Since Hasbro is so awesome to us bronies, they love putting in little easter eggs obviously not intended for the target audience. A few obvious examples being "looks like the punch has been...Spiked!" in Owls Well that Ends Well; Little-Applejack being called Appletini in Bridle Gossip, and probably most infamously the Big Lebowski reference in Cutie Pox. Anyway, point of this thread is to discuss any Innuendos, References or other easter eggs made for bronies. Note: I didn't see a thread like this so I made one, if it already exists, mods, please delete.
The following isn't really "pop culture" but are still some interesting references. The cherry sorting scene in The Last Roundup is a reference to the chocolate factory scene in I Love Lucy: http://youtu.be/8NPzLBSBzPI Pinkie's singing here (http://youtu.be/igj26eL1hFM) references the broadway musical Little Johnny Jones song "The Yankee Doodle boy" (http://youtu.be/2R1jiVcIGcg)
not to mention James Bond scene in MMMMistery on friendship express http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bVSS54MZZjM
Oh yes, the entire episode was FILLED with references. Tied to a railroad track, the cake on the conveyor belt moving toward the spinning blade. And the biggest one being Twilight as Sherlock Holmes and Pinkie as Watson (or the other way around, whichever you see fit). Twilight makes best Sherlock though.
Does Pound Cake crawling on the ceiling count as an exorcist reference? I know that if his head turned 360 degrees, it would've been. Don't forget the King Kong reference in "Secret of my Excess" and the Scooby Doo/Benny Hill style chase scene in "A Bird in the Hoof"
Are we all forgetting probably one of the biggest references in the show? ^ If a character based from a still running sci-fi TV show isn't a massive pop culture reference, I don't know what is :derpe:
I know a bit of an Easter egg I guess. In Hearts and hooves day Big Mac pulls an entire house and then some, BUT in MMMystery on the friendship express he cant carry a cake :derpe:
There's a Lion King refference in Over a barrel (I think that's the right episode) It is a parody of Mufasa's death scene
Here is a video of them side by side.
A lot of you are probably too young to know who she is, but Mulia Mild from MMMystery on the Friendship Express is Julia Child! <3 I mentioned that on the thread for that episode though. But Julia Child is awesome enough to warrant talking about multiple times =)
I'm sure EVERYPONY knows this one. Cider is alchoholic :Trollestia: And Silver Spoon in Family appreciation day is not the real one. Check out her actually being nice! Not Silver Spoon!
But apple cider apparently, at least in the US, is not. Still, if you look at the ponies' faces that drink it...
During the Bison episode as braeburn is showing them around town an inebriated stallion is thrown out of a saloon. The saloon keeper says "Enough salt for you, today!" Implying salt is an intoxicant to ponies.
.....In real life, ponies and horses have salt licks in thier stalls to keep up the intake of salt/vitamns they had in nature I think the ref in that scene is just a harmless punny sub for actual beer ; )
what about in episode 26 season 1 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=11H3jpBqZSs but everypony knows this one but it's a fun alcoholic reference
Actually, i doubt the resemblences were intentional. Bronies made it happen, not Hasbro. MLP is Canadian.
