It may not be the driving force behind your activity, but, just as with the rep system, many people seem to be motivated by it more so than by any other element.

I believe that the post count SHOULD be removed from the GTC, if only because it is currently an exception to the "useless thread" rule, and because, by precedent, we tend to take the option of less spam, not more options.

I may not agree with the choice of options, but precedent is a better way to build laws.

To the users who say that post count is just a number and nothing more, I have one question.

    Why do you care?

If it's just a number then it should in no way influence the way you view another member. If a member likes to watch their number go up why deny them that because you don't like it. This is different then the rep issue, rep clearly made others look "better" then others. Back to my question, why do you care if it's nothing more then a number.

Can't you make a option to hide post count like we had for rep?

The whole reverse psychology thing doesn't really apply here. The same can be said in reverse. 'If you don't care about post counts, why do you want them to still be there?'

Spam is indeed a major problem. Also, I check in on the GCT more often than you think.
As a test, I posted a video as the first post of a new page. It was gone in 5 minutes and 33 seconds, swallowed by the new page.

Honestly, if people want the post count to stay there and will stop posting there just so that post-count can count elsewhere, I question the individual's sanity for mewling over a stupid topic such as this.

The GCT is as useless as the forum games, and therefore it should be treated as such. This brings up the whole social hierarchy thing again (Except to a lesser extent than rep... except I brought that up and look what happened.) where some newer members will without a doubt go to the people who have posted more often than others for advice/chat/whatever. I know of at least 3 people who don't have much post count but say the most intelligent stuff on this site.

Seriously. Get a grip guys. If this irks you -that- much, you should probably find a different forum to chat on, to be blunt.

I don't think that vBulletin has an option to hide post counts per individual choice. I believe it's all or nothing in regards to Post Count. I'll ask Catalyst about this on a forum I used to run.

And to be blunt, when has anyone that has ever said something -smart- on the GCT ever gotten ANY attention for more than 5 posts until some guy says 'PINEAPPLES!213!' and randomness ensues?

The GCT is a place where uselessness reigns.

You must not use the GCT much then. While yes some members make random posts that amount to nothing others have serious conversations on it. Have you ever used the thread late at night. Between 1am-5am EST, the conversations get a lot more serious.

Maybe we could make a "I'm super cereal chat thread" where only the serious issue are talked about.

My sleep counter reaches 1.00 @ around midnight, so I'm not up that late.
    ...Too much.

Anyways, a 'serious discussion' subsection has already been suggested, people didn't like it so much.

It really doesn't irk me, heh. I'm just saying that it's a source of dismay to some people. I'm rather neutral on the subject, I'd just prefer to have it gone so nobody will complain about people spam-posting there later.

My idea was a joke, Hence the name I'm super cereal.

May a say that there have been a few threads that turned into mini general chat threads. The harley series and the Ventirlo thread. Those threads only had a few members in them though.

The latter thread was spammed specifically -for- post count to tie into rep. See the chain here?

    The Harley series... god why did you remind me... ;~;
    Harley
    I miss you ;~;

    SORRY off topic

At least constructive things were said in Harley's threads sometimes and WEREN'T lost every 7 minutes.
Seriously, it just shouldn't add to post count, and if you guys feel that your posts are 'useless' because of that
    Well
Hahahaha... It gives me a chuckle...

Let's also not forget the onslaught of Lugia threads...
I just realized that I sound like a real jerk here...

Why is this still an issue.

Can we just all agree that post count is inconsequential, and if you disagree, then you should probably re-evaluate your sources of confidence.

I mean, sure, I understand that some people find confidence in having many posts. However, do you really think that having a high post count is related as to how much you contributed? We had this discussion way back when Lupr was around.

After thinking for a bit, I've changed my mind. Things should stay the same.

Post count doesn't really mean much to me anyway. I think that I spend most of my time here, although my post count doesn't reflect that. To others, it does mean something. Let them have what, it's not really affecting anyone else.

Also, the GCT can be helpful/productive sometimes. I've learnt a lot from it.

Well the harley thread was way off topic, it was an art thread not a chat thread. Did any one complain? no. yes the vent thread did the same thing, it only got closed because of DRD insulting you. If you didn't like the thread bombing done by lugia, what do you think will happen if people still want a post count and GCT doesn't offer it. I foresee threads being made for everything.

And yet all of Lugia's threads were, in some way, shape or form, HERE'S THE MAGIC WORD EVERYPONY!
    SAY IT ALL TOGETHER NOW!
    COOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONSTRUCTIIIIIIIIIIIIIVE!

The useless threads that would sprout from the closing/non-post counting of the GCT would be properly and efficiently locked by the mods.
    Need I say more?

If they were constructive, why do you care? I never posted in any of them, wanna know why. because they didn't interest me. I looked in one. So it seems we've gone from GCT adding to post count to we're closing the GCT.

Think harder about this Pixel, you aren't capturing what I'm trying to say properly...
I'm saying: Any people who post threads BECAUSE of the removal of post-counts in the GCT that were UNCONSTRUCTIVE would be locked.

Don't tell me to think harder

    pick better words

Isn't it up to the mods to decide on what is constructive and nonconstructive. We got 2 new ones, maybe they view constructive different then ePONY. Is the what are you listening to thread constructive, it adds to post count and it's just users posting random music.

Before I pack my bags and go, the GCT is nothing but unconstructive...
    'TwiDash!'
    'Yeah, Twidash is awesome lulz'
'*Random Rubberfruit Video that is completely ignored*'
    'Xan is my Waifu'
    'Saikyo is an idiot ololol'
    '*Insert DanSze Trolling Here*'
'*Random Rant that nobody pays attention to*'
    '*Complaining*'
    'Hai Guys'
    'Hai!'
    'Hai there *INSERT NAME HERE'

    That's the typical GCT structure.
Does that seem, in any way, shape or form, constructive?
