Many months have passed since I came to be a brony. Through it, I have had no real problems with anyone I know. Nor anyone I don't know. My older brother on the other hand, finds it absurd and horrible. For every fight that he starts with me he almost always says that I'm gay for likeing a girls show. This is irrelevant as I know that its not a problem at all. Sexuality has nothing to do with it either and I have you guys to prove that. This past weekend my family came over to spend some time with us. As some of you may know, I went to a convention last saturday with them and bought a few things. One of those was a keychain. Sunday morning I get up early to go paintballing with my friends. After coming back I ate some food that my dad & stepmom left for me, then went to take a nap. Paintballing can really leave you sore : S A minutes later, they return from the grocery store that they went to. I walk into the kitchen and see my brother talking with my dad. I then hear my brother say something around the lines of "dad you gotta tell him that he shouldn't be buying that." I ask "who shouldn't buy what?" He pauses a bit and thats when I realized that they were talking about me. Apparently he saw the keychain that I bought. Not to mention the small poster too I'm sure many of you might think things from here go from bad to worst but you don't know my dad. There I was saying and asking him what was his problem with this. He keeps saying that its wrong and that hes worried that I'm going to be a f@g. My dad shrugs it off and tells him "Thats enough Jorge. You worry about your own life." My brother continues to argue but my father just didn't want to hear it nor did he want to see us fighting over something I liked. After that, I go upstairs to have a small chat with my dad. I tell him that I'm not gay and he says "I know you're not. Your brother is just acting stupid." So theres a small insight of my affairs with my brony life. Like I said, months have passed and my brother never approved that his brother likes watching MLP. I hope that after this he can finally get over it. I am very happy to know that my dad respects my liking of MLP but I am very disappointed and to some extent sad, with my brother for never understanding.
I Swear to Celestia that we share the same life. Folks don't care but my brother whines to me that this show is gay and gay for me to watch and shouldn't buy stuff from it. I have a poster i wish to hang on the way, since i framed it but my brother is the problem to it. I got figures, keychain, and shirts. I love my brother but to me, here become a loser to me. I wish he would just shut his mouth and keep his thoughts to himself. Today. he complained to me once again and you know what? It's getting old. He wish my folks took refuge of this but i told him that the only one cares is you. Then he leaves and I went back to my business. *edit* Sometimes i wish i had a sister then a brother.
None taken. I still say he got married for being a dumb@ss It does get old. Sometimes I wonder why he continues to complain. Its not like its going to make me change my mind True.
Well, it is quite possible that a brony COULD be of the homosexual orientation, but being a brony does not determine any personal features about a human being. Anyone of any race, religion, gender, etc can be one. Besides, you should be worrying about yourself, like your dad said. Your brother probably has things about him you can laugh at him back to.
Aside from the fact that there's nothing wrong with being gay, your brother shouldn't jump to conclusions about MLP:FiM and your sexuality. The two aren't correlated. "Oh no, a keychain and a poster. You're clearly a homosexual." I wonder what his reason really is. People seem to be afraid of things they don't understand, so maybe that has something to do with it. "Worry about your own life" is exactly what my dad used to say to me and my brother. To be clear, I'm the older brother, and my younger brother doesn't like MLP one bit (haha), though he seems to put up with it for my sake. Your dad sounds like a nice guy. My mom is the same way.
thank you for your thoughts about this. I just find it hard why he thinks this way. My relationship with him has deteriorated alot. I really wish to finish my career soon to get out of here and go live on my own. I have a year and a half left to go. Then I'll show him who has a life. @u-madbrony I hardly know anything about him anymore. He wasn't like this from an early beginning. It was after he got a girlfriend when he started to be very mean to me.
Probably because he has gf, he thinks better than you, and thinks because he can "prove" he's straight has the right to call you a *squee!*.
Very glad to hear that your dad is supportive. I think your brother is being more immature than he is serious. In reality, he probably couldn't care less, but finds humor in terrorizing you over liking ponies (classic bully). As your father said, your brother is being stupid and immature. He'll have to eventually get over it, and until he does, it should be comforting that your father is supportive.
it is and I couldn't be more happier. @radaboy Hes married now but it wasn't a marriage that I and everyone in my family are proud of.
Hopefully your brother gets over it. There is nothing wrong with liking MLP:FIM and you are not gay for liking it. Good thing you have a parent that supports you, or else your life could be pretty rough.
Haters gonna hate, ponies gonna pwn. Your brother is probably homophobic, which, in most cases, would mean he's afraid of admitting who he really is. His own sexuality aside, I think he's jealous of you being comfortable with your own interests, and he wants to find any way you can to put you down. So for that, I think your dad is wise. And awesome. For he knows that your brother should mind his own business, and quit acting like his *squee!* don't stink.
Like I said in "The Gay Thread," sexuality should have no impact on being friends with people. There's that cool Dr. Seuss (I think) quote about "people that mind don't matter and people that matter don't mind." Tell your brother to stop looking out for you, since that what it seems like he's really trying to do--in a way.
I put prove in parentheses because maybe he's a closeted gay who is ashamed of his sexuality, so he has a girlfriend to try and prove to everybody that he isn't gay. Maybe it makes him feel better for him to call you a *squee!* because he would feel better that he's not the only gay guy in his family and he just wants to feel normal. You know what I mean? (Mom, you taught me well in the ways of psychology)
Or he's being your average stereotypical teen with nothing better to do but poke fun at the various exploits people have.
Your dad's awesome and your bro's being a tool. I find my situation with my best friend to be amusing and ironic. I'm straight and am a full-on brony, and he's very much gay/bisexual and HATES ponies. xD
