As the forum has grown, we have continued to expand and develop the range of services on offer at everypony.com. However this does not mean all the services on offer are up to standard, used in excess or really benefiting the community in any way surmountable way. As you can see the navbar is getting a little full and believe me when I say there's a lot more to come. It is my belief that the downloads section isn't benefiting the forum and the community to any great level and few would miss it's departure. However I'm not a tyrant and I can most certainly make mistakes or misobservations and would like to hear Everypony's collective views on the matter. My points for removal: - It's used by a minority and rather infrequently (Or so I think) - It's space on the navbar! Not a big deal but.. - One less section to moderate - It's easily and understandably the hardest and longest part of the forum to backup (sheer file size/s) Against removal: - Some DO use it - There are already a lot of useful and highly downloaded files on there - It may very well be being taken for granted at present and ultimately prove an apparent loss once taken down. Opinions? I'm very open to alternative actions/suggestions! Sent from my GT-I9000 using Tapatalk
I didn't know that we HAD a download section until you mentioned it. Though after you did, I searched the nav bar and saw that it was covered by the search bar.
Funny this should be mentioned, I actually saw it for the first time the other day. I can't say I'm a frequent user, but I can't talk on behalf of everyone else.
There's also a Fictions section to the right of it. I haven't paid attention to either yet since I have pretty recently become active, however it shows over 4000 people downloaded the content in the Downloads section. I'm not sure if it counts opening the files as a download though. Added the link for those who can't see it.
Jeeze, what resolution do you have your monitor set to? It's also covering the fanfic section @Grey I think the reason it's not used much is that well it was started before many people even started coming here and since then no one's said a word about it Aside from the few people who have found it and uploaded a few resources, it's not like anyone was saying much about it. I think it would be used more if more people knew of it's existance Take the fanfic section for example, that was added recently and there's been numerous announcements involving it and bam people are using it, in practice it's really similar - a place to drop of resources for other people to see them so I'm fairly confident that if more people knew of it's existance, more people would use it. Also note that it's not necessarily the most practical for all types of things it's supposed to encompass atm -As far as an art gallery goes, it's not very practical for previewing and showcasing since it doesn't easily group together artist's work - on top of that we already have VB's (glitchy and a pain to use) albums for that sort of thing -You never finished the mp3 preview thing so you have to download and play anything you want to hear -etc. etc. So basically: It seems unfinished and aside from a navbar link (which you can't expect everyone to see) few people even know about it.
I can't see the fiction section either.....well....Maybe it's not used because it isn't the most visible thing.....
I have NO clue, but I zoomed out and now I can see it....but I feel a touch silly for not noticing...
I've noticed it and I can see all the sections in the navbar with no difficulty. I recently downloaded 24 files from the Downloads section because I've been trying to bulk up my pony tunes playlist. When I wanted to download music created by the EPR DJ's, the link that was posted below a YouTube video from EveryPonyVideos directed me to the Downloads section here. Since then, I check it from time to time to see if anything new has been added. EDIT: Speaking of sections, there seems to be a double-up on the rules sections; "Read the Rules" and "Rules." When I click on the former, I just get a blank screen. The latter directs me to the rules though.
Well there's an issue in itself - Navbar space I knew it was pretty full but if it's overlapping on smaller resolutions that issue needs to be addressed!
1. Gallery SHOULDN'T be in the navbar... at all. 2. I kinda don't see the point in "What's new?" - Is anyone using it? "Gallery" and "What's new?" seem superfluous to me. About the downloads and stuff - Well, you could remove it from the navbar for a time, until all has been solved and stuff. I say "get rid for now". Maybe add it back on in the future.
Am I the only one who noticed that there are TWO rule sections on the nav bar? It could be consolidated if you take one of those and maybe do like Jaret said and do away with "What's new".
I use it only like most of the time. :V Edit: Never used Home though since the header links there as well.
OH, now i see 2 rule sections in the navbar. One must go, and the gallery should go too. Home should be the first in the navbar (maybe change the name to "portal" since it IS called a portal), followed by Forums, followed by "What's new", followed by Rules, followed by Radio, followed by RP chat followed by Downloads (?) and finally followed by Fics. But basically, on topic - Downloads section should be first fixed to it's maximum, and then released - And should be announced. I am sure it is easier to draw a comic than write a whole fiction.
Ok so I'll rearrange the navbar at the weekend and keep the download section for now.. Well at least unless further discussion/input leads to another reasonable solution.
Hmm, at least remove the question mark - kinda seems strange for me. I think we all agree on Gallery to be removed from the navbar?
Remove "Rules" or "Read the rules", I know someponies might but I don't think most need telling twice Also should drop "Whats New?" as "New posts" covers. As for downloads I have never had reason to use them before.
Agreeing with both the removal of the question mark and the gallery link (since it doesn't really function well and generally gets ignored anyway).
