This has likely been discussed before, either here or on other poni boards across the 'Net. But I wanted to post it here just to get some opinions. It's sometime in the future. After several mind-blowing seasons, it's time for Friendship is Magic series to end. No new episodes are made, and merchandise from G4 stops being produced. Hasbro soon puts forth ideas for G5 or puts MLP on hold. After enchanting millions around the world, the series is left to reruns and warm memories. But what about the massive crowd of Bronies? What are we to do once the show ends and the curtain falls? It's not something I want to think about at all, but it must be considered. So, after FiM gracefully bows out after [hopefully] several more awesome seasons, what do you plan to do? For myself, I feel strongly that I will always love the show, the fan community, and the memories for the rest of my life. Although there won't be new episodes, the fanart and fanfics - indeed the heart of the show - will continue for a very long time. And with any luck, the fan blogs, boards, forums, news sites, etc. will still sail along, with bronies discussing the series for years and years. I'll be extremely sad when it ends, undoubtedly, but I will never stop loving the show even decades after G4 ends. The fire that has been started by MLP:FiM shall never be quenched. Brony for life!
Remember, My Little Pony has been going since the 80s. There is no way Hasbro will ignore the gigantic success that was Friendship is Magic, and the likes of Lauren Faust will be recognized as a cause. Even after G4 ends, who's to say G5 won't be just as awesome? I can hardly see them just steamrollering over Friendship is Magic and reverting back to the now outdated style of ponies. I expect to see similar to what we have now.
This is a good question, and I'll do it like I do with all my shows from my youth - Let the ship sail forth, for I have come to the dock I was sailing towards - the end of this show. I'll pick a new ship, and stick with it for the next few years. I think I'll reach my maturity before this show ends, and so this show will most likely present a chapter in my life I call "The Teenage-hood : The end of Childhood". I know once in a while I'll shed a tear for the good ol' time, and think about it. The name "My Little Pony - Friendship is Magic" would be carved in my heart for centuries to come afterwards. The best thing is I'll remember, I'll breathe, and I'll know that I am the from the group of Bronies that watched this show before the whole massive pony craze even relatively began. I must say, this is ironic, because just now I have been thinking about my future as in a whole - I even did a piece of myself aging in photoshop. This question came at the perfect time.
Eh, I'll live. I'll get into and out of it during the next few possible seasons and I'll give G5 a chance. If that sucks, then oh well.
Jaret brought up a good point. MLP as we know it won't last forever. It'll change, just as we will change over the years. It's important to take in the "now", and fully enjoy what we have at this moment. Then, when something new comes along, we can enjoy that with a new outlook. Our enjoyment for the things we loved will never die out just because it ended. That's true for any dedicated fandom. As long as we have the memories of why we loved this show, MLP isn't going anywhere.
Good points all. I agree with Luprony's statement that Hasbro will probably keep the rabid success of FiM/G4 in mind and try to make future generations just as good... as, after all, they have to do whatever will give them the most financial return. Perhaps, then, we will find the (eventual) G5 to be appealing as well. And yes. We must all move on one day, but the awesome memories will never fade, and there will always be fan-media and reruns. Like Pinkie would likely say in such a situation, every party has to end… but as long as everypony had fun, it was a good party, yeah?
If you think about it, for everything that had a fanbase, when the craze comes to an end there's usually still a small group that is still into the craze afterwards. Over a span of decades, the fanbase would stay persistent. However, humans usually live up to around 45-104, depending on the local life expectancies. Over the course of a few centuries, entirely new technology will exist, and the Internet will either be abandoned or more prominent than ever. In my opinion, what I see happening is 4chan still existing, still spawning memes, and all the current memes being archived in Know Your Meme as the "origionals". But hey, live life to the fullest, and soak in the awesome while you can. As for if I get to see what happens afterwards, well, that'll depend on advances in memory storage tech.
Good question - what when the curtain falls? Hm. By then I'll have probably moved on, but the generation will always be endeared to my heart. That's about all I can say.
I'm trying not to be unrealisticly optimistic. But I hope that by the time MLP comes to and end the world will have changed for the better and people will have changed to because more like the morals of the elements of harmony and colours will stop having genders attached to them. I have been writing a daily blog for 2 weeks now and I would love to see me continue to make daily blogs for several seasons. It's hard for me to predict what will happen after. I have never fanned out over something this hard. The closest things i've been over the top into is Stargate and Final Fantasy. But even they didn't have such an awesome community attached to them and morals. I guess I will will live life as I did before I found MLP. I guess I will be bored most of the time.
i dont really know whatll do afterwards, perhaps il check out g5,though sadly it can nver be the same as fim
I will check out G5. I would also watch FiM over and over again. I'd also hang around as long as possible in the communities
well, fact is that MLP:FiM will end oneday. but that doesn't mean that magic has to stop there. After MLP:FiM, i'm sure there will be lot of other great shows that will look up to MLP. as for fans, well, we'll be MLP fans for resz of our life's, won't we? As far as I know, Chowder is dead cartoon (over), but still there are lot of fans, and fanart made, and fanfics. I'm sure MLP will also have alive community sometime after show ends. even then, bronies will probably meet up again on some other show that will be made in future. Like, take Miles24, FrankT and me: all 3 of us are Tails fans and have met in Tails fan community (which is also very friendly in general), and again, all 3 of us became bronies and ended up here again.
Nothing is truly gone as long as it lives on in someone's memory. I'll definitely continue to watch the reruns of the show once it ends, and I'd certainly see what G5 has in store when it comes out. I'll continue to remain on this site as well, chatting with my fellow bronies as we reminisce about the show. More than likely I'll find a group of people I know to gather and play the tabletop RP once it gets finalized and finished for MLP:FiM.
I usually end up realising I have another focal point on an issue, so don't be confused if I post again. As a gamer, I have always found myself moving in phases, beginning in my early years playing nothing but Pokémon on a Gameboy SP. Now, I stand before you all today as a cross-platform gamer, enjoying titles of all platforms, PC, PS3, XBox, and any Nintendo console. So, if my bronidom is nothing but a short phase, then I guess I'll find something even better that I haven't realised yet, and that thing will have slowly pulled me out of bronidom. But, it appears I never completely abandon something. I started playing on SPs when I was around 5 or 6. I am now 14, and I fancy a little Gameboy every now and then. So, I wouldn't be surprised if I move over completely to sitcoms and Doctor Who and begin to fancy a bit of FiM every now and then.
I know ill stay dedicated for years after it dies regardless of what happens. So ima just watch and live in the now and let things come as they please cause i know i personally wont ever let my memory die.
I suppose i'll check out these other apparently good shows I used to always snob. Such as Spongebob and Powerpuff girls.
heres my opinion on the two: 1.spongebb,beggining epsiodes were funny, now its all jokes that want you to bang your head against a wall 2.powerpuff girls, once again ok for the first few epsiodes, though in my opinion its a bit too repetitive i would recommend samurai jack
heh, funnily enough, I've heard several conversion stories that involve lovers of Samurai Jack. This show is so damn manly!
