Hello fillies and gentlecolts, ladies and gentlemen. This is Foxytail, your community administrator. I throw that title around a lot, but often I find that many do not know what it means, or know what I do. I'm going to lay it clear and explain why I'm posting this. I am the community manager. It's my job to talk to the community, take in ideas and complaints from the community, making sure your voices are heard. I admit, perhaps I haven't been as active as I could have been. I do talk in skype conversations with a number of you, but as a whole I've been not too active on the site while I deal with site and staff issues and juggle school and personal projects in that mix. I hope to change this, and this is part of it. I'm going to make a weekly announcement about issues, concerns, praise and general ideas I have about the site and I hope that you ponies, people and internet dwellers take this chance to tell me what you think, to talk to me, message me or post below about how you feel about the site, the staff or myself. Ask any of the staff or my friends on the site and they will tell you I'm among the friendliest people you could meet, so I sincerely hope that you do not feel intimidated or afraid that I won't talk to you. I will do my very best effort to reply to and talk to anyone who wishes to talk to me. However, with me being just one pretty pink pony, I'm not entirely able to talk to all of you. That's where the other community patrol members come in. Merriweather and Poetic Pony are chosen by me to be members you can approach and talk to about matters of the site and community and do their best to deal with it. If they can't for some reason, then they will bring it up with me and I will deal with it personally. We do this job not for ourselves, but for you. For all you users who feel they have an opinion that can't be heard, we are here for you. It is important to me that you all know that and don't forget it. We're here to help. Now, some of you may have noticed threads popping up about problems with the staff, either between staff and users or inter-staff friendships. In the past the staff have always tried to keep its personal dramas and problems out of the public eye. It's unprofesional and paints a bad picture on us if we expect you to follow rules and get along when we have problems getting along ourselves. In time, this has slowly been becoming known and people are starting to ask questions, put 2 and 2 together and realizing everything isn't hunky dory. I'd like to put an end to this. If something happens concerning the staff, I will make sure said event is known as long as it's not private in nature, and ensure that while details may not be given, if there is something going on then we won't hide it from you guys. You deserve to know what's going on with the team running the site. Lastly, there will be a number of changes going on over the next few months. The forums are going to change, with new areas created, some consolidated and some removed entirely. I'm hoping that the mods will be active not only for moderation but to get involved in threads, as well as a set list of rules the mods have to follow (which will be made public) so that you know that we have rules for what we do as well. This and many more potential ideas will come to light in these posts and I hope that you guys will give the feedback and support to allow us to help us help you help us all. Only one problem I have with the site is that you're taking the words 'Moderator' and 'Admin' and putting 'Community' in front of it. Too much complication. And I still say dictatorship.
I also want you guys to know that a majority of my recent actions were also dual-purposed to show that if there are problems, you can address them without fear of being banned/silenced, so long as they aren't personal or insulting to the accused party. Otherwise, I am happy with this conclusion. Time to sleep. If this place was a dictatorship, not only would no problems have been addressed, but also I would have been disciplined for speaking my mind openly and to polite terms. Your hopes of this place becoming a dictatorship will not be founded. At least I hope not.
You have the wrong idea on a forum-based dictatorship. You can't compare it to crazy political leaders such as Stalin.
Can we not have this discussion in this announcement? I'd like for it to at least stay on topic within the first page to get some real feedback.
Glad to hear this Foxy. If you didn't post it today, then I honestly would have posted something exactly like this later today, even though I am no longer part of the staff. I literally had the thread I was going to start in a worddoc on my comp. XDD Still have it saved too. Even though I am not part of the staff anymore though, I still very much care for this site and WILL do what I can to make it as great as it can be. Even better than it was in its earlier days. Although. I must say that you are right. You are only one pony, and the cooperation of the ENTIRE staff is needed. Not saying they should focus on it, but that their input is also just as valuable as yours or the other community patrols. You know. I think we either need to tell other ponies that they are free to add others on Skype, PS3, and the thing with an X; or there should be a status on the left under their avatar that says like, "Free to Add." :derpe: Although, there are a lot of shy bronies out there, not that there is anything wrong with that, it's just that we wish that they didn't feel "threatened" or "timid" to add others or try to speak to them. Which is a huge "problem/concern/thing" that everypony feels somewhere new, but this is a friendly environment and others shouldn't feel as such. ^^
Well, this is for once a step in a direction I agree with. My pessimism says it won't do much, but hey. Pessimism can go pess itself.
