In my case I never told mom, she found out, my story goes like this: A week or so ago I arrive late at night from the university and told her we were done with some rough ****, and now I am in my way to get a decent job. since i was tired I told her I would go to sleep, but first I would check my email, as always I got into youtube to see if anypony uploaded a new song (I have downloaded at least 1 song everyday since november) and my mother show up out of ****ing nowhere to scare me and say "stop wasting time with the ponies and look for a freaking job man, you are quite old dont you know that? and then she left laughing". I knew I was getting careless, really careless, bu never knew she already knew. My girlfriend knows this since february (who didnt got it) she didnt took it nicely thinking I could be Bi or gay in closet, to which I answered: "have you watched the show? No? then dont give an opinion". My sister who found out a long time ago didnt gave a damn, she only thought it was funny coming from me. What is your story?
sister: hey sis, there's new cartoon that I like, want to watch with me (instant yes since we like same type of cartoons, so she knows if I like it, there's great possibility that she'll like it, and other way around) dad: hey dad, sis and me are watching some new cartoon, you are gonna watch with us (no, it's not an option) mom: first reaction: meh ( my response (since she doesn't know english that good): it would be better if you understood what they are talking, she: ok ( same thing was with Chowder, when it was on english only, she was like: "meh". when HRT2 started airing Chowder with croatian subtitles, she started to watch it herself (even when me and sis weren't home))
I told my older sister, and she ended up watching an episode. I told my dad and he was proud of me for organising a convention. I told my mum and she gave me that "are you gay?" look. Strange... but successful!
Mum: What was that music last night? Me: WoodenToaster, he does pony music. Mum: Why were you listening to pony music? Me: I watch My Little Pony. Mum: Riiiiight, ok. ====================================================== Me: *after long hours of waiting for an opportunity to bring it up* Oh by the way, I watch My Little Pony. Dad: Isn't that for little girls? Me: No, a lot of people watch it. Mostly guys. Dad: This isn't some weird cult is it? Me: No. Dad: .....well ok then. .... .... .... Me: Can I go to a meetup? Dad: Wha-.......................
It hasn't happened yet, but it seems like it will happen soon. As my dad saw a pony picture with a nazi symbol on facebook and he wants to know what it is. I think it's the Celestia picture with the nazi symbol, but I'm waiting for him to send me the picture. As I liked that picture and he wants to know what it is as he is confused by it.
Well, as I got introduced by one of my friends, and my brother knows most of my friends (blegh, it's horrible), and my brother looks for any opportunity to take me down a notch to make himself look better, it was pretty much as soon as I started watching it that my parents found out. Me: Hey Grace, I watched that show you told me about the other day. Grace: Aaaaaaaand? Me: And then I watched five more immediately afterwards. Grace: Hahaaaa! I told you you'd like it! Brother: Like what? Grace: My Little Pony! Me: (Mental facepalm) (thinks) Oh great, there's no stopping him now... Brother: (Makes over-dramatic creeped-out face) You mean he LIKES to WATCH it? Grace: Yeah! You should watch it too! Brother: No thank you, I will NEVER watch that junk! (My sisters used to watch G4 ponies, which cannot compare, and my brother and I both hated it, so I was skeptical as well at first) Brother: -goes over to all of his friends- Guys, guess what? Me: (mental facepalm again) Brother: Apparently...my brother likes...My Little Pony. Random Friend 1: Seriously? Brother: Seriously, I just heard it over there. -points at me and Grace- Anyways, that's pretty much what he's done since I started watching, telling every person he knows that his brother likes Ponies, and being sure to make it sound like a horrible, unforgivable sin. It's rather pathetic, actually, since neither he nor any of his friends aside from a few who also have Bronies for brothers have even seen one minute of one episode, but middle-school boys will be middle-school boys, I suppose.
My Dad walks in and sees pony episodes in my video folder Dad: What!? My little pony!? Looks at me with a weirded out smile Me: Yes Dad: Why on earth would you watch My little pony? Me: I like it (I was VERY nervous as I was still fairly new to the herd) Me: I am a brony Dad:... Me: It isn't the older versions it is a newer one Dad: aah I see so it has some new age stuff Me: Yeah! *Dad leaves the room laughing* Me...(Well that was awkward) Sister: Why are there...Ponies on your skype? Me: Those are my contacts profile pics Sister: Why would you talk to people who like that sort of thing!? Me: We all share a common interest. Sister: Wait...WHAT!? It's a GIRLS SHOW (Btw she thinks she is too old for childrens cartoons, she is 14) Me: Yeah so? Sister: It's weird Me: Watch an episode and see! Sister: Umm, no, WHY THE HECK DO YOU WATCH IT? ME: WATCH AN EPISODE AND SEE! Sister: NO walks out giving me the "You're gay" Look. I was in a skype call with those buddies of mine at the time...they heard it all...we all laughed our heads off afterwards XD
Haven't properly told me parents that I'm a brony. But this may be one way I tell them: - Parents agree to drop me off at the Thorpe Park meet-up - Arrive at Thorpe Park - They ask me to point out the people I'll be hanging out with - I point to the group of grown men wearing the pony t-shirts
