ok, now seems that special topic for this is needed.
few posts in "Danger of Proud Bronyism" got me really worried, and I even started to ask myself what have I goten myself into and should I stop being brony because of this?
now here are few posts that kinda give me the chills:

now look people what is this turning into. We are starting to sound like some kind of secret society that wants more and more followers. we are starting to be some kind of attention horses. This will ONLY get more people to hate us and cause us problems online and in real life. What war? What fight? Yes, I am aware that Sonic was beaten up for having RBD t-shirt, but I doubt that was because of RBD or ponies but due to rainbow colors which are associated with gays. Also, at least here in Croaita, and I believe in other country too, homophobia developt because gays wanted to stand out and be different, and did all the gay prides and how proud they are that they are gays, and basically they started to ram that into other people's faces and well, people started to hate them.
We (bronies) are starting to do same thing.
and even worse, we're just fans of a tv show, so we don't have to fight for some equal rights, marriage rights or something like that. I mean, what is there to fight. Wear your brony t-shirt as you would wear your favorite brand t-*squee!*, wear it because of you, not to show someone that you're here and proud brony. You like the show, and if someone asks you, you tell them that you like the show, and that every person has different flavors in what they like to watch.
please, bronies, wear your brony clothes because you like the show, as well as you would wear clothes of any other show you like, but wear it because of you, not to ram it into someone's faces.
Remember, if someone's not a brony, even so if someone hates the show, that doesn't mean that they hate you, they just maybe dislike the show and it's not something that entertains them, but that doesn't make them bad people, or someone that you have to fight against.

You bring up good points Yeti. Perhaps some of us are a bit overzealous when it comes to MLP, but that's just because we love it so much! I'm a huge fan of all of what the brony community has given us, but there is only one thing that I am absolutely passionate about. I don't try to ram it down other's throats. I'm not even "out of the closet" about it. Everyone just needs to dial it back just a bit, and everything will be fine.

I'm glad I'm not the only person who was getting a little worried about this. Sure, it is fun to get dragged away in this kind of activism. But I think it'll only cause unnecessarry seperation and perhaps even destructive behavior.
I'll copypaste my previous statement on this:

When we start closing off and act as some 'secret organisation', people will start seeing us that way.
Remember we are just here because we are likeminded people that like an awesome cartoon together. If other people have a problem with that... mkay, who cares? "Back to ponies." ~Luprony

And why would we hit the activism? It would only seem as if we're trying hard to get other people to watch the show. And this, in turn, will make us look like some kind of 'religon'.

It sure is very wrong what happened to Sonic Bluefire, and it is understandable you want to fight this injustice. But you shouldn't do this as 'someone who likes MLP:FIM', but instead as a person that wants to live in a kinder, friendlier and more tolerant world.

Remember, this show teaches values like honesty, loyalty, kindness, generosity, and most importantly, FRIENDSHIP.
We're supposed to be all about love and tolerance, not hate and violence.

THIS! I completely agree with this! MLP has done great things for all of us, but when we start using it as if it was the only thing there is, problems arise.

We just need to chill a bit....

And even though I'm sure that was no ones intent, it could still lead to that if you go too far down on the path of fanatical activism.

Read over the quotes above again...
It sounds like some people may be on that path already.

I might be particularly fanatical since I have a brony blog. It's just that I want to see this show break down the stereotypes I have hated all my life. I have also never met such awesome people in general then since I discovered the brony community. This show just tends to act as a filter for the kind of people I simply don't like and don't want anything to do with.

The main reason I have started wearing a Fluttershy T-shirt in public, is because I so badly want a real life brohoof. I want to find other fans of the show, not so much make fans. Anyway I am enjoying being an active and contributing member of this community, even if it amounts to no change in the world. I will have at least developed my own skills due to creative inspiration from this show and have made by school assignments more fun by ponifying them.

I'm just hoping for the best. But I have still gotten so much benefit from ponies already.

Also since I just did my MLP is Awesome presentation in front of my class today, I also found out that they couldn't care less what I'm into, so it hasn't effected me negatively socially either.

My Little Pony is just a show. The community is full of some of the nicest people I have ever met. But I'm not starting a military movement here. Sure I like the show, and yes, I'll be honest with people. but I'm not pouring all my time into trying to make everyone who thinks I'm weird for being part of the community feel like really bad people.

Also, 200 posts.

^This. You can show you're not ashamed to watch the show, but don't take it too far.

Personally, I don't see any problem with telling people about the show or even showing it to them, but I'm sure some go overboard with that. I'd only show it to friends I know would be interested in this sort of show. I can think of at least one from my old school. If admitting to being a brony incites a lot of hate from those around you, either 1) you're in school and said people aren't even your friends and/or B) you need better friends!

Of course, on the other hoof, the brony community is already getting some hate, mostly for really stupid reasons such as "LOL THEY MUST BE GAY COLTCUDDLERS!". It might be a bit too late.

I think, if someone outright attacks the show / it's fans, we should defend it / ourselves--not violently, but maturely--but otherwise, just be casual about being a brony! Wear t-shirts, maybe make little references to the show (i.e. using phrases such as "20% cooler") to see if there are any bronies nearby (come on, you have to admit, it'd be cool to meet a random brony in public--and like Setzertrancer said, brohoof IRL!! :omg:), but don't talk about it constantly if it's clear no-one else wants to hear about it. And if someone who doesn't like the show but isn't a JERK about not liking the show express his or her opinion, don't respond by...well, being a jerk.

On that note, I suggest if you encounter someone who is anti-brony (whether or not they've actually seen the show...and I don't mean "watched a few seconds of the first episode"), use "Well, what do you think about girls being Transformers fans?", and, since there's a good chance they don't have a problem with that, point out that's quite the Double Standard. I haven't had a chance to use this argument myself, but assuming you use it on a hater that is actually willing to hear your side of the story HAHAHAHAHAHAHA like that'd happen! it might actually work!

Unfortunately I think that is a bit too much to ask. Some people simply care too much about what other people think about them. I don't really care much what people think of me anymore. It's made me slightly happier. And then ponies made me 120% happier!

tl;dr Haters gonna' hate, but remember to not be a jerk yourself.

I sincerely apologise for the unfortunate incident that occurred last night. As I have got older, I have found it increasingly difficult to control my anger problems, and I'm afraid some feuding on TTFF may have contributed to my little slips.

I hope that this unfortunate mishap does not become the lasting impression of what was otherwise a glorious and blessed friendship.

Gawd I'm not fit to be a Brony, am I?! /.\
