I enjoy the small refrences the creators slip into the show, like they acknowledge their older fan base. So share refrences you have noticed in the show. (I did a quick search and couldn't find any similar thread but if there are I appologize) Here are a few that I have noticed while watching the shoe, it's a short list as I am not very observant. 1- Rarity in your vanity you flew to close to the sun 2- The mAne-team 3- appletini and "punch has been spiked" -booze jokes 4- I could be mistaken but this ponies costume looks like scropian from mortal combat 5- I didnt actually notice this one as I have never seen it. I see this one on the internet a lot. Big Lebowsky cameo 6- My favorite one, you know a show has class when they do a Gone With the Wind refrence
Daring Doo = Combination Indiana Jones and Scooby Doo (in name only) The end of Return of Harmony
Also, I think there was a Alice in Wonderland reference in A Bird in a Hoof, and there was definitely a James Bond reference in the MMMystery on the friendship express, A Sherlock Holmes, among others...
First of all, I think this should go in the story discussion sub-forum. Anyway, the show has been known to contain quite a few references. Applejack and Appletini are both booze references, the Disney references in the royal wedding and many others.
Beauty and the Beast reference in Putting Your Hoof Down; she looks into a puddle and notices what she's acting like, just like the Beast. At least, seemed that way to me.
I have a similar thread in the subforums, though mine gives evidence that the ponies have a military force or have faced a war in the past
The entire plot of the Mystery episode on the train is the same as Agatha Christie's Murder on the Orient Express.
I thought about it, but it doesn't really have anything to do with the plot, and nothing really to do with equestria. It's about our world, so I decided to put it here. OHH I totally did notice the Metal gear one. I forget to put it, the SHAME!. TWILIGHT EVOLVES INTO... RAPIDASH, than again it might have anything to do with Pokemon.
Cultural references thread we all know the famous rapidash reference. can you name anymore? There doesnt seem to be a complete list of all of them on youtube
Well, of course, there was that Benny Hill chase scene in "The Ticket Master". Fluttershy describes Spike as "Huffy the Magic Dragon" in "Over a Barrel". Fluttershy's training scene in "Putting Your Hoof Down" is a parody of "Rocky"; to cap it off, they somehow managed to get the rights to "Eye of the Tiger".
I do recall ticket master having more references. like rainbow dash referencing monty python's holy grail by making that hole in the clouds. pinkie pie's hopping is an exact copy of peppy le pew from loony tunes. rarity=cinderella. all her fantasies are pretty much references to that. fluttershy=snow white (oh come on it was obvious!) when she describes her trip to the gala. It also references something. its the oh my and the coloured jays and pink flamingoes during rainbow dash's dream in may the best pet win. they reference alien. more from ticket master twilight picking flower petals at the cafe. its the she loves me she loves me not thing (its funny how many kids don't know that anymore). plus the falling petals are the exact same animation as beauty and the beast's enchanted red rose. before the cloud scene with rainbow. twilight is thinking. when pinkie and rainbow and raity show up. they have the exact same expressions as the three stooges. when twilight is rarity's boutique. "we will be the belles of the ball you and I"-thats definitely from somewhere. "and I just so happen to have an ensemble of my own." back in the library-fluttershy=snow white is being spelled out now. when twilight screams at pinkie-alvin and the chipmunks yo.
There's in "Read It and Weep", when Rainbow Dash is in her hospital bed, she's briefly seen bouncing a ball against the wall, which is an obvious reference to a pretty frequently parodied scene from "The Great Escape".
Applebuck Season, when Daisy faints in the herd of rabbits and the camera zooms out and it just shows her laying there amongst the stampeding rabbits, Lion King reference.
I just noticed that! And to top it off, I was playing MSG3 earlier today up to the part where the major mentions The Great Escape.
