If you recognised my thread/video on bullying, you may have known that I was involved in reoccurring incidents involving construction workers whilst taking my everyday route to college/town. Various workers instigated verbal abuse, made inappropriate sexual gestures and were being extremely intimidating just because I wore alternative clothing. I had to take alternative, longer routes to my destination just to avoid them, which was unfair in itself considering I didn't spur on any of the workers to make comments towards me. I eventually proceeded to take action, writing down the company name, registration and the area they were designated. With just one phone call, I was directed towards the deputy manager of customer services of the company, who worked closely with another company that was involved in the incidents. I received another phone call informing me that once they had determined the information needed, they would investigate and act accordingly with their disciplinary procedures. In order to do that, they organised to visit my home and discuss things with me face to face. The representatives of both companies were not only reassuring, but I could tell they were genuinely disgusted with what I had experienced through their company, and they assured me that they would visit me again when they had sorted everything out. The representatives visited me today a second time to confirm that disciplinary action had been taken and that members of their company will be retrained in customer service and communication. Awareness has spread to both companies and affected others into raising concerns and putting particular emphasis on zero tolerance with bullying, verbal abuse and sexual gesturing etc. The company have also offered to make a small contribution to an anti-bullying charity of my choice. I'm glad something positive is coming out of this, and the co-operation and support I received from them was more than satisfactory. More companies have been made aware of the situation and are following their footsteps in improving the situation, and also a small charity will benefit! Proud that I pursued it and I am very pleased with the outcome. I hope now we can spread that little bit more support to those that need it by supporting a local charity and I also hope there will be more tolerance to those that have inconsiderably judged others on basis of appearance, gender, race, religion, orientation or any other form of discriminative behaviours. Also, I finished my History Coursework today! Much more free time now! Expect to hear more from me in the forums! :3 Hope to speak to everypony soon!
That's great to hear. It's stories like this that make me still have faith in humanity. Standing up for yourself really does benefit you. I respect you for doing this.
It sure does. I had my doubts at first, but there was no harm in trying to stand up for yourself and what you believe in. Thanks very much!
Good for you for taking action and good for the company for actually caring. Hearing stuff like this brightens my day! ^_^
That's great news! It's great that you took action and stood for what you believe in, and even better that the company listened and helped to resolve the issues! And providing donation to charity! Awesome!!! Just like Zephyr Wind said, hearing good news like this makes me so happy.
Yay for the community getting something right! Well done on your anti-bullying victory! Thats Bullies:0- Awesome people (You and victims and those un involved or helping): 9000000!
I know, it really was great news! I never expected the donation to be offered, but the lady handed me her contact details and said that I could call her when I decided a charity! My friends and I all attended a youth center that had to shut down and move to somewhere smaller, I think I should direct the attention to youth centers that help those suffering. It really did put a smile on my face Haha, that it is! And thank you~ A little faith was restored in humanity that day to me. ^-^
Now that's some great news, well done Sinder! It takes courage to step to the authorities, unsure what the outcome will be. Sounds like there's some very decent people in charge of those companies. These are the kind of people that are supposed be in high positions.
I'm glad you went about doing this through the proper channels and I hope that those involved will take notice that their actions do have consequences. It's also good to see that it all worked out and that a good cause will end up getting some funding out of all of this!
Very well done. You handled everything perfectly and got more out of it than anyone would've expected.
Those are great news! Glad something positive came out at the end, bullying sure isn't fun nor should it be tolerated. Good for you for standing up to it. *brohoof*
Congratulations, Sinder! I'm so happy for you! Justice is served swiftly and appropriately. Also, I find it amusing in a way that construction workers in the UK (or at least, these particular construction workers) act similarly to the stereotypical construction workers here in the US, with cat calling and shouting inappropriate remarks to female passersby.
The sad thing is that anti-bullying is the new bullying. Oh, you're against anti-bullying? Then you're a bully! Only bullies are against being against bullying? What kind of... etc. This is so common nowadays, that you might not even notice it, just like you don't notice that you are in air.
Could you give an example please? Why would somebody be against anti-bullying, without being a bully themselves? Because they think the bullies are wrongfully accused?
I, personally, think bullying is stupid, and hope people are above it. I also think that most anti-bullying shenanigans are stupid, since bullies don't CARE if you wear a pink shirt. They have bigger problems that that. I also see the following happen in the media and in my school whenever some sort of anti-bullying event happens: "X did not wear a <token of choice> today, when everyone against bullying should wear <token of choice>. X is a bully!" This is obviously followed by some sort of defamation or extortion (bullying). I'm not saying that all anti-bullying activists are bullies. I'm saying all smart bullies are anti-bullying activists. The same goes for the "green" movement, etc.
I guess there are some very low individuals that take their bullying so serious they pretend to be anti-bullies in order to bully better... Bullyception. But I must say I can't remember ever encountering such a situation myself. Is it really that big a problem?
