Hello every pony, I've changed my diet to start losing weight and am on my 3rd week and have been exercising for the past 2 wks and have lost 2inches in my waist. I've been looking for a good online support group, but I simply couldn't find the right fit. Until I realized, why search for a new community when you've got plenty of brony friends, and I was just wondering, are there any other bronies who are dieting and exercising too? Or perhaps you've been thinking about it? How about we support each other and help each other out. I'm sure there are plenty of fellow bronies that made a new years resolution to eat better and exercise. If you've been trying to lose weight or simply improving your lifestyle by eating better how about you post your progress and we can all help each other out. Also, post what inspires you to push yourself to work harder. I finally decided to start exercising and eating better after I hit my highest weight ever from 5yrs ago when I was 120lbs. I've got chronic lung problems which makes exercising hard but in 2007 I fractured my back and have been dealing with chronic pain ever since. I haven't been able to exercise and my diet has gone downhill. I gained about 80lbs from being in bed and not able to get up and do much. I started feeling more pain because of the extra weight and at the beginning of the month I finally had enough. I started out with changing my diet and doing some tai chi and my doctor upped my medication and gave me some exercises to strengthen my back. Now I'm working on doing some Taebo and Ultimate Abs. When I think about quitting I think about Rainbow Dash yelling "FIVE MORE, YOUR NO QUITTER!"
Starting small helps. I started walking my dog an extra 20 mins a day so he would get walked a full hour and so I could build up to more intensive workouts. You could try doing something basic, like the exercises they'd have you do in grade school; 10 sit ups, 10 push ups, 10 jumping jacks and 10 squat jumps (squat then jump up and repeat) and do that and make it part of your routine along with walking for 15mins. Then it wont be to challenging and overwhelming to the point you wont do it. My problem is, I become obsessive to the point I end up hurting myself. Before I hurt my back I worked out 3x a day but during the summer I'd work out 5x a day and I'd end up hurting myself like coughing up blood or becoming dehydrated. <--yes, I'm crazy.
I cant do push ups im weak =/ i can do squats and jumping jacks =3 i got rid of 10.5 [i think] last year
My friend tried to do some pushups...instead she just laid face first in the floor and laid there for a few minutes before declaring 'DONE!' and asking to go get something to eat.
My refrigerator and stove gonna go im soo sad im gonna have to do the old way to cook with fire T_T thats why im gonna grow a garden god bless my family P.S i have bad grammer -_-
Runners and swimmers, let us band together to help this brony reach their goal. Hey what's up, it sounds like you're doing a good job with this, but I'd like to give my advice anyway. 2 years ago I used to be pretty overweight, gym class would leave me exhausted and I'd find myself gasping for breath just from walking up the stairs. Sick of it, I began a small exercise program to get myself fit and drop a significant amount of weight. I started running laps around the block, situps, pushups, the whole shebang. I even joined the track team as a way of improving my stamina. 2 years later I've dropped 50 pounds, I've run half marathons, I'm one of the best Cross country runners in my school, and I always win the grade wide mile run. Here are a few things I've learned that might benefit you: -Don't try to do everything all at once. Instead of 3 workouts a day you should focus on less frequent but longer workouts. Do a lap or two around the block and work your way up from there. Keep in mind many people injure the self by doing too much too fast. Listen to your body to avoid this. -Consistency is key, you should try working out at least once a day excluding one rest day per week. This applies for cardio, but for lifting you want to take a break every few days. Your pushups and situps should be done after your run as a sufficient cool down. -Motivation will be hard to come by. Don't do this for anybody but yourself. -Invest in some good running shoes. Some good brands are Brooks, Nike, and New Balance. If you need any more information regarding running feel free to ask, I'm sure a swimmer will post advice soon and with the Summer approaching it'd be great to swim as well.
I know some people who lost a bunch of weight on a ketogenic diet. It's probably the easiest diet to follow if you like meat, butter, and other sorts of food that other diets are lean on. Check out http://www.reddit.com/r/keto.
If exercising decently is too hard on your body, I recommend vegetable/fruit shakes/smoothies/etc. There's a documentary that I believe was posted here with a title like "Sick, Tired, and Dying" about a guy who loses massive amounts of weight by drinking some healthy vegetable blend thingy for a while. While it's not exactly the greatest tasting thing, no one complains it tastes bad. I don't really believe in the concept of dieting as opposed to simply eating healthier, but that doesn't mean its principles don't work. You have to persevere and research it, though.
I'm not an expert of weight loss but if dieting is too hard, just slowly reduce the amount you eat. Don't deprive your body, just eat in moderation. If you can control yourself, you lose the weight in no time.
Not entirely true. A great way to lose weight is to increase your metabolism which can be accomplished 3 ways. -Eat less but more often -Exercise -Sit in uncomfortable temperatures; homeostasis is tiring.
Yeah I tolf you I wasn't an expert. I would've suggested increasing metabolism but I didn't know that you could. I should be fat but I guess I have a high metabolism.
My goal for this year is to start exercising more and to control my food intake. I'm already really good about eating the rainbow of vegetables, and healthy nutritious things. My problem is a lack of moderation. I'll admit, I'm severely overweight. Like... I could lose half of my body weight and still be considered overweight. I do like being a plus size lady though. I have a healthy self-esteem about my body currently. However, I know it's not healthy to be this size. So I'm going to fix it. I had planned to get out doing stuff as a New Year's resolution, but then my surgery happened and so I'm still a couple weeks away from getting my weight restriction lifted. However, my doctor has okayed me for normal activities and going back to work and stuff, so I just have to wait for the weather to stop being... Washington-y. My best friend is about a week and a half from delivering her baby, and we have plans to walk the lake (it's a man-made thing, exactly 3 miles around) together once she's feeling up to it. And my bike is just sitting there waiting for me. I don't live in the super best area, so I have to be a little careful about when and where I go. My particular street is good, but the surrounding ones are full of tweaker homeless people who are known to pull knives on people lol. I already had an organ removed this month, I don't need to get stabbed on top of that xD My weight loss goal for now is an even 100 pounds. I'll go from there =) Edit: I have the world's slowest metabolism too. I need to work on increasing it ^_^ I'm hopeful on this. And it helps to have such an awesome built-in support group.
I bet it does =B Part of me is tempted to do the C25K (it's a 9 week running thing that kind of trains you up from couch potato to running 3 miles several times a week), but I have bad knees from being so overweight. So I figured I'd just ride my bike instead. At least until I've dropped a little weight. Then I can take up running/jogging. I like the idea of aiming more for distance/endurance than speed.
