People have always wondered exactly what Cadence's royal duty was compared to Celestia and Luna. Then i figured this out: Celestia is in charge of day. Luna is in charge of night. Cadence was in charge of Twilight (Sparkle). Makes a funny kind of sense, doesn't it? :derpe: Seriously though. Her talent is spreading love. How exactly does she fit in with the rest of the royal family? I doubt babysitting is a royal duty.
Compare it to Britain's monarchy. We have a Queen and numerous dukes and duchesses in charge of different places. Then we have the other ones who are related to the royal family but have no roles as such (it's something like that, I never really look into it much). Likewise, Celestia and Luna do stuff, whilst Cadence (and possibly Prince Blueblood) just have the title and nothing else.
She probably just walks around Canterlot looking for arguing ponies and mediating between them. She's like a Batman of friendship.
I think she actually works at Royal shipping agency that she founded herself. Shipping ponies, royal way.
Well it could be possible. She could be tasked with babysitting the children of the royal family, or in the case of Twilight, who's not necessarily royalty, but has royal ties since Shining Armor is captain of the Royal Guard. Maybe she's just that good of a babysitter that they couldn't really 'trust' anyone else to do it? Dunno. But I think it is safe to say that not EVERYONE in the royal family has amazing abilities (take a look at Blueblood).
At the time that Twilight needed babysitting, i doubt Shining Armor was already captain of the royal guard. Heck, i doubt he was even in the royal guard at the time.
Babysitting is a job usually done by teenagers as an extra source of income. During the flashback, Cadence seemed much younger, probably the pony equivalent of a young teenager. I don't think that it's her official job. I reckon that the jobs of other royal family members (Candance and Blueblood) are to just sit there and look pretty. I can't see them having other responsibilities, considering how powerful Celestia and Luna are. I don't think they'd need to hand out other jobs as the two of them are more than capable of doing anything.
I'd like to think that Shining was at least Royal Guard at the time (training possibly), and it's pretty obvious their parents would be busy. Otherwise why would Twi need a babysitter?

well, if humans can have shipping (dating) agency's, why Equestria wouldn't have one, and who's more qualified for running one than Cadence
She's the pony with the ability to make people love each other if there's a spark, like what has been mentioned above, Cupid. Her and Shining Armour's combined power of love could for all we know be just as powerful as the Elements of Harmony themselves, giving her a duty to spread love and protection with Shining all around Equestria where it may not be found.
