Is this factoring? What are you supposed to be doing with the problem?

    First you'd factorise 9-x^2 to get (3+x)(3-x)

Then multiply the fractions to get:
    . (8-2x)(6-2x) .
    (3-x)(3+x)(4-x)

Now since both brackets in the numerator have a common factor of 2, factorise them:

    . 2(4-x)(3-x) .
    (3-x)(3+x)(4-x)

Now you can cancel stuff out:

    2(4-x)(3-x)
    (3-x)(3+x)(4-x)

    Which is basically:

    . 2 .
    (3+x)

I hope I mangaed to make that clear. It's quite hard to demonstrate using just text. Ignore the dots, that was just an attempt to make the line longer.

I was actually worried that I would get ninja'd multiple times. 51m0nn was right though, it does feel good when you finish a question like that.

I got all mixed up when there was no = sign. I like = signs, they give me comfort.

Now, <,>,and other things like that are just messy, and no sign at all is just disturbing. 0.o

I just realised that I can show this to my parents as proof that I've done revision. It's a win-win situation for everyone!

Yeah you're supposed to factorise the top and bottom what I got was:

    8-2x * 6-2x
    9-x^2 4-x

    8(2)-2x * 6-2x
    9-x^2 4(1)-x

    2-2 __ *2 (3-x)
    9-x^2 ___1

    0__ * 2(3-x)
    9-x^2__1

    0
    9-x^2
    = 0

That's how I worked it out, but I don't think that that is right

OOOOOH I GET IT NOW I forgot to factorise the 9-x^2! Thanks! I worked it out all wrong xD

EDIT: oops, couldn't be avoided, I double posted D:

In this step, you seem to have canceled out the x somehow. That's probably the reason why you got that answer. If you want the solution, I posted it on the page before this one.

I'm not actually certain about what I said so just ignore that. Anyway, glad I could help. Just remember when you see "x^2 - (square number)", immediately factorise it to get (x+square root)(x-square root).

It's really awkward to explain by text but I hope that what I said was clear.

No, you can't do that, that thing with the 2x and the x and... If there's a + or - sign between two things, you can't simplify them between the numerator and denominator. What you did would work if it was being multiplied, but it was being subtracted.

I don't think that helped much, but look at how B-dog did it. He's right.

B-dog, you ninja! xD How will I ever look smarticus if you keep stealing my glory and fame? :trixieftw:

-looks knowingly at other bronies in the room-

Common problem. My brother thinks I'm a creeper too, in his opinion MLP shouldn't even exist.

I think you should be able to like whatever you want to without being judged, but I'm an idealist I suppose.

No one should judge you for something you love. Have they ever watched the show?

There is no cut-off age for it. People's personal opinions shouldn't be manipulated by others.
