It's called Surrealism, and it came just out of that Btw, auto-change the word "God" to "Celestia" and BAM you never have to worry about having religious flame-wars on the site
Jaret: Like what happens now, many manga artists are influenced by American comics and cartoons. If you're looking for something completely realistic, however, I suggest trying to find gekiga instead. As for the manga thing, I think I draw anime because it's in my blood - I am half Japanese. It's also in my story: anime and pretty much everything Japanese is part of my childhood more than anything else (I lived in Japan back then). I watched Sailor Moon and Dragon Ball when I was six, and that was over eighteen years ago. So I was influenced by culture, not really the manga style. It's unbearable and also predictable that people would try to do anime style because of its popularity, tough. It's an "easy" way to draw nicely - at least according to people (I wouldn't call it easy). I think God gave us such talent so it wouldn't be overly childish nor too realistic/serious, so everyone can see it.
Meh, it's just there's oh so many white kids out there that desperately want to be asian who know absolutely nothing about the culture but think they do since they've watched anime
Derpy: Anime is fairly full of Japanese concepts and cultural references. But you don't get to know Japan just because you watch anime - especially if it's dubbed and cut... EDIT: Also... For both kids and grown-ups the matter is the same. We got a name for them: henna gaijin - "weird foreigner" in Japanese. Would suggest not using it, as it can be offensive, tough.
Best draw Realistic Ninjas and Samurai. QTBH, the house architecture is really well developed, the flowers, the walls, the roofs... All. The people are nice as well aftitmk.
Jaret: Or actual Yakuza members. But that would be rather too heavy even for a 25-old audience. You don't know what those guys did back then... We can't really forbid people to like Japanese culture, tough. My friend Roddy wants to name his son after a Japanese soccer player. =/
Jaret: Yeah. But they're weird. BTW, since I'm bored out of my mind, I just uploaded a profile sheet and some profiles in Google Docs. Right now adapting it to be simpler and doing Twilight's and Bamboo's profiles.
Derpy: Those guys were never any normal. I can't help but love irezumi, tough. BTW, are you an Asian enthusiastic?
Not sure I'd call myself an Asian enthusiast, I just like learning about other cultures and learning random facts so I pick up on things about different countries and that sort of thing, for example I really like Indian (as in India Indian) classical music (I actually own a Sitar) and I've always really liked making Origami (well it's more a western style, but I have to say my favorite type is modular origami, though I'd have to say Tomoko Fuse is my favorite Origami artist)- so knowing the culture a little more then like say the average person you can understand how annoying it is when you see these 13 year old kids on the internet pretending their Japanese just because they think Bleach is awesome or something. Btw, while on the subject of foreign instruments - I'd love to get a Koto, but I can't seem to find them at an affordable price (meh, blame the strings made out silk for that...)
Derpy: Kotos are not exactly anywhere cheap, especially because they're that kind of instrument the whole thing in it is an epic art, so keep saving money for them. And how dare you fanboys and fangirls, BLEACH IS NOT AWESOME! (dies beaten up by other otaku people) Okays, I'm done now.
Yeah, I've been considering a Shamisen though since those are far more affordable But then there's other things I'm considering spending my money on too
Can we please get back on topic? All I have to do now is scan my new brony drawing into the computer. Sent from my ERIS-GSBv3.3 using Tapatalk
Cool, can't wait! =D I tried to draw another, it failed epically. I'll try again when my motivational levels leave the danger zone :x
x) I can't quite get it to look quite 'right' - whatever that means - I'll get there eventually Drew this one on my phone so yeah... It's a tad rough around the edges :3
He's missing his horn. xD But I like a lot how you've found a style that matches your personality. Also, you have a good eye to draw a pony with right proportions.
My attempt at adding some colour as you and Jaret suggested, it's still on my phone - sorry, I'll get round to drawing something on paper or a tablet eventually (which'll ofc be much better!). Hey at least the orientation's better this time
Grey: Nice. You could try coloring it behind the lineart. And the colored line works nicely for ya. c: Wanna try working with color stains.
