I've been thinking lately about the fandom in it's own. Earlier, I read a thread about some dude ranting about how 'bronies are cancer' and 'every picture ever has been ponified.' This got me wondering about what other fandoms do. LoK fans seem to be copypasta's and Naruto fans just stick to themselves in their own little corner of the internet, so why do we keep turning everything they make into ponies? I'm stuck between two conclusions about this. The first conclusion is that it's all 4chan's fault. When bronies first began, I'm pretty sure they originated in 4chan. During the brony rampage of 4chan, people were getting banned and booted left and right due to 'spamming pictures of ponies with no real meaning.' Many bronies stayed and fought with 4chan, but the others had to leave and collect into other fandoms. Of course, other fandoms don't have ponies, so they ponified everything and made as close to ponies as possible. Even when 4chan accepted the bronies and let them in, others stayed with their ponified subjects and we kept the tradition since the incident. Seems likely, eh? Here's my second conclusion. Furries. If you were to take a look at the furry fandom, they do pretty much exactly the same thing we do except with anthropomorphy. Other fandoms contain useful content, but they don't use animals. The likely solution? Turn them into animals! Now, you can't say bronies are totally non-furries. The show is about talking horses, we turn EVERYTHING into talking horses, that counts as being at least a little furry. Perhaps the bronies are just following in suit with what the furries do to other fandoms. Spoiler: Anthrocon Spoiler: Bronycon See the similarities? Tons of people dressing up as animals? Okay, mabye Bronycon isn't QUITE so crowded with cosplayers, but you get my drift. I dunno. I'm honestly hoping it's 4chan, but I feel like the second conclusion makes more sense... What do y'all think?
sound like your mixing up correlation and causation. It's niether and It's both The brony fandom is so massive it's hundreds of bronies ponifying for different reasons same with furry, it is quite large
The thing about this is, is the fact that every fandom ever edits picture to cater to their fandom. There are no exceptions, especially those that are given any sort of popularity on 4Chan. The only difference here is the size of the fandom. Bronies are a large majority of the internet now, and so the results are more noticeable. Homestuck, as an example, was also given popularity on 4chan and is rather popular as well, and as such there are loads of picture edits involving the characters like bronies do with ponies. Have a spoiler because I know a lot of you hate homestuck and I won't force you to view these. Spoiler: Examples Spoiler: Huge, it gets its own. As a quick reference, those took me literally 2 minutes to gather up, and I didn't even have to use google. To clarify my point, it may just be a coincidence it was involved with 4chan, but every fandom does it.
Because haters get all flankhurt over anything that has to do with ponys. "Stop liking what I don't like!" Comes to mind.
They get so much hate, because as previous users said before, they're such a large fandom. They're all over the internet. Facebook, tumblr, twitter, ect. And they ponify many things. I'm sure other fandoms do the same, but they just don't get targeted for it as much because their fandom isn't so large. Our fandom is such a large freakin fandom, which is the whole reason why they get so much hate and everything for 'ponifying' everything.
This reminds me of the money making website I go to each day. Me and this other guy are the only bronies there and we're always having fun with pony pictures. We're not trying to annoy other people, however some people do get annoyed. I just ignore them because no matter what you do, SOMEONE will be annoyed by it.
The brony fandom is a fairly broad one, with furries, otaku and the like being in it as well as their own. And it's perhaps this way we infiltrate other fandoms that annoys many people.
You can compare this meme makers. Examples: verb all the nouns, if you know what I mean, Y U NO, ragecomics, ect. Meme makers make memes for EVERYTHING so bronies making things into pony related things is really just a sub-sect of people making memes.
Why would you say that? ;_; Yes, the brony fandom is huge, and there's plenty of jerks in it. Yet unfortunately idiots are usually the ones who scream the loudest, thus sketching a wrong portrait of the entire fandom.
You didn't have to say it like that. ;-; But on topic, I dont Ponify... *starts working on pony drawings* coughcough. ._.
Ponifying things is just harmless fun. I like to see how creative and in-depth people get with it. It's usually not a serious thing, and often times it's a tribute. When someone likes ponies and something else, say an anime, they ponify the characters. It's awesome just to see what it would look like.
*High five* That sums it up nice. I don't not like ponyifiy things. Even though I technically have done it in my own work. I just don't like it, but I'm a hypocrite, so take my statement anyway you want.
