I'd have been like that in school. But also, those same people would likely have already been ridiculing me for something else, so I might not have cared.
I'm sensing that's the reason why My Little Pony has so few likes (around 200k) in Facebook. Many don't want people to find out they like MLP.
It's sad and pathetic, I know. But there are some people that just can't see passed their own noses, and that's their own unfortunate problem.
You shouldn't be, and it's a sad fact of life that people will be discriminated against for inexcusable reasons. I hope that one day communities such as these will help your confidence grow with being more open about your hobbies.
Well, I have been becoming more confident, but very slowly. When I first discovered ponies I had thought I was the creepiest guy ever. Then I discovered this fantastic community. I think that I could go public about being a brony in college because it's a different atmosphere there and most people stick to their own thing. High School is much different. There's so much social bullcrap. Thank god my senior year is almost done!!!
I see what you mean, I go to a school which consists primarily of close-minded dicks where the words "chivalry" and "manners" are foreign concepts.
I understand well, Mike. I'd have been too scared to say anything in high school. Especially senior year. That was the year I finally befriended the people who had tormented me since middle school. They were pretty cool people once they stopped picking on me for arbitrary reasons.
Tell me about it Mike. I go to an all boy school full of people with social or anger problems.... I'm NEVER telling them.... I feel shame
Oh, college is wonderful for meeting the right people that compliment you. I've acquired some of the best friends through college, and regardless of who I am, they don't put me down for it, especially as we all know how it feels to be oppressed by an enclosed society. If you find those people, you will be open and comfortable in your environment and you will have some of the best years of your life with their company and support! Don't be disheartened, highschool was a horrible period of my life, but it made me into a strong, determined person and now I have many wonderful people in my life. I'm sure you'll be absolutely fine! *Hugs*
Oh no! That's awful...:< Just remember that you have everypony here to offer advice and support, and I'm especially available if you ever need to confide in a fellow Pegasus~ *hugs*
Aw, thanks for that *hugs*. I'm very excited to college and meeting new people. Everyone is so high strung and mean in high school it's ridiculous. Not to mention that my first class is filled with about 6 scumbag judgmental bullies. If they saw a pony shirt on me they honestly would probably beat the *squee!* out of me. First day in college, I will wear a Pinkie Pie shirt and I won't even care.
Yeah, but people need to realize that its in EVERY freaking fandom. I don't get why they just single out bronies for being the hub of all R34 content.
That may be, but as I included in the original post, the suggestive (including R34) related content is a part of the internet and is present in MANY other popular cartoons. Not just this one. It doesn't matter what branch of brony you are; If it's not hurting anyone, then there shouldn't be a problem. < This generation is supposedly far more liberal than older generations, and this type of content has been around for years now and will most likely stay. It's easily avoided/ignored.
Ah, college. That was a lovely time for socializing, and I don't even socialize. I went through my normal day-to-day routine, hanging out and watching anime in the common room of the school. I noticed a group of peaple would always bring a TV and play Super Smash Bros. Melee on it. Having been a fan of the game before, I got interested and approached them. From then on I became friendly acquaintances with all of them, and even friends with some. Two of them became two of my best friends ever that i still hang out with regularly (well, one lives in Arizona now, but I hang with him whenever he comes to visit). One of them started to join me in watching anime when it wasn't his turn and we became fast anime friends, and have since discovered very similar taste in other things as well. The other is amazing a Guitar Hero/Rock Band and our friendship started with me watching him and asking if I could have a go. From then on he started inviting me over to his house, and the rest is history. This guy also hates ponies, so that'll be...interesting next time he comes to visit. I met another of my good friends through the Guitar Hero friend. These guys were GODS at Melee, too, btw. Like, nation tournament level good. I was one of the worst players in the group, but as such, still above average. xD
