I wonder how many times Everfree Forest was explored and mentioned in the last two Seasons. And there is not much history about it.
Besides the mane 6/CMC, it seems only Granny smith and Zecora have really traveled there. It's protrayed as a very wild, scary, uncontrolled place-which helped fuel paranoia about Zecora since she made her home there. The beasts and flora in there seem to be shourded in mystery and not well understood. Twilight had no idea whatsoever about PoisonJoke expect in a pony folklore book-the entry would have be sided by many disporving facts (such as folk cures).
I hear if you were to travel deep within the forest, you would eventually come upon a tribe of Knights who repeatedly shout "NI!" at you.
Thank you. I'm a pretty mellow guy in real life, so deadpan is my default speed. Also, Story of the Blanks is my favorite MLP-themed game.
I remember hearing some pretty important things about Everfree from the Bridal Gossip Episode: The Plants grow, The Animals care for themselves, And the clouds move on their own. It's always felt like this place, as opposed to any other location, is a real wild habitat that doesn't require direct pony intervention in order for things to work. One might be able to stretch that out into the forest being a place outside of the control/dominion of Celestia... It also causes me to wonder about the shape/expanse of the place. I had half a thought that it either ringed Equestria, as a sort of boundary between the 'Eden' and 'world without.' Then again, the location works just as well as a finite place of mystery and 'free-magick' where creatures, plants and what-not end up doing as they might normally without the 'blessing' of Celestia.
That's a very intresting idea...and it's already canon that there are other kingdoms (dragons, griffons, changlings) so it would/could be a natural barrier/border between them. And thus would be neutral, so there is no blessing of Celestia.
Oooooh! Good concept. The place isn't named Everfree because it's not under the dominion of the sister princesses, but a line-of-demarcation or 'free state' between the various kingdoms. That's a fun idea that could lend itself to Fanfiction quite well.
I think the Everfree Forest used to be a beautiful place like the rest of Equestria, but since the Elements of Harmony rested there, i assume that's where Nightmare Moon was banished. Because of that, ponies ignored the place and kept away from it ever since. 1000 years have passed since, and as evolution proves, the fauna and flora of Everfree Forest probably adjusted to not having ponies around anymore and started to fend for itself rather than relying on care and attention, which is why it's such a creepy, desolate, and overgrown place now.
I'm pretty sure we'll see more of it come the third season. I mean, I really hope so. Anything having to do with some sort of grotesque/threatening creature intrigues me, considering they all aren't regular animals... Like the ursa minor and major- I couldn't help but laugh when I saw how horrendously cool urse major looked. I hope ponyville faces some crazy problem coming from the forest, and the mane six have to rise against it ^^ I love seeing them pull their elements together. I teared up at many parts in the beginning of the second season when they had to fend off Discord.
I think that the Everfree Forest is a sad reminder that ponies are afraid of the unknown. As intelligent as ponies are, they are also incredibly closed-minded creatures.
I think that The Ancient Castle of The Royal Pony Sisters is where Celestia and Luna lived one thousand years ago before Canterlot Castle was built.
