I was thinking, just HOW much have we impacted the show? How many background characters that were once unnamed, now have their fanon names recognized as canon? What has been our impact on the show itself? What do you think our impact upon the show we adore so much is?

The moment the Derpy thing backfired I realized that bronies should no longer be acknowledge in such a big way.

I think bronies aren't have a good effect on the show.

I heard that if the show hadn't became so popular, they would have been much less likely to even start a season 2. Most generations apparently only had one season for their show, I wouldn't really know that though. I think we've also greatly effected the narratives of some of the episodes, as they seem to have added characters, scripting and scenes which might appeal more to both lil' girls and us bronies. I don't think the whole Fluttershy beating up a bear thing was wholey aimed at girls.

also, the whole James bond scene or Star Wars ending scene, or other scenes that I think little kids wouldn't really get it.

Lauren Faust did intend to make the show appeal to the parents as well as the children. So there will be some references for the older viewers. However, you can tell that Season 2 has a lot more references.

Well that doesn't entirely have to do with bronies. The premise when the show was created was to make it likeable by more than one age group, and especially to make it fun to watch for the parents of the kids in the expected demographic.

I have to agree. Subtle nods to the brony fandom or references to pop culture are one thing, but directly pandering to us degrades the original concept for the show, and takes away everything I've come to like about this show. I like this show for what it is: a magical, heartwarming and funny kids cartoon. Not a brony cartoon.

I would rather have them just make the show the way they originally intended to make it, to keep just doin' their own thing, and never once mention the bronies than for more of the derpy fiasco. That's my opinion.

    I preferred Season 1.
Where there were only subtle references. I love subtle references.

They're harder to see or hear and when you do find them, it makes it all the more special.
The derpy thing was surprising, and unexpected, yet it felt too blatant and it had too big of an impact, as we all saw the aftermath.

Fanon is fanon, and should stay fanon.
    Unless it's a small hint.

I noticed a lot of you talking about the Derpy incident, and here's my take on that. Lauren Faist herself said it was an extremely small, yet vocal group that opposed Derpy, so in was more than likely that was the parents of the girls of acually watch the show. So yes I agree, small references good, blatant references bad.

The only thing I'm majorly hoping they do in season three is that they go back to the season one like style, to me season two was kind of random in places and didn't make much sense. Season one on the other hand flowed very nicely and I wish and hope that season three goes back to this.

I think season 2 was more them settling into place, giving us a better idea of the scope of Equestria.

I enjoy the occasional "adult" references in the show, but it's supposed to be for little girls. I say: KEEP it for little girls. Around 1 brony reference per season is enough, to be honest. I would totally be fine with them having absolutely no brony references in the first place; I watch for the plot, not the lols.

small refrences are a blast though, like during season one when they kept derpy all cross eyed

the real world refrences are plenty, like equstria girls

Yes, that was very blatant, and I remember a picture of a time when Hasbro had something specifically for bronies linked up on their site for MLP.

So lets say that they do just that. Remove any hint about bronies and their fanon from the show.

    Season 1 was pure.
Season 2 had nods toward bronies.
Season 3 will be...in my experience, way different. Third time's a charm anypony?

As silly as I feel the whole Derpy incident was, it definitely showed those working on the show that appealing too much to bronies isn't always going to be peaches and gravy. I mean, the voice actor who originally did Derpy's voice got death threats. That's pretty messed up, even if it was all just a big troll attack. So I agree with Merriweather that they should go back to Season 1 style references and keep them more subtle, kind of like an Easter egg for us to hunt down (in addition to Derpy, of course). Even witty lines like, "Looks like the punch has been... spiked!" caught me off guard before I burst out laughing. Season 2 just didn't seem to quite have the full cohesiveness that Season 1 had. As for the argument that they were just trying to show there were other locales in Equestria, I still think this could have been handled better. Even some hints about the Changeling threat coming or some form of explanation of where they came from during the finale would have been a great way to join together the episodes. They did this fantastically with the Gala throughout Season 1, but Season 2 just seemed more forced and random.

TL;DR Keep your fanon out of my canon.

Oh please, the sensitivity of people about the Derpy issue is simply ridiculous. Death threats and complaints aren't exactly uncommon for people who work in, or are connected to, the entertainment industry these days. The rise of the internet and social networking has made these kinds of behaviors all the more prevalent. It was a great one-off tip of the hat to us that ended up getting them some heat. Big deal. Since it is a show for children, the decision to change the episode to avoid further controversy was wise. I don't think it really needs to be the cause of so much hand-wringing, though. The show's writers, who have done such an excellent job so far, are probably better equipped to decide what content should or shouldn't be included in the show than we are.

And for the record, aside from the ponies adopting more anthropomorphic poses more often than I care for, Season Two, in my opinion, has been superior in almost every way to Season One. The quality of the episodes might have been a bit less consistent, but the show took bigger risks and, I think, benefited greatly as a result. The writers have done a great job of incorporating more complex material into the show without losing the show's unique charm.

They should just do whatever they have been doing up to this point, it seems to work.
