has got to be the best...flying farting bull slamming into a dude sculpture I've ever seen!" Plus those guys who make splatter art give themselves a reason to feel great, and a reason for me to cry because they get payed millions of dollars while I can't draw worth a damn. When will my lack of talent be realized?!
