I like the intent of Kony 2012, and its chosen method(s) are very effective. However, couldn't they have hired a PMC with the kind of money they've raised?
To be honest, at the beginning, when i started watching 'Kony 2012' i was thinking "This is going to be some big project". Then, i found out that it's about Joseph Kony... It was about catching and killing him. I was thinking that this was something humane, like an action of giving to charity for those who died and got tortured by this man, but no... This is about killing him. And not even 30% of the money goes into this action. The topic "Kony" has been around for quite a while, and I've known for this man since a couple of years ago. In the news (back in 2005, i think), they said that he's either dead or is going to die in a short period. I doubt that he survived. If he had survived, there would've been SOME KIND of news about him, i guess.
That's why I think they're scamming people. They don't even know if Kony is even alive and yet they are asking for money in which about 25% actually goes to Africa...
Honestly there's a dark side to the Kony 2012 campaign. First of all cue all the "I'm fixing Africa!" people who think they're suddenly great humanitarians because they wrote a tweet, changed their facebook profile picture and shared a video. Secondly this has been going on in Africa for years and there are tons of warlords there who use child soldiers its a mess. Also IC is giving money to the wrong thing, the Ugandan Army involved in many activities such as rape and looting (and Kony has left Uganda). So yes, I support bringing people like Kony to justice, but no I don't support the Kony 2012 campaign.
