I know that it's not exactly needed (we've done without it for the last 15 or so months) but hopefully this will result in the members being aware of all of this stuff. I reckon that most members hardly visit "The Pavilion" but hopefully this will encourage them. The competitions will also be fun and hopefully more regular.
If you really want a good idea to increase community activity on the rest of the forum, then lock the General Chat thread. :Trollestia:
Alright, I'll work on refining it to see what I come up with. I'll post the full plan probably this weekend or tonight. Big edit coming your way. Meetup discussion and competitions could be merged into this forum. Everything else can stay. Now, if you referring to the avatar month event I was referring to, I've written up some guidelines as far as that is concerned. And like I said before, the Your Face thread and Community praise thread would fit much better in there. More edits maybe... Also, an adoption lodge. A place where older members can "adopt" younger members.
We've been over this before. The people who would leave are the people who would be mad that they can't boost their post count. Besides, we have the Chat already. (Tab on the top of your screen.) That is what it is there for. General Chat and discussion. Getting rid of the GCT will generate more traffic for it. At this point, there is practically no need for chat mods because the GCT takes up everyone's time. That and Testyal would be pretty pissed.
I have to agree with Saikyo, anyone who left over such a trivial thing really wouldn't be considered a big loss.
I don't like the chatroom. Plain and simple. I don't like the fact that random people are like, "oh I can't talk now, have my phone number." That quite frankly creeps me out. Plus, the people that do want to chat usually have other EP members on skype which you can not only text chat but voice and video chat as well. I don't feel comfortable with the chatroom. I do feel comfortable with the Chat thread because it is controlled. I feel comfortable with Skype because it is controlled. The chatroom will have to improve significantly before I feel comfortable setting foot in there.
I don't think that post count is the main reason why people use the GCT thread is because they dislike RT chats. I know that a few of the main posters there dislike chat rooms. Anyway, to keep this on topic, how do you propose to set up the adoption lodge?
Of course not. I use it to connect with people because of it's less rigid posting guidelines. If I don't have the General Chat thread, it's a lot harder for me to know if people have personal problems that they want to talk about. If I don't have the chat thread, I can't help people very well and therefore feel like dead weight around the forums. I need to be contributing. It's my duty as a member of these forums. Plus we can move it to this new community forum and make posts in there not count. I mean, isn't that what you do with the forum games forum? The Chat thread has become part of the community. Tis related. As for the adoption lodge...well, that's an idea in progress. I haven't worked out the kinks yet.
We should have a place called THE TABLE. And EVERYPONY must SIT at THE TABLE and follow PROPER TABLE ETIQUETTE!
We put up a vote for the bolded section but, yet again, the people who only post in there for Post Counts voted against it. So it probably won't work that way. Also, if you try to even have a decent conversation in there, the inevitable 'I'm bored.' from a certain user will spark a ton of stupid crap. So I think the thread is just a thread. It doesn't have huge pull in the community. Or at least, it shouldn't.
Recently, I've found that the GCT is a good way to have a conversation. I think that after you made that thread discussing it, people started to post less "spam".
Also, if you try to even have a decent conversation in there, the inevitable 'I'm bored.' from a certain user will spark a ton of stupid crap.[/quote] Tell them to vote between either keeping the thread and posts don't count or we get rid of thread. At least then we will have some chance of keeping it. And again, it's the of the few ways that's really good for meeting new people, learning about them, and potentially becoming friends with them without going into shady chatrooms.
Well, I think the problem there is that for that to work, posts in the entire forum would have to not count.
I don't like it. People ask me for my number when I go in there and give me theirs. Priceless with your avatar btw. xD
Well if you remember their username perhaps consider reporting them to a staff member if it bothers you. Edit: Thanks, Twilight is in her investigative mode.
