Vegeta - its good to keep an open mind like that, when I was in college I started as a Pharmacy major, which is how I chose my school, then I changed to a Psychology major, and then decided I didnt want a job in Psychology so I add on Administration of Justice as well.

I graduated college just last year but I am in the process of joining the Marines so I should be heading off to boot camp pretty soon.

i really really hate to sound racist, cause i'm not. but it is hard to adapt to your surroundings sometimes. For example, I am a higher middle class White kid who uses internet lingo as well as proper english in the right situations. But with my program i'm in, as well as the building i'm staying in, im surrounded by low class black people with ghetto slang and scary violent out breaks. for example: my orientation was just a 2 day event, not even 6 hours in, someone decided to smoke pot and take cocaine. 1 day in, someone is arrested in our building for selling pot as well being in possession of multiple weapons. I bumped into a dude by accident and he threatened to slit my neck and make me bleed out while he laughs. then understanding what others are saying "yyyeahh boooi! doos dawgs are tripping all up on whackos. lets get our swag swaggin."
It is so hard to get used to that.
once again, i am not racist, so dont give me hate comments

That reminds me of the first college I went to. Not that bad, but I kept being woken up with people banging on the doors and yelling.

Me three. Random gunshots during the night, car windows were regular bashed out so they could steal GPS units and head units. One week a total of 13 cars were broken into over the course of a couple nights, in my apartment complex.

Oh, and there were tornadoes. Like straight up, funnel clouds in the sky type tornadoes.

I grew up in the south side of Chicago and I'm middle class white kid too. I had to deal with that growing up and it is bad I have always been the minority. Then last year I went to Wyoming where it is completely white. I'm glade I grew up where I did because I feel as if I have a better understanding with a completely different culture and I'm more tolerant of others. Just some tips be careful at night at all times and avoid eye contact haha.

I'm in the same little predicament as you guys. My neighborhood and town is about 70% Caucasian. Our public schools however are entirely different. All the schools (including mine) are roughly 85% African American. It's a bit weird, being the minority instead of them. I just find it odd that pretty much all the other white kids in my neighborhood don't go to the pub school, but a private one instead. Prob their parents just dont want them being around these so called devils.

those parents are evangelical Christians most likely. basically Christians who are very conservative and believe everything is evil unless the bible says its not. they also indoctrinate children with horrid ways of thinking. i have no issue with Christianity, just the idiots who use it to twist a child's mind.

also, i know what that is like. in my school, its like 70% Mexican, 28% Caucasian, and 2% African american (hence why i feel out of place at my dorm). alot of the African Americans go to another school nearby, which also happens to be the alternative school. :/ the Caucasians are over at our rival school, which is also a rich kids school. its funny, the white kids and Mexicans at my school are the best, the African Americans are pregnant. at the rich kid school, the white kids are snobs and total *squee!*s, the Mexicans barely exist, and the African Americans are amazingly nice, like help the neighborhood, and then some nice. (reason i don't use the names of the school is for privacy reasons.)

people, let's not generalize people like that.
    just listen to yourselves.
Does it really matter what skin color someone is, or what nationality someone is?
If someone is xy nationality/skin color doesn't mean he needs to do yz activity.
Every person is individual for themselves, and has personality of it's own.
Skin color or nationality is merely a trivial fact about someone.
Personally, I'm half black, half white in country where 98% of people are white, and still, I see everyone else same as me, and I feel same as everyone else.
This topic is about college/school, so if you want to say what is situation about people in your school/college, no need to segregate people by their skin or nationality.

no one is being racist! i thought i said specifically in my post that i am not racist, nor am i attempting to pass the feeling of racism, just the feeling of being out of place. we are still on topic about college, i was saying how i felt out of place in college because of my surroundings.

also, equality in every sense matters to me, i believe in equality. I believe in gay marriage, homosexuals in the military. i believe the color of your skin shouldn't matter. I labeled that last sentence with bold letters for a reason.

I don't think they're generalizing here. American communities which are predominantly black oftentimes have problems with violence, ESPECIALLY the very low-income areas. These problems get worse during recessions, too, because minorities are disproportionately affected by them.

You do realize that the ability to accurately recall and regurgitate information for exams is no measure of intelligence, right?

Everyone has hurdles to jump, some more than others. One of my best math teachers in High School was dyslexic! It took an incredible amount of dedication for him to get where he was going, but he stuck with it.
It sounds like you perhaps have some sort of problem with your ability to recall and/or integrate new information. Honestly, this isn't an unusual problem, and if you're willing to try different things, you can usually find something that will help you improve your recall.
Look, if you think formal education is more trouble than its worth, and you're comfortable with where you're at or are going in your life, then feel free to ignore the traditional path. But I want you to know that it really isn't because you aren't "smart enough."

Oddly enough, that never really occurred to be as being funny up until now. But yeah, that is kind of humorous when I come to think of it.
