(still no site discussion forum, also note that normal users can't post in bug reports atm) Well that's all well and good, but the problem is that most people don't see the rules until after they've made their profile, evidenced by this user: http://www.everypony.com/forums/member.php?9-Fluttershy Hasn't posted since creating the account, but it's obvious that the rules don't really have much of an effect on name creation until after they've made it. Any way you can get it to show that rule before they create an account? They'll probably be more cases like this if not, and it's probably going to be a pain to clean up the accounts that take a main name/explain why you're changing their name to them after they've taken it.
I can do one of two things, a. do re-directing stuff or b. make ghost accounts for the six main chars (so no one else can). Or c... I could just use VB's inbuilt username limiting function :derpe: (unless I imagined that?)
If there's no name limiting function the ghost account thing is probably the easiest You should also be more defined as to how it can be though Would something like: Rainbow D4sh be accepted? What about: RnbwDsh Or something more creative: Rainbow Crash Really I guess the question is, can no one take them as they are, spelled correctly only, or in general? To what extent is the rule enforced, that should be more clear.
The above or combinations of such are illegal within the vb system as of now R4inbow D45h is fine - I think the point behind it is if it's spelt correctly (seeing as it's a pony forum) it may give a psychological impression that the bearer may be a staff member or important figure, which may not be the case. It's not uncommon for online game interfaces and community's to do that (reserve 'unique' names for privileged individuals).
http://www.everypony.com/forums/member.php?9-Fluttershy So is anything going to be done about this account? Also gotta hate it when someone takes a name and then never posts, it's a bit of a waste really - especially when there's other people that'd want that name and be active too
There's another user with the same IP, so I don't see the point in why to keep him "alive". Still need to find a solution with Grey about this matter. *I think we should create the "shadow" profiles of the main cast*
Well the names are already limited as Grey said, this was created before that was put in - I'm guessing the only way to get them now is to either have had them before or have an Admin change your name to one. So really all that needs to be done is the name changed on that specific account.
Hmm. I think you can illegalize usernames, but it may go and disallow usernames with that word in it... Probably only at the beginning though, if that's going to be the case. EDIT: As an example, if "Rarity" is illicit, "Rarity123" wouldn't work. But this may not be.
Yup already done, ugh no you can't have a username containing an illegal one either =/ But it's all good, about Fluttershy - I'll contact them give them a week to reply.
