The way I see it, Dubstep is electronica's equivelant of Metal Basically it's really bass heavy (the wobble bass is one of the mainstays of the genre, though it's not required - basically it's what makes the Wubwubwubwub sound), often uses offbeat and complex rhythms and is generally a huge pain to mix (still working on getting the feel just right when I try to make it). Some of my favorites: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MJlo0hWnZWc http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qwbUT5Bdptg http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-NLGXAu9Ro8
You like Dubstep? Awesome, me too! This isn't my favourite (I'm horrible at remembering song's names) but I still quite like it. EDIT: just noticed both our vids are fro the same place
I've never been able to get into dubstep, I'm more of a 90's rock guy, most likely because I'm from California and the punk/rock scene here is pretty prominant. I can enjoy it if I'm with friends, but it's not something you'd find me playing while studying.
Some of the best things I've found for studying: Spoiler: derp Glitchcore and Post-rock/metal are often great for concentration from my experience Also a friend of mine says glitch core actually improves his aim in FPS games, odd - never tried it myself
Personally, I just find the songs a tad repetitive. I've always preferred the standard verse/chorus/verse/chorus/bridge/chorus approach to music, it's basic but it works. I guess it's what I just grew up on. This is my studying song, I usually wind up listening to it over 30 times on repeat and drive my family crazy. :derpe:
Modern Alternative/Rock here Green Day, 30STM, MCR, Breaking Benjamin (<3), Paramore, Hinder, Fightstar etc I like some old stuff to namely Sting/The Police and Genesis
Got a favourite song? I've always liked Crush Crush Crush and When it Rains Really like Blink 18 - 2 Booxely :derpe:
A Perfect Circle's pretty sweet Spoiler: derp, this text doesn't matter at all
My favorite Paramore song is Misery Business, probably because it's has a faster pace than most of their songs. (Got a non-Vevo video so I could embed it)
I don't listen to radio much, so I don't really know what songs are considered overplayed at this point. :/ If it isn't on my iPod I usually don't know it.
Best radio I've heard is Satellite radio, but that's of course if you're willing to pay for it. I used to get XM with my old TV provider (could listen to it through the TV) and it was great, no commercials, great DJs, played a very large variety of music and introduced me to many great bands I would never have learned of before (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rBzSuVdwfA8 - Karnivool, great australian rock band) and had a great variety of channels dedicated to pretty much every genre of music. Then we switched to Verizon Fios (great internet service, it's blazing fast) for TV and began getting some weird satellite radio service they provide I listened for about 20 minutes, mainly just heard Linkin Park and other band's you'd expect to hear on a rock station, saw they had some sort of "Text in to get on TV" thing, mainly 14 year old kids putting pictures of themselves up saying "Bla bla bla is asumz " and requesting Greenday (on what is supposed to be a hard rock channel). Needless to say I haven't listened since.
http://www.music-map.com/ This is pretty nice, basically you input an artist name and it'll find others similar It's nice as it has plenty of obscure artists you would've never heard of before. I found 65daysofstatic through it
-Bump- Was just introduced to this guy's music the other day, it's great - it's dubstep but it's relaxed
My taste in music is pretty random. I like SOME heavy metal (The good stuff), classical music, and rap. Every genre basically. Here's one of my favorite classical songs. Metallica. AND The old school rap.
I used to be into the classic rock/metal, but I guess I just grew less fond of it. I still love me my Acca Dacca though, and I don't think that'll ever change.
