If Griffins are added, I'd say any animal that appears as sentient beings should be allowed as well: Donkey, Zebra, Draconequus, Dragon, Mule, etc.
The problem then of course is where do you stop? We are not going to be adding every single race of creature to appear in MLP.
I think you should just add the most popular creatures 'n' stuff. No one's gonna want to be a squirrel, for example, and they're not a big influence on the story... But Dragons and (a) Draconequus play a relatively large role in Equestria, and they're quite popular among the fandom too.
I guess a "other" or something like "type in your custom gender/species/w/e" might be a good solution, though, i can totally see how some of you might disagree. I, for one, would welcome to use "other" instead of those listed, since i am not really that anymore into Pony roleplay w/e.
Hmmm... ^ This. That'd be awesome, and so helpful! T'would solve so many problems... I do, however, still feel that Dragons should be added, due to them playing quite a large role in Equestria.

An 'other' tag does get around lots of problems with OC, in that MLP allows for the potential existence of all mythological creatures on top of anything and everything else that gets created from scratch, like Cyberponies. I'm dubious about it being abused. My experience of this site is small but Everypony seems well behaved enough not to do something stupid with an 'other' tag.
I actually suggested two tags above; "other" and "custom". The one you're talking about is "custom". The "other" tag (when selected) would say "other" next to the 'gender/species' under your avatar. The Custom one would enable you to type out your own species. The problem with the "custom" tag would be that most would switch over to it and use it in a weird way. I (probably) would type in something like "Draenei (m)", someone else would "Robot (genderless)", and a third guy would be like "lol (trollface)" and all hell would break loose, losing the point of this site being based on ponies. We all have other likings than ponies, many of us have many that they even prefer over ponies (I do, for instance) and would base their account on that thing if we enabled the "custom" tag. The only way i can see this being installed, though, is if we added a rule that strictly forbid using this tag in such a way but rather a way that is either directly or in some other shape/form bonded to the universe of MLP.
