I'm not sure if any of these suggestions have been made in the past, but I have 2 things that I think may make the site better....well, at least for me. #1 Shoutbox I've been coming to this site almost everyday since last August, but haven't really made many friends around here. The best way for me to make friends with other websites I go to is by joining in the instant chats right on the homepage. A Shoutbox is fun for short-term conversations that usually any member can just jump right into and have a good time. People can also submit quick inquiries that I'm sure can be answered quickly by others. All in all, I think putting in a Shoutbox would be a nice touch-up to an already great forum, especially for people like me who never really use the profile messenging system. #2 Recent Posts Again I've been coming here for quite sometime, but as you can see I don't have many posts. One of the things I like most about some other forums is checking out all the latest posts right there in a nice little list. I usually open them all up and read each one and see if I can submit my input for any reason. When I came here, I started browsing through each individual section and was only reading the most recent posts from each one. That started taking too much time so now I only look through a select views, such as "General Discussion, Visual Art, Forum Games, and Episode Discussion." I'd love to come here each day and check out all the newest posts in a nice, organized manner rather than opening up each section individually and browse through them as such. Some sites are different and I may have overlooked something, but I still think this is a great idea for the site and I stand by my opinion. If you have any opinions, please post. If negative, please be gentle. I've never been one to handle aggressive rejection well.
Yes. A chat would be a great adition. As a matter of fact, we used to have one, but there were some complications. I do believe Everypony has been looking into this. What did you think about the "New Posts" tab in the navigation bar? It's also quite alright. I remember when I first joined a new forum and I overlooked a lot of things. :derpe:
Go to the Off-Topic Section discussion on the Site Discussion forum; Foxy says something about a Pony IRC being created which is going to replace the GCT somewhat.
And if the GCT gets closed I will disappear off the forum. Not by choice but because my phone can't do real time chats. Plus I hate real time chats, why do you thing I never go talk on the radio. I said 'most likely' due to its sheer size and speed of which people post in there making it quite hard to follow for new members. When the chat comes up, I'll likely delete it and create a new one which will hopefully allow new and old members to talk in it without feeling like they're interrupting something, a view that some have approached me with.
If all of its posts are deleted, I'm going to be completely frustrated. Completely. And utterly. Frustrated.
In all seriousness, if you are mad about a thread being replaced, take it up privately with a moderator. You can try to convince them to keep the thread and just moderate that one. I'm in favor of a new one being created.
But, but, but... Ahem. "You can't imagine how exciting this is! To have a record of all our lost time. EveryPony history, is it? Fascinating. Oh, how I will enjoy every moment of it's categorization. To think that you would destroy this installation, as well as this record... I am shocked. Almost too shocked for words." I can understand and fully support locking the thread once an IRC chat is introduced, but deleting the whole thing? Sure, most of it is aimless rambling, but come on! The general chat was awesome to rift through when I first joined the site, it let me get see some of the site's history and get a feel for the members. It was great fun to read up on all the little things that I'd missed. There's so many memories from when I first joined the site and started posting too, I really wouldn't want all that to disappear.
I don't think that the GCT should be removed. We've worked so hard making it what it is now. If you want to stop it from adding to post counts that's fine. If you want to moderate it, that's fine too. But it shouldn't get removed completely.
Guys. They're replacing it with Another general chat thread that will be moderated, should they decide to lock it. We should all stop overreacting and wait and see how it pans out.
